Piracy is an issue of service, not price Gabe Newell

This is exactly why restaurants shouldn't use QR codes as menus, they're attack vectors - anyone can just come in and slap on their own QR sticker.

Hopefully HIPPA will be enough to actually force some punishment to the company.

Leaking half of the US populations' SSNs wasn't enough

Still finishing Control, as well as Kaiju Wars, which has helped scratch that Advance Wars itch while also being new

I'd imagine this article is more of statement against the S23 Ultra, than a humble brag. At this point, even if you are able to afford it, why upgrade yearly?

Phones aren't getting drastic upgrades with each physical release - most exciting upgrades are typically software based.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

Tbf, it's all about usage and charhing habits. My S22 lasts my work day, but at around ~30%, but I also only charge it to 85%.

If I didn't charge it on the drive home, it'd probably die during the day.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

Amazing how enshitification has continued to march on.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

Control is a fantastic game - definitely recommend a completion run for all the lore.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

Most people in the market for a deck can probably follow a tutorial to replace the storage

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

They're also apparently adding markdown which is neat, but considering all the recent Google news of them trying to lock down the web, I'd rather they focus on adding an RCS API so other apps can exist...

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

I wonder why - quite odd for such an old game, even with the most recent work they did on it for the "next Gen" update.

GTA 6’s Publisher Says Video Games Should Theoretically Be Priced At Dollars Per Hour (www.forbes.com)

While Take-Two is riding high on their announcement that a GTA 6 trailer is coming, its CEO has some…interesting ideas on how much video games could cost, part of a contingent of executives that believe games are underpriced, given their cost, length or some combination of the two.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

1 dollar, 1 hour, that's what I always say. /s

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

Yea this will be back with an open standard so OEMs and carriers can shop around for cheaper prices

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

There’s a setting under Message’s RCS chat to auto resend as SMS if RCS can’t send.

To be fair, this setting is reliably not working and is a known issue.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

I truly miss the way circles worked. It was very nice to not see political posts from people you were only interested to see Video Gaming posts from.

This seems more like a way to achieve what Samsung does with its messaging app

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

Not surprising given Android's history of tablet support, foldables won't be terribly different.

Need sustained support to facilitate app developers putting in the effort to update their apps for foldables.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

Agreed. Although there is a bug where the current tab won't respond to any input (such as refreshing or new url entry) and you need to close the tab... it hasn't yet been annoying enough to open a new issue though...

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

I submitted a bug report about it, but I was never able to reproduce it reliably - seemed like it was due to leaving the tab around for a long time.

If it happened that frequently, I would definitely see if you can reproduce it while recording logs so it can help them track it down!

Mozilla Senior Director of Content explained why Mozilla has taken an interest in the fediverse and Mastodon (techcrunch.com)

"the company looked at the history of social media over the past decade and didn’t like what it saw… existing companies that are only model motivated by profit and just insane user growth, and are willing to tolerate and amplify really toxic content because it looks like engagement… "

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

Not to mention you can self host and be your own admin.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

I'm not entirely sure that's true. The money goes to Mozilla and Mozilla will use it to fund Firefox (and other projects). It seems to work exactly how one would expect it to work - you just can't donate directly to a project such as Firefox.

There are limits to how much money they can move to projects due to their structure as a 501(c)3, (but all of their projects are towards an open web) so maybe not all of the funding goes to Firefox, but it still does go to Firefox.

I really miss the vibe of WC3 custom maps... all the TDs, Vampirism, sheep tag, uthers party, whatever that map was where you pick from like 30 characters and level up and fight in 2 teams...

How many of those ideas ended up as full fledged games themselves? Truly a wellspring.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

Hopefully more services support this soon - any idea of sites/apps that support this now?

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

Plus they screwed everyone over using Assistant to add things to lists.

I refuse to use Googles shopping lists out of spite for trying to force me to switch to their app (that they keep pulling the OP shenanigans on).

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

I wouldn't be surprised if they discontinue it like they have with Assistant location based reminders.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

They will also support Tile (though it will probably require new devices).

Tile is also confirmed to be working on support for Android’s Find My Device network, but there’s no sign of new hardware just yet.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

Hopefully this means lower latency.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

Interesting that it will apparently be considered Canon to the video games.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

Considering the purpose of Tensor, I'm sure it's a lot faster on phones with tensor chips.

They probably just need time to speed it up for older phones - which is just fine for them because of the business impacts.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

So nice to see this game progressing along - well worth the investment.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

Seems to readily impact 50% of the entire function of an email app (to write emails).

Seems like a weird hill for Proton to not want to climb down, considering their position within the email client marketplace. I would absolutely make UX a high priority.

Midnitte,

Will be curious to see if they ever add transient timers for commands. Google will happily turn off the lights in 5 minutes as a command. In Home Assistant I'd have to go in, create a timer helper, add the light to turn off....

The sooner Android accepts RCS is dead, the sooner we can choose the next messaging platform that matters (www.androidpolice.com)

I’m just sitting here frustrated because I’m wanting my family to move away from messaging me over SMS (they mainly use iOS), but they refuse to download any extra apps. But Google’s RCS really doesn’t look like a solution either since it mainly just seems to be a way of enforcing Android as an ecosystem, and they...

"I'm playing both sides...."

Midnitte,

This (year old) article is funnier in hindsight/context of AP's own article.

Distributed work is here to stay: It’s estimated that 48% of all knowledge workers will either be working fully remotely or in a hybrid environment by the end of 2023, and that 70% of the global workforce will work remotely or from flexible locations at least five days a month by 2025.

That is really funny for Google to acknowledge.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

Also I'm totally fine with Outlook adding this (as they have).

Some emails just need a 👍🏻, not an actual response.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

The researchers suggest that these relocating neurons are only temporary guests in the larval mushroom body, taking on necessary larval functions for a while but then returning to their ancestral tasks in the adult brain. That’s in keeping with the idea that the adult brain is the older, ancestral form within the lineage and the simpler larval brain is a derived form that came much later.

Huh, that's pretty interesting.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

Would also be carbon free to help meet their goals for carbon free infrastructure. Though I'd be curious about hoe they plan to handle waste...

Power is USB-C, but the ports aren't because most PC accessories are still USB-A

Association of Internet Researchers Moving to Mastodon (aoir.org)

In October 2022, Elon Musk completed his acquisition of Twitter. Almost a year later and we have witnessed the gutting of the content moderation department, a huge increase in hate speech, and in real terms the end to API-based researcher access to data. Twitter (or ‘X’) isn’t just unfriendly but actually unsafe for many...

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

Good hopefully more researchers follow suit - Musk's actions and support of misinformation directly contradicts every scientific ideal.

@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

As Gabe Newell believes, piracy is ultimately a service problem - when games are easier to pirate than buy them, people will pirate them.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

Well, glad I don't use their products - this just ensures I never will.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

The rest of the world doesn’t use SMS/RCS/iMessage as much as WhatsApp and the like, so the US is pretty much lagging behind everyone else on this anyway.

Not sure I want to end up with Facebook controlling my messaging...

Someday, school stuff like proctortrack will work with Firefox.... someday..
