AzuleBlade,

Those are the best, you feel more tired when you wake up.

AzuleBlade,

A mini PC is the way to go if you want to self host a media server such as Jellyfin. You have to do a little research, but you can find mini PCs with Intel chips that have Quick Sync for transcoding for around $100 on Amazon.

AzuleBlade,

Yeah, like that home movie your mom and I made, won’t find that on any streaming site.

AzuleBlade,

Fun fact: Richard Hatch portrayed Apollo in the OG BSG, and was also in the reboot as Tom Zarek.

AzuleBlade,

Holy shit, I laughed but felt guilty after.

AzuleBlade,

Their spyware probably doesn’t work on Linux.

AzuleBlade,

It’s pretty great, there’s also Cornell’s companion citizen science app called eBird that you can use to count birds around you which is useful to ornithologists to track bird population density and migration patterns!

AzuleBlade,

I got into birding this spring as a hobby, thinking to myself “it’s free, you just need to use your eyes and ears”, withing a month I bought a $350 pair of binoculars. I’ve managed to fight off the temptation of a decent camera so far, thankfully. I found a great park at the tail end of spring migration about 10 minutes from my apartment, and the dawn chorus was almost sensory overload, the was so many different species singing and calling. I’m looking forward to what new birds I’ll see during this fall migration and especially next spring migration.

AzuleBlade,

Did you ever use Launch (predecessor to Yahoo Music) in the early 2000’s? It was pretty decent.

AzuleBlade,

I went ahead and switched to the SAVE plan. You can actually go through the application process and near the end of it, they’ll provide you a list of plan options and how much you’ll have to pay, if any. If you would have to start paying, you can quit the application and no changes will be made to your current plan / certification and at least you won’t get “sticker shock” down the road and can start planning.

AzuleBlade,

Fun fact, it’s legal to purchase spores and grow kits in the US, since they don’t contain any psilocybin.

AzuleBlade,

I waited months for Google to release a firmware patch to unlock Bluetooth. Eventually, I got tired of 4 mostly bricked (could still use them wired) controllers laying around and tossed 3 of them. I wish I would have kept them all now, Stadia controllers are some of the best, I may have to pick up another one online.

AzuleBlade,

You rockin’ Hannah Montana Linux?

AzuleBlade,

My freshman year of high school, my AP English teacher made sure to point out all the sexual stuff in Shakespeare, much to our chagrin.

AzuleBlade,

Search up “musubi mold” on Amazon, they’re great if you’re making a bunch of them.

AzuleBlade,

This recipe is pretty good, but you don’t have to get that fancy. I usually just fry the spam up in a pan until it’s crispy, put a slice between two layers of rice, and wrap it up in the nori (seaweed). It also tastes really good if you dip it in Bachan’s Japanese BBQ Sauce, they sell a big bottle at my Costco.

AzuleBlade,

Was gonna say, wayyy ahead of you OP. I just paid one off, I should probably max it out again just in case.

AzuleBlade,

You could smell her house a block away.

AzuleBlade,

My dumb brain read “brand names” (I guess that still makes sense, since a band’s name is their brand) and I was thoroughly confused.

My favorite Mastodon and Lemmy clients:

I was looking for a place to share my two favorite Mastodon and Lemmy clients, they are called Voyager Connect Boost for Lemmy and Moshidon for Mastodon (if you are really serious about privacy I recommend Connect still) (the official Mastodon app works fine though, you just can’t follow new hashtags from it)...

AzuleBlade,

Have you tried out Firefish? It’s another micro-blogging site like Mastodon, but the UI looks better in my opinion. You can follow Mastodon users on there and a bunch of other Fediverse content as well. They’re still working on an official app, but the PWA works quite nicely.

AzuleBlade,

This is the correct answer.

AzuleBlade,

This should be a prime reason to exercise.

AzuleBlade,

Gotta build up the stamina for longer sexercise sessions.

AzuleBlade,

I finally watched Wolf of Wallstreet last week, fucking wild.

AzuleBlade,

It’s actually available now on AppleTV+ or whatever it’s called!

AzuleBlade,

I’m hoping suicide booths are a thing by the time I retire, something like in Futurama. I’ll just blow all my savings on a yearlong worldwide cruise or something and then call it a life. The other option is moving to a 2nd world country with universal healthcare to make it stretch, the first option sounds more fun though to be honest.

AzuleBlade,

Sorry about your MIL, genuinely kind people are few and far between in this world.

AzuleBlade,

My understanding is you can’t host your own instance on an Android device, you’d need a server. You could stand up a server on Oracle Cloud, their Always Free tier is pretty generous.

AzuleBlade,

Performance on lemm.ee is pretty solid, world was my original instance but it’s just my backup now. Hopefully whatever vulnerabilities that are being used to DDoS them can be patched soon.

AzuleBlade,

I switched to lemm.ee, it’s much more stable since it’s not constantly being attacked by script kiddies. I have a theory a user got banned, and is making it their personal mission to ruin .world’s performance. Please donate to your home instance owner(s) if they have that set up. Even if it’s just a little, it can make everyone’s experience better.

AzuleBlade,

Yeah, I like the Firefish interface a lot more. I was able to follow the handful of people I followed on Mastodon seamlessly. Everything just looks better IMO.

With all this talk about sync's pricing...

I think now is a great time to remind everyone, like sync’s developer, Lemmy’s developers need to be paid too! The amount of time all the devs put into making lemmy exist, in my opinion, should be worth some of your money. If you can afford it, donating to the people who develop lemmy and/or the people keeping your home...

AzuleBlade,

I installed Sync, threw $16 LJ’s way for putting in the work to convert it to work with Lemmy, and then uninstalled lol (commenting from Thunder). I plan on continuing to use FOSS clients for Fediverse stuff, but am happy there’s a healthy variety of open and closed source clients for everyone to pick and choose from.

AzuleBlade,

To add to this, it can even be as simple as reporting bugs you find, whether that be with the Lemmy code itself or a client you’re using.

AzuleBlade,

I’ll literally at Dairy Queen eating ice cream right now, while my gym across the street is looking on disappointed. I should really work out.

AzuleBlade,

I got a 4 CPU / 24Gb RAM Ubuntu 22.04 ARM VPS running on Oracle’s “always free” tier. The Synapse and Postgres containers are using about 2% CPU and 1.2Gb of RAM combined. If your strapped for resources, check them out.
