I used web.archive.org to browse the Reddit communities during the blackout, I still actually use it in most cases because it helps both with subreddits that are still private, but also ones where people have deleted their threads.

It might not work with every single one, but it should work with the ones that appear in Google.

Yeah Canonical really shot themselves in the foot when they started forcing snaps upon people, especially considering just how broken and buggy those snaps are. The snap version of VLC refused to play files on an external hard drive when I tried it and there was no fix for that either.

Note: On the flatpak version you can change the permissions with Flatseal allowing it to work on external storage.

Debian is good for stability such as for a server or other machine that’ll be on 24/7, though for general purpose use I would prefer to use Debian-Testing since it gets updated packages quicker, about the same time as Ubuntu or Mint since those are based on Debian-testing.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

I wouldn’t really recommend Ubuntu because it forces something as buggy and broken as snap on to users, as in they modified apt to install the snap version of a package instead of the package version of the package.

Not to mention the fact that it tends to break things after upgrades like what one gentleman said in regards to removing the NVIDIA drivers.

I feel like archinstall is more of a compromise than a solution for new users. Something that’s more user friendly would be one with a Gui installer like the old Archlinux GUI (that the arch team tried to get rid of), preferably though a netinstall so it’ll get the latest version (Arch is a rolling distro after all) and won’t end up going out of date quickly like the Archlinux GUI Isos did.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Ah I see. I was told that Ubuntu uses the same versions as Debian-testing but that makes more sense.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Linux Mint, Pop!_OS, or Debian/Debian-testing.

These are the ones that have worked best for me in my experience.

Is that before or after Steam Deck users? Would it be higher than 1.96 if we included steam deck in the count?

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

More specifically I would recommend adnauseam since it’s extra punishing to aggressive advertisers by clicking the ads automatically.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Not your brain but rather a tiny little chip inside your brain, still would be a rather difficult task (that’s an understatement) to unbrick or replace it though. Unless they put a debug Port accessible from the outside you would need surgery if you needed to JTAG to unbrick it (probably would need it anyway since if they go this route they probably won’t let you access the pins you need to from the outside).

Another idea is that somebody found an exploit in the software and figured out how to use it for much more then interfacing with vending machines. So in essence the Borg is one giant botnet accept instead of ddosing or doing database leaching they assimilate people and make them part of the botnet.

Mostly “Mastodon is too hard” is an excuse people make because they just don’t like it and/or dislike the Fediverse in general and don’t want people to move there.

I ‘interrogated’ a bunch of people complaining about Mastodon and it was pretty obvious that a lot of them either didn’t like the idea of Twitter replacements and/or were Elon Musk fanboys.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Can you please cite a specific example from a specific community? I’m not trying to say that you’re lying I’m just interested in learning more about this.

It’s either the LPC header or it’s soldered onto the board directly. LPC header doesn’t have any other *official uses so it’s not sacrificing functionality. Though I can understand why somebody wouldn’t want to have a TPM module on their board. It’s pretty easy to bypass that requirement in Windows (over and over) though.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Technically it’s an artificial requirement, it’ll run just fine without secure boot and TPM, you’ll just need to do some work around to install it that way.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

It’s insecure (in more ways than one) to be running Windows in general. If you value security to a high degree you probably shouldn’t be using Windows.

Where does Element/Matrix fit in here? It doesn’t really seem like Paranoid like XMPP since people have been using it pretty regularly now, not just paranoid people.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

How do you know those cables don’t have the retaining clips removed to make them easier to pull out? If that’s the case all you need to do is pull them.

Never had Twitter (I know blasphemy) but I recently joined Mastodon and it’s seems pretty cool, I’m not really into the whole Twitter style thing though, I’m more of a Forum person myself than a Twitter person.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

People have been asking me to join twitter for a while, back when twitter was a big thing. Most people back then did have twitter and did sign up and at least tweeted something before. People always thought it was strange that I’m not on there, I just didn’t really want to be there because it seemed really toxic there from what I’ve seen people say online and the screenshots that have been re-posted.

I would definitely recommend Mastodon though, it seems really cool from being there, not like the twitter I’ve heard about at all.

A lot of people don’t realize this but signal Jammers are illegal. There was actually a professor who was put on administrative leave for using one, he was lucky that he didn’t have to pay fines or that he wasn’t sent to jail for it.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Aww he’s so cute and fluffy.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Aww they’re so cute, I wonder what they’re doing with that sword anyway?

Draconic_NEO,

Wow this is really awesome. You did a great job.

