Some might, but yeah as you said the success rate was pretty darn low. Even in the show when he visits back it’s usually gone back to shit as soon as he leaves.
After seeing it on the list in this thread, I decided to read Annihilation, and I just finished it. As others said it’s weird (I like weird, so it’s one of the reasons I wanted to read it). The writing style really reminded me of H.P. Lovecraft, which is to say it’s a bit stilted. I’m glad I read it - it’s an...
Hey there, I’m looking at producing my first documentary and one of the tools people use for that is called Studio Binder. It’s an all-in-one for making your scripts, shotlists, moodboards, location scouting, storyboards, production planning, collaborators management etc etc....
Yes of course you’re right, I can recreate everything through sheets, docs and slides, but a purpose-built tool has done a lot of the legwork for you and makes sure you’re using industry-standard instead of reinventing the wheel.
I think basically what it comes down to is if I want to avoid the proprietary all-in-one I’ll have to make a pipeline with multiple tools myself, if there was a shiny and well maintained Foss alternative I’d probably have found it by now.
You’re precisely right all of these things and more are what tools like Studio Binder do. It reads from the script and creates required items like locations, actors, props etc.
A lot of that is mostly relevant for narrative works, to be honest, and since I’m planning for a documentary initially I won’t need everything. But I might also do narrative or commercial work that is fully scripted in the future so I want to set myself up for success with a pipeline that can do it all.
Just for the benefit of anyone potentially reading this, it looks like I’ll be going for Notion, there are some relevant premade templates to give me a starting point and then I’ll adapt it to my specific needs.
It’ll still need to be in combination with a scriptwriting tool like trelby or arc and storyboarder for panels but all of these can be uploaded into Notion.
For sure it won’t be as elegant or integrated but definitely more flexible/powerful, and well, you can’t beat the price tag ;)

I think it’s only in French that we associate raid with “all guns blazing” because we use the English word for cool action movies and the French one for boring news segments.
Yeah the movies are just an example but indeed also in the news they’ll use raid for when the armed police kicks the door down but perquisition for the boring ones. It’s just what the words mean at this point, I guess back in the days it was “perquisition armée” (armed).

I was gonna say it sounds like a mistake made by Dutch speakers but then I saw the user name was “home is in the hills” and there ain’t no hills in that country, well, there’s like one small one all the way in the corner.
But that’s something you can get used to, I fly FPV drones and that feeling was overwhelming in the beginning (way more intense than any VR I tried), but if you keep at it eventually you get used it.
I sometimes control a high end camera through my phone. For basic controls it connects via Bluetooth but if you want live-shooting (you see what’s being captured on the phone) it switches to WiFi. It’s ALWAYS a massive pain in the ass, takes forever to connect, disconnects if the phone screen is off even just a few seconds, etc etc.
Shows with the budget/intent to create good quality translations will have them reviewed/refined by humans before they put it back in the voice of the host, I don’t see why they couldn’t do that.
Shows without the budget or that just don’t care will use full-auto and I’m sure it will indeed suck.
I don’t smoke cigarettes anymore but when I did I was fully aware that the tips were disasters in terms of how long they take to break down and their pollution impact, which is why I’d never throw them anywhere that wasn’t an ashtray or a bin.
Now joints, I’ve felt free to when it’s just a bit of paper and organic matter that is pretty much already obliterated just by smooshing it with my shoe.
Elon lied about the monkeys — and he shouldn't be trusted to put his Neuralink chips in human brains.
"They are claiming they are going to put a safe device on the market, and that's why you should invest," Ryan Merkley at the Physicians Committee, told Wired. "And we see his lie as a way to whitewash what happened in these exploratory studies."
Really heartbreaking reading what happened to the monkeys.
People quite rightly think of Elizabeth Holmes as a fraud for making false medical claims about what the Theranos machines could do. So why aren't Elon's claims at Neuralink being held to the same level of scrutiny?
Unfortunately SUVs are very popular here also, though they tend to be a bit smaller than in the US, and I even saw a few pickups, in a country where you definitely don’t need one…
