Hard to follow #lemmy posts from Mastodon. I decided to follow @nostupidquestions to try it out and each comment that someone posts shows up as a boost and only sometimes is threaded. Time to check out #kbin.

while it’s cool that mastodon, kbin and lemmy can all talk to one another, the format of mastodon just doesn’t play nice with kbin and lemmy. if it works for you, that’s cool, but i’d recommend separate accounts for microblogging and thread-style social media

i remember watching a documentary on... something, idk and a woman described herself as 'leery' around a suspicious character. i'm near certain it was a true crime doc and don't want to make fun because of that but the transformation of wary > weary > leery really is something

huh, you're right. i'd assumed it was related to the verb 'leer' meaning 'leery' would mean intimidating or perverted.

i'm an absolute cola addict and unfortunately nothing else scratches the same itch for me. i am a fan of iced tea though

Anyone else notice that short videos are making their attention span worse? (kbin.social)

I don't actually use TikTok or even the "sliding" function on youtube shorts, but I feel like my attention span has gotten much worse after they started getting popular. Even watching a 2 minute video feels dreadfully long, let alone a 10 or 20 minute video, so I end up watching a mostly short animation memes instead.

i have to be measured when i use tiktok, undisciplined use leads to me lying in bed on my phone for hours. i noticed myself swiping up on videos i was interested in watching just because the content wasn't fast paced enough for me. usually using a fidget toy while watching a regular tv show helps a lot, but it can be difficult to 'retrain' my attention span

i occassionally get leg cramps that make it so i can't move, so it's impossible to stretch out my leg to stop the cramp

personally i'm missing all the horror content. there's a nosleep replacement here that's gaining traction but stuff like /r/wtf, /r/oddlyterrifying, /r/creepywikipedia etc are sorely missed right now

pretty much exactly what it sounds like. people would browse wikipedia and post the creepiest pages they found. like, for example, the aztec death whistle.

fair enough, for mastodon i just use the stock mastodon app from the play store. for what i use it for, casual browsing and boosting posts, it works perfectly well.

I had an 8 year old account on reddit (deleted today) and had accumulated a decent amount of karma. that being said I didn't even notice there wasn't any karma here. the voting system is nice to see which comments are popular but there's no need for it sitewide.

i found and tried out kbin first but it was still very small. i saw lots of activity on lemmy.world so i joined here. at first i was very confused and trying to use mastodon to access lemmy/kbin content which, while it technically works, makes following threads really confusing. so yeah, lemmy is where i access everything from but i'm following lots of kbin magazines here too

i joined reddit in 2015 when the site was already heaving with content and users. good for killing time and consuming, but not for engaging in the community. right now lemmy/kbin is in the sweet spot where there's enough people to talk to but not so many that i can't be heard.

Why don't we use PeerTube to host the videos for Lemmy/kbin?

Would sound stupid as I don't indepth of PeerTube yet but I have heard that PeerTube is federated video sharing platform. I also heard it can't hold much a load which makes sense as HD videos takes lots of load. That begs me the question why don't we use it for small/short videos(not those vertical videos) to build communities...

i'd love that personally, i would like to be able to move my entire internet presence to more federated options and youtube is the biggest obstacle for me. i've been using it very regularly since 2007 so it would be difficult but i'd be willing to give it a go