I sure hope that’s not a non-stick pan, otherwise there will probably be Teflon in that food and the pan will be ruined for good as a non-stick.

Also might not be the best idea to do that indoors without ventilation due to carbon monoxide and smoke. Actually it’s probably best to just do it outside in a cast iron pan that doesn’t have any toxic coating on it.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

I didn’t even think of that part 😬

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

I’m not really sure either, I think it’s either trying to say that furries and/or femboys are neo-nazis or that most neo-nazis are closeted femboys and/or furries.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

This looks so awesome, almost like it’s from a real Anime. Great work.

An old Asus Chromebox CN60, I bought it because it was dirt cheap, as should probably be expected EOL ChromeOS device.

It seems like something that would be completely and utterly useless but once I put Linux on it I was able to use it as a handy little Server. I guess I didn’t really think that it was stupid, but other people thought that it was stupid that I bought it.

Draconic_NEO,

It was a pretty cool platform but their biggest problem was making it invite only, therefore forcing it to be smaller than competing platforms. Invite only may work for Gmail but not for social media.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Depends on how dense or spread out it is. If it’s dense and everything is in one place you might not need anything more than just going outside.

If it is spread out though you may want communication methods other than mail and if people already have the computers and existing infrastructure (many places have cables for network and phone lines) to set up a local network then that might be the best option.

They’re also super comfy so it’s a win-win.

Draconic_NEO,

There’s a third example missing from here because there are also quite a few hacker furries.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Can’t forget about those old soviet flats, tough they’re probably more like the Hollywood version than not on the count of maybe having issues with the lights/power.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

I hope so too, there’s many subs I hope could migrate to lemmy in the future.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Don’t they automatically reboot when that happens nowadays though?

r/dndmemes mod u/Dalimey100 is a fucking legend (slrpnk.net)

u/Dalimey (who appropriately identifies as “LAWFUL STUPID” shared a warning from reddit admins issuing their final warning against making the sub NSFW (despite the fact that the users of the sub are in full support). They promised to reply to it with “roll for persuasion or intimidation” if they got 10k upvotes, and here...

Technically they have the ability to do anything there, whether they have dedicated tools to make it easy or worth while is likely a different story. Also heavily depends on functionality of the site.

The color kind of reminds me of Pepto-Bismol though I’m sure it doesn’t taste like Pepto-Bismol.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Indeed it is, whenever I take it the taste makes me want to vomit. It usually makes me feel better afterwards so in a way it’s worth it (I only take it in the instance where I have a very bad stomach ace).

Has anyone else been trying to break their reddit-era habit of downvoting?

I used to downvote fairly often on Reddit as a sign to disagree or to push down really disgusting bigoted comments. And to be honest, it became a habit to just downvote without replying. However, now that I’m on lemmy and not Reddit I’ve been actively trying to not instantly downvote things and instead move on or take the...

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah it wasn’t made for disagreement, it was meant for a crowd control form of moderation. That’s why they had the karma index and allow for subreddits to impose karma restrictions. (I guess there could be an argument about it being a form of social credit system if it were, which let’s be honest it became that anyway, whether or not it was intended to be that way from the beginning)

Trying to recreate traditional animation cels look w/ digital (art by me) (i.redd.it)

Spent a while earlier trying to see how close I could get to making something look like a traditional animation cel, so I picked an old illustration of mine to redraw. General idea is to see if I could make something fit within a modern digital animation workflow. I ended up using a program called Rebelle since it has a very...

Wow you did an amazing job, absolutely nailed the style. It looks just like it came from an old animated movie or TV show.

Nah that one seems more like a femboy, since they’re using he/him pronouns.

Draconic_NEO,

Nice. They look really good on you.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Maybe it might be a good idea for people to reach out to the admins of lemmy.world and other instances about this issue. The sooner we know the better. Might be worth making a post on the main Communities of instances such as !lemmyworld and !main as well as a few others about these issues.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Should Note that if a game isn’t on that list, that doesn’t necessarily mean it isn’t DRM free. For example “Rain world” is not on that list and it is not required to launch it through Steam. So this list is by no means exhaustive.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Defederating is a pretty good solution, it stops them from being able to directly communicate with your servers, preventing them and their users from posting on the instances that they have been defederated from. One example of a server that will be doing this is pawb.social I’m sure others will follow as well.

I’m not sure if it would be necessary but you could also go the extra mile and block their IP range at the firewall level on your Lemmy server. That’s mainly something that you would do for spammers, but since Facebook/Meta do have a bad track record it couldn’t hurt.

What do you mean? The customers are the testers, they just don’t know it yet.
