It’s been tough switching from managing data and processes to managing people. But I make a LOT more money. It’s also nice not having to watch someone else make poor decisions all the time, but I guess now everyone else is now watching me make the poor decisions! 🤦♂️
I have heard so much about Ayn Rand that I decided to see what all the buzz was about and listened to Atlas Shrugged during my commute. That shit was the most insufferable, unrealistic, out-of-touch BS I’ve ever “read.” She really thought a lot of herself. It was a horrible exercise in self-flagellation.
“if you’re not with us, you’re against us” in this society. It’s insane. There is no room for independent thought, views, or opinions. No contrasting points of view, no critical thinking, no wavering on the established position of your side. Align your beliefs with ours or you will be admonished and labeled and cast aside as a terrible person.
What??? Are you really equating any mention of the word “white” with race? And further, calling people racist for being confused at the absolutely pointless change to a commonly used term that has been used for decades?
Holy shit we deserve the impending apocalypse/civil war/breakdown of society. We’ve earned it.
Yeah, nothing against that idea in theory, but in practice, places like that end up full of urine-soaked drug addicts that are high on meth, making it an extremely unattractive place to hang out and socialize.
Denver’s Union station downtown is a perfect example. It’s a “public private” space that tries to stay open late on weekends to cater to the crowd but ends up being a hellhole.
With the exception of your first sentence (me putting homeless people in a box, which I’m not sure if you’re making a pun or not), all of other the things you said are correct and I agree with. The things you said and the things I said are not mutually exclusive.
In other words, not all homeless are the same, not all are drug addicts, and society should do better at preventing homelessness, and you might still have a late-night library filled with urine-soaked drug addicts.
Yep, that’s what well-adjusted, mature adults do nowadays.
And before everyone chimes in joking, “well that doesn’t apply to any of us lol!” It’s doing shit like this that makes you well adjusted and mature, not the other way around.
I know this ain’t no self-help advice column and we all just want a quick laugh, but it’s nice to come across some helpful life advice once in a while.
Sounds like a very, very fast way to disincentivize anyone working any harder, smarter, or taking any more risks than anyone else.
I get there are HUGE problems with unregulated capitalism, but what you describe (equalizing everyone’s outcomes) also comes with catastrophic consequences.
There’s just not a good clean answer – it’s a fuckin rats nest and difficult to untangle. But we certainly shouldn’t stop trying. Some things have got to change.
I have a 2017 Nissan versa and it’s like a fleet trim or something. No power anything (locks or windows) no computer touch screen system, not even a chipped key! Manual transmission and gets almost 40mpg. What you want is out there, it’s just hard to find because the car manufacturers won’t make as much margin on them.
This is the good shit I come here for. Oh and the sweet, sweet call to exactly my demographic. Us old-timers can revel in our wonderful 80s TV show memories.
I was wondering, with all the different Lemmy clients and frontends, what/which out of these do people actually use? To answer this, I made a poll if anyone wants to fill it out, and I tried to put every client I could find.
Wait, how is earning revenue from having ads in your app “profiting off free user content,” but charging someone directly to use the app isn’t? They both do the same thing for the developer (generate revenue), the only difference is who is paying.
Elon Musk's financial interests put him in a position of having his own personal foreign policy, but new reporting shows that whether it's manufacturing in China or the Starlink network being used in Ukraine, Musk’s decisions can run counter to stated US policy.
