SapphironZA,

It’s a TV series at this point.

YouTube screwing itself with adblockers again

I use Firefox and uBlock Origin. Not sure what kind of experience anyone else is having with YouTube, but recently my home page has been empty because I “don’t have watch history turned on”. Okay, fine. I won’t be able to browse suggested videos, and I’ll spend less time on their platform....

SapphironZA,

My YouTube homepage has been set to the subscriptions tab for 7 years now.

SapphironZA,

To clarify, I changed my bookmark to be the subscription page

SapphironZA,

The sluggishness you experienced has a lot to do with Ubuntu itself. At its base it’s a very good OS, but canonical is messing up on the details.

Ubuntu derivatives like Linux Mint or PopOS have spent a lot of time resolving this. They perform very well for most and have got excellent stability because their software stack is a little older.

For gaming, fedora is probably the base OS that most prefer at the moment. It’s at a good balance point of stability the latest tech.

The other option if you want to go more bleeding edge is Manjaro, but expect some things to break on occasion.

SapphironZA,

McNally has entered the chat

SapphironZA,

Normally this lock would be unpickabale, but with this special tool Bosnian Bill and I made…

Meanwhile McNally is lubing up.

SapphironZA,

I have seen many doors open simply by attacking the latch with a credit card or piece of wire. As one pen tester said it. Locks are an effort, but doorframes are easy.

Even when a door is well hung, I have seen guys use a car jack to stretch the frame of the door, so they can pry open the latch.

SapphironZA,

Wesley

As in “Dammit Wesley, what did you fuck up this time”

SapphironZA,

I found a lot of the same. For me I resolved this by changing a few things.

  1. Abandon KDE plasma and Gnome.
  2. Avoid Snaps like the plague.

Linux mint Cinnamon draws 5w on idle only laptop. Ubuntu stock draws 8w. Manjaro plasma uses around 7w.

SapphironZA,

I suspect that packaging has a lot to do with it. I also value power draw as a better metric for determining efficiency compared to RAM usage.

SapphironZA,

I think power draw is a better measurement for efficiency.

Making it more practical. Most people have more RAM than they need, but everyone is limited by battery capacity on laptops.

SapphironZA,

They are jealous of the Russian oligarchs like Putin. They want to be like him.

Reagan’s policies laid the foundation for the capitalist fascism we see today. Since then American politics has been taken over by corporate interests.

SapphironZA,

Ship designations are more based in function, than displacement. Frigates were traditionally designed to operate independently from fleets, where destroyers are generally escorts for fleet vessels, like transports, cruisers and carriers.

Cruisers were traditionally designed with specific missions in mind, air defence cruisers(Ticonderoga), anti-ship cruisers (Slava), etc

But cruisers are going out of fashion, with navy’s opting for more capable Frigates and Destroyers over time, which is why the displacement has been growing.

SapphironZA,

The short answer is always: “it depends” :)

SapphironZA,

No AIM-120C I see.

Their F16s are going to struggle against the Russians without Fox-3 missiles.

SapphironZA,

I think the issue is large organizations are inefficient and inflexible, be they government or corporates.

You want small lean groups with a lot of autonomy.

SapphironZA,

Yep, the US government used to break up monopolies and it greatly benefitted the boomers.

SapphironZA,

Will they also block apps that help you boycott russian or chinese companies?

SapphironZA,

True true. Almost everything is made in china in some way or form.

SapphironZA,

Normal human time scale. The projectiles have jump drives. When a object jumps it retains its momentum.

So basically they have these projectiles traveling at 30% of light, with the ability to jump into position to strike a target.

Likely an unpopular opinion, but if Hamas releases the hostages and surrenders it’s leadership, it is more likely to result in cessation of military action for some time, than if Israel stops bombing.

The current calls to stop bombing is akin to telling the US to stop bombing cities in Germany during world war two.

Israel is looking to exploit and oppress, but don’t forget that Hamas will not stop until all Jews and non Muslims are exterminated.

SapphironZA,

Exactly. We could make those charges go away, if you do me a favour.

SapphironZA,

But they certainly get fucked there.

SapphironZA,

This is some weird form of minesweeper you are playing

SapphironZA,

Agree on this. Servethehome on YouTube has a series on different 1 litre PCs they review in detail.

SapphironZA,

Most Chinese brand phones like oppo and Xiaomi still has it as standard.

I use it to control my air conditioning all the time.

SapphironZA,

My Xiaomi 13 has it.

SapphironZA,

But is it a 24 house service if it’s only staffed by a chat bot?

SapphironZA,

I am also in support of banning Viagra as a performance enhancing drug.

SapphironZA,

I am happy with it, provided they also test and prosecute partners for using Viagra.

Equality bitches

SapphironZA,

So you can get 5c and the lawyers get 95c for each dollar?

SapphironZA,

It’s probably something they already budget for. I would argue for lawyers fees being capped and the fines being 5x the value of the damage done.

SapphironZA,

Not cloud subscription enough

SapphironZA, (edited )

I wish distro’s would combine efforts much more so we have a better desktop experience. Do we really need 15 window managers when we could have 2 or 3 much better ones.

Unify to a single package manager, they are all functionally the same.

Standardize on flatpacks and abandon snaps and appimage

SapphironZA,

I get that, but in functionally they are so similar from an end user perspective, I would argue their development efforts should be combined.

SapphironZA,

The fact that the processes are so different, is part of the problem. Developers need to spend the same effort 3 or 4 times.

SapphironZA,

That’s why we called them stiffy drives. It’s the 5.25inch disks that were floppy.
