Going through a Fine Arts program we had to constantly do critiques of our work–with our peers (practically kids) saying whatever they wanted to about what we spent the past weeks or month working on. Some were nice, others were not, but the process helped us think critically about what was being said while becoming largely immune to how it was presented.
This has helped in other ways including being in leadership roles where you have to listen to negative feedback from team members that often have good points but share them with a bad attitude.
I’m just enjoying the ride. Not concerned about wasting time or achievement. Kudos to those who strive to make a difference. I’m just happy to be here!

If I wanted to use Facebook and subject myself to the community that includes, I’d use that. I prefer a less hostile/more thoughtful place, which Lemmy.world is to me. If Threads becomes accessible to Lemmy.world and brings that community within this sphere, I will very likely move on.

What need is there to Federate with Meta? They’re a corporation where growth matters. Lemmy and Mastodon are private, networked instances where funding can and often does come from donations. Provided instance operators can subsist off those donations, the need to grow for the sake of growth/profit is a non-issue.
