Their new Twitter clone, “Threads” will likely attempt to federate with Mastodon, and therefore Lemmy and kbin unless instance operators decide to defederate their service, possibly preemptively if we can.

In my opinion they absolutely should do that there’s not much good that will come out of being Federated with a Facebook/Meta product and an insane amount of bad things that will come out of it, we need to nip this in the bud just like we did with Gab (though I will admit that was for different reasons).

I disagree, a lot of people troll-downvote meaning they downvote content that they don’t like, or just downvote because it’s already low score. Same also happens with upvotes and content that shouldn’t be upvoted. If you’re concerned with other people seeing your vote history you probably shouldn’t be making those votes.

Semi public voting discourages this form of misconduct because people who want to can audit their history and see that they’re a troll.

I believe that information isn’t sent over ActivityPub protocol so while the instance admins individually could see it, it isn’t federated data.

Though if account association by IP address is a concern for you then you should probably be using Tor to connect with your accounts.

It makes it so that downvotes just won’t be accepted on that Federated server. You can still downvote the content from servers that do but it won’t count on the original servers.

Also to answer your question no they can’t downvote your content from the other servers, on instances that have downvotes disabled downvotes won’t be able to go through because they are disabled across that instance and therefore can’t be used by users of that instance.

In theory this could work on Lemmy as well but since you're on kbin I would definitely recommend utilizing kbin's activity feature which lets you view these downvotes (kbin calls them reduces) and who made them. You should check other people's posts on their profile and see if the same people have been mass downvoting for seemingly no reason. Then you can start blocking these people.

As for the idea of making down votes from the profile page not count, that doesn't really seem like a good idea considering that kbin allows posts exclusively from your profile (and Lemmy might add the same in the future) it would essentially make those posts unable to be voted essentially stifling all profile posts' growth.

Is it? I thought that it cut off communication from them entirely. I mean if that's the case then it seems a bit pointless to even block people if it doesn't go both ways and they can still interact with you, just without you seeing them.

Eh unless you're a sissy little Snowflake who can't look at things you "don't like", to that I say suck it up this is the internet and people will say things that you don't like.

In any case, I don’t want to block anyone because then I’d be unable to moderate anything they might post to my magazines.

Yeah this type of blocking isn’t really helpful since they can continue to harass you without you seeing it. It doesn’t stop or inhibit them from causing trouble, it’s just a tool to cater to snowflakes.

Any apps for the whole fediverse? (Lemmy, Kbin and Mastodon?)

Mastodon has a ton of apps and Lemmy app development is going crazy right now. Are there any apps that can use both Lemmy and Mastodon accounts (and preferably Kbin accounts too)? I know the interfaces may need to be different, but the protocols are the same as far as I understand it, so it seems technically possible.

It’s still in Alpha, you can still try it out but I warn you it’s very very buggy at the moment. It does have a lot of potential though, hopefully it’ll get better as time goes on.

I wasn’t able to view Lemmy content (actually any content) on the build I downloaded. How did you view them on yours?

Draconic_NEO,

It’s a fork that aims to add support to Infinity for a bunch of other platforms, among those kbin and lemmy. It’ll also let you use Reddit but that’ll be much more limited than before since you need to provide your own API keys and you won’t be able to access NSFW.

Ah I see thank you for telling me. I just tried it and it seems to work, though it is a bit finicky (gives random 502 errors) but that’s to be expected from alpha software. Hopefully this will get better in the future.

In the future they eventually might be, for some instances. Though definitely not for all of them, since some of the instances might disable indexing.

I've actually already seen a few Lemmy results (lemmy.ml) in Google searches, the trouble is it doesn't link to individual posts, just the community so it's not particularly useful. So it definitely is possible, just needs to be improved to be able to index posts.

It’ll definitely be better than Reddit. Reddit has honestly gotten pretty terrible in the last few years. Fediverse may have its flaws but it’s still better than what Reddit has become (and ultimately what Reddit’s for-profit wannabes will become).

There’s an extension that allows you to hide incognito mode from websites called Hide Private Mode I’m not sure why browsers don’t do this by default (maybe it’s some funny compliance thing) it would greatly improve privacy.
