I ran a command that borked my bootloader and had to do a fresh install. Learned my lesson with modifying the bootloader without first doing thorough investigation lol....
In my first few weeks of linux I screwed up mounting a hard drive and my pc wouldn’t boot past grub. 4x different times I tried and each time I broke it. Then a year later I revisted mounting the drive and it went smoothly.
Its supposed to release early next year but if you’re on the stable channel it might be a little bit more of a wait. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but when its released and you run your system update, cinnamon will be updated.
I use Firefox and uBlock Origin. Not sure what kind of experience anyone else is having with YouTube, but recently my home page has been empty because I “don’t have watch history turned on”. Okay, fine. I won’t be able to browse suggested videos, and I’ll spend less time on their platform....
They’ve destroyed all the competition by offering a free service on the back on unlimited funding and then switching to an aggressive payment model once they have complete market dominance.
Google doesn’t care if ad block users stop watching. They want ad block users to watch ads or go away.
So I’ve been wanting to try to move to linux for the past few months but have been waiting to be done school, so I could the MS office suite behind me. I’m mostly writing this to share my experience for people who are considering switching....
I hate suggesting another distro as a solution but if your main intention is gaming then you may be interested in nobara. It’s fedora but with gaming tweaks applied.
The nobara tweaks and configuration can be done on fedora but op is unlikely to know what they are or how to do them. If I remember correctly there’s quite a few important gaming things that fedora doesn’t ship with but I don’t know what they are cause I loaded fedora then switched to nobara after a few hours.
Maybe pop os is a good choice since it’s a mix of gaming related and beginner friendly.
Ok I’ll bet small on my next spin then I’ll bet my life savings since I have an increased chance of winning(if you lose your last 50/50 you are more likely to win the next one)
I cant put my finger on it but linux does not feel as snappy as windows. I use Linux 100% now but when I am fixing something on a windows machine I notice a certain smoothness that I don’t notice on linux.
I cant abandon KDE because I like it way to much. I have a powerful computer and I feel like linux is to optimized. Sometimes I just want programs to use as much resources as they need to run perfectly.
I think once I move over to wayland I will feel that snappiness.
I think windows may win in the little animations but clarity fuck no. Windows is a mess. Opening the start menu on windows feels like a popup ad. Apple though does have good animations and ui clarity so I can’t knock them.
Depends where they got the opinion. If it’s something that most people have experienced then they probably have a pretty grounded opinion but if its something they’re only aware of because of news then there’s reason for skepticism. Ask people on the street their opinions on something related to the economy and its a mess.
I’ve had nothing but a great stable experience with it. I tried the other distros like endeavor and Garuda but they both looked ugly and had some issue after install. I think people hate manjaro because it’s bloated but I appreciated that everything I needed was already setup, configured and good to go.
I didn’t install any aur packages because those are unsupported and I don’t know enough to support them myself.

Seems Russia is slowly grinding out Ukraine and if Russia decides to give up at any point or Ukraine negotiates then russia will probably have gained territory.

I was on windows and I was forced to update and then it bricked my computer and I had to reinstall windows except when I did it asked me for a windows license key. I tried everything to recover my license key but wasn’t able to.
This was around the time linus texh tips was teasing his upcoming month on linux series so I was like fuck it I’ll give it a go. Spent a week on mint and wifi was broken then tried Endeavor, Garuda and fedora and settled on manjaro. Manjaro was amazing to me. Everything worked out of the box and kde plasma looked so clean and I could set it up exactly how I wanted.
Then I watched linus tech tips video on linux and I was like wtf how did he have such a bad experience is he dumb?
I think linux desktop is ready for open minded people who see interested in a new way of doing things. I don’t think it’s ready for people who can’t use a computer or troubleshoot. Windows breaks often so I’m not as harsh when I see linux break.

Laying on the floor in my house with all the doors locked. I like being able to fully stretch out and I can only do that on the floor. Having my door and windows locked is very comforting.
