LostXOR,

How are you using uBlock Origin on iOS?

LostXOR,

Same here, I'll definitely be trying it out.

LostXOR,

I'm in Minnesota, USA. I'm also using kbin, but it's federating with Lemmy, so I guess I'm using Lemmy?

LostXOR,

I'd be surprised if it's operational by 2037, no way they're making it in only 4 years.

LostXOR,

Stupid wifi connected air fryers these days, always spying on you.

LostXOR,

Probably for the same reason someone would run it on Windows. It has both a Windows and Linux version.

LostXOR,

More Linux than MacOS users, that's pretty cool.

LostXOR,

"them/their hills" sounds like "them there hills", which is a different (somewhat improper) way to say "those hills".

LostXOR,

I'm currently sitting in the leftmost seat of a bus, so I suppose I'll get injured pretty badly from colliding with the road at high speed, and possibly be run over by a car.

LostXOR,

What caught me most off guard was him saying that OAuth somehow grants sites access to your camera. That's a permission controlled by the browser and not at all related to OAuth.

LostXOR,

0.333... represents 0.3 repeating, which has an infinite number of 3s and is exactly equal to 1/3.

LostXOR,

Yeah I suppose it's more than a "minor problem". Still feels weird making such a small PR lol.

LostXOR,

results = [result for result in results if result != None]

LostXOR,

You're right, though IIRC there's no functional difference when comparing to None (other than speed).

LostXOR,

If you haven't used Windows in that long you might as well just get rid of it.

LostXOR,

Aren't BIOS updates usually done by putting the update file on a flash drive and installing it from the BIOS? I've never heard of updating BIOS from Windows with an executable.

LostXOR,

From the article it seems like she wants to do a normal delivery, but a C-section might be necessary if there are complications.

LostXOR,

Can you hear your laptop's fan speed up when it's overheating? Linux on my old laptop couldn't control the fan speed so it was always overheating. When I figured out how to manually set it to maximum, it overheated much less.

LostXOR,

Seems like an iron farm would be a better option, everything you need to build it should be easy to come by.

  • LostXOR,

You can even get 2TB NVME SSDs for under $100, Apple's pricing is ridiculous.

    LostXOR,

I guess this is the limit.

    LostXOR,

Huh, it says I'm leaking DNS servers and WebRTC IPs, but I don't have secure DNS enabled, and I'm not really sure why WebRTC leaking my IP is a problem considering I'm already "leaking" my IP just by visiting a website.

    LostXOR,

Oh no, Google will know I have a surround sound system!
I don't really see how that's an issue, except for very privacy focused people (who probably don't have a Google account or are already careful about stuff like that).

    LostXOR,

Yeah, I don't really care much if Google collects a bunch of data about me.

    LostXOR,

Elon's going to create 200 million accounts and sell their usernames for $50,000 each for $10 trillion profit!

    LostXOR,

The difference in air density from 0°C to 45°C is only around 20%. I can't imagine that would be enough to cause problems, assuming the drones have a decent safety margin. I think it's more likely it's a safety precaution for the electronics.

    LostXOR,

That's cool, I like the little bit of sun poking out from behind the tree.

    LostXOR,

I had stopped using Reddit but hadn't deleted my account, your comment reminded me to do that. Just deleted it. :)

    LostXOR,

A big part is exposure, you need to really crank down the exposure so the Moon isn't just an overexposed white circle. Having a phone with optical zoom is also important to get a decent resolution image.

    LostXOR,

.bashrc and .profile can be modified without root, as can autostarting .desktop files. I think systemd and anything in /etc require root though.
Also a lot of users set sudo to not require a password (I am guilty of this) which makes privilege escalation easy.

    LostXOR,

People do frequently consume videos on devices other than their phone, though. A desktop application is arguably just as important.

    LostXOR,

Titanium spoons are for casuals; true ultralight hikers use lithium spoons for maximum lightness (and a delicious spicy flavor!)

    LostXOR,

From their timeline it seems it'll be a year or two before it becomes available, but that's pretty cool nonetheless. I wonder how strong (and sensitive) of an antenna the satellites need to communicate with phones designed for much shorter range communication, and if it'll work with cloud cover.

    LostXOR,

Not if you reinvent it in a worse way.

    LostXOR,

Free refills? The xkcd phone has truly outdone itself this time.

What are some FOSS programs that you think are a far better user experience than their counterparts? (sh.itjust.works)

I used Plex for my home media for almost a year, then it stopped playing nice for reasons I gave up on diagnosing. While looking at alternatives, I found Jellyfin which is much more responsive, IMO, and the UI is much nicer as well....

    LostXOR,

Disassembly With Malice, Multithreaded Pi Visualiser, and NASA Space eXplorer 4

    LostXOR,

Or get a 12V-5V regulator and connect it up to the car battery.

I hope this is the right place to put this..I want to use pi-hole

I want to use pi-hole and it comes highly recommended to use raspberry pi to cover the house and have an always on capability. I started looking at just starter packages at Amazon and they don’t come with a monitor, which it looks like you need. How do I do this? I want a raspberry pi to run pi-hole to protect my house....

    LostXOR,

Only the Pi 4 has micro HDMI outputs. The other ones (except the zero) have regular HDMI.

Space junk in Earth orbit and on the moon will increase with future missions—but nobody's in charge of cleaning it up (phys.org)

There's a lot of trash on the moon right now—including nearly 100 bags of human waste—and with countries around the globe traveling to the moon, there's going to be a lot more, both on the lunar surface and in Earth's orbit.

    LostXOR,

Yeah, 200 tons is pretty much nothing. Humans produce billions of tons every year here on Earth.

    LostXOR,

That's an interesting way of doing it. I wonder why they chose it over Bluetooth.

    LostXOR,

I can tell you're a Linux user lol.

    LostXOR,

Encrypted data compresses much worse than non-encrypted data, so it does matter in terms of size.
