I think not wanting something you created to be used to kill people is fine.

Edit: Jesus Christ, I did not think the idea that a corporation would want to stay out of a national conflict would be such a controversial idea!

If I had invented something that I had designed to improve and benefit the world and I found out that it was being used for the purpose of killing, I’d be absolutely horrified, regardless of my allegiance to any side.

Downvotes away I guess!

13esq,

I think allowing an offensive username and actually killing people with something you helped create are different things.

13esq,

It’s not apartheid, it’s simply segregation and discrimination based upon race!

Job suspiciously missing… wonder why

I Tried Reddit Again and it Sucks Now

I installed the official Reddit app and went on it to see what the old place was looking like now. My inbox was filled with spam. The “home feed” shows subs I never subscribed to. There are so many ads. Between the ads and the the extra subs in the feed, it’s hard to just scroll. I also noted a lot of spam in some of the...

13esq,

A lot of people here still using Reddit. Such a shame.

The world would be a better place if people were willing to put their money where their mouth is. You’re no better than the people that hate Elon Musk but refuse to leave X.

13esq,

Right.

I know that in cases like these, our emotions get riled and the lines between justice and revenge become blurred.

Trust me, you want to live in a just society, not a vengeful one. Don’t let your heart rule your head!

America is a country where people don’t want to put their shopping carts back in the return because “there’s people paid for that!” Yet when Aldi introduced the 25¢ return mechanism, suddenly they’re OK with the idea of returning the cart. That’s the price of American laziness and selfishness, 25¢.

It’s absolutely shameful behaviour that results from an extremely selfish and narrow viewed mindset, akin to that of a young child that has a vague understanding of the consequences of their actions but simply doesn’t care about them because they know someone else is going to make up for their bad attitude.

13esq,

American: shits all over the toilet floor despite a toilet being right there “that’s disgusting, they need to hire more toilet cleaners!!” Probably leaves without washing their hands because there’s no designated staff for hand cleaning and heads off to McDonald’s to go buy more burgers.

Absolutely shameful attitude.

13esq,

In Britain, if you take something off the shelf and then decide you don’t want it, you put it back rather than just dropping it on the floor.

Despite their being no punishment for being a dirty, lazy bastard. Nor a reward for being tidy and considerate for the people that come after you, it’s basic self governance that makes things nicer for everyone.

13esq, (edited )

That’s absolutely not what I’m saying.

I’m saying that if we all clean up after ourselves, this situation never happens, it’s nicer for everyone and there is simply no need to clear up after someone else.

13esq,

It was a meme that started not long after the Reddit migration.

Very very boring imho but some people clearly loved it.

13esq,

Self referencing meme accounts were something I hoped we’d be leaving behind on Reddit.

13esq,

I feel like you have a point to make, but that the way you’ve written it has failed to clearly convey that point.

13esq,

Funny thing is that caffeine is a dependancy drug. Those espressos aren’t perking you up, they’re just bringing you back to normal.

I found caffeine surprisingly easy to give up and unlike nicotine, I don’t miss it at all.

13esq,

The poor kids at my school got to play games all day, I was almost jealous!

13esq,

When I see communities that I have no interest in, I block them.

No one cares what you or I think in particular.

13esq,

You know you have the option to not read subs you don’t like, right?

I’ve worked with food for long shifts before.

Your hands sweat. If you wear waterproof gloves for just a few minutes, they start to fill with sweat! This is fine for a few minutes but after a few hours your skin will be horrible, after a few days it will be horrific with your hands red raw and large chunks of your skin rubbing off easily.

Think about what your hand looks like after ten minutes in the bath, now imagine they are in a bath filled with your own sweat for 8 hours a day five days a week for month after month.

For anyone who has had to wear “hygienic” gloves for prolonged periods, it is obvious why you would not want your food preppers wearing them all day, unless you want your sandwich made by sickly sweaty hands that are constantly shedding skin and sweat at the wrists.

The people in this thread who don’t want their sandwich touched by a dirty poor person that is too unreliable to wash their own hands need to take a good look at themselves. Realise that maybe you don’t know what you’re talking about, have a little faith in your fellow man and get out of your arse!

13esq,

They’re making sandwiches, not scrubbing in for surgery.

Do you fully scrub your hands every time you prepare food? Every time you open a packet of crisps, every time you eat a cookie? Or is just food that’s been touched by stupid poor people that you don’t want to eat?

You sound like you need to get over yourself.

13esq,

Be patient.

Lemmy is still establishing itself as the goto replacement for Reddit. New communities are popping up all the time and more users will come.

13esq,

Go with Christ, brah.

13esq,

All theft is wrong, but it is much less sad when someone steals a diamond from Jeff Bezos than it is when someone steals a loaf of bread from someone who is starving.

13esq,

It’s an interesting question worth asking.

Can we not assume people are triggered when they’re just asking honest questions?

13esq,

I see it as a “try before you buy”.

As a consumer, I have a right to know what I am buying. I shouldn’t have to pay to see a movie, watch it and then find out that I didn’t like it.

If I pirate music or TV/film and really like it, I will absolutely then pay for the album or the DVD and I have the CD/DVD collection to prove it.

As some other people have mentioned, there is the awkward situation where a DVD may not be available in your region or a CD is out of print etc. There is some music and TV that I’d love to own my own legal copy of, but it’s logistically impossible and it’s unfortunate that the only way to consume that media isn’t legal.

13esq,

I agree with what you’re saying, it could be argued that it’s wrong that the starving guy needs to steal in the first place, but that’s probably semantics.

13esq,

I like to shower after I poop, but the timing doesn’t always line up appropriately, especially if you happen to be a bit ill like OP.

And even when the stars align, I still want to use toilet paper first to get the worst of it off.

13esq,

New releases used to be £40 when I was a kid (twenty years ago), given inflation, £70 sounds not too bad.

13esq,

If they’re selling 20 million more units than they used to, then $70 clearly is not too much and outs this post as nothing more than a moan.

13esq,

If it’s anything like the industry that I work in, the CEO would have been informed of the short comings of the design numerous times and given a response along the lines of “does it make our CPUs faster and more powerful though?”.

The CEO won’t be pissed of at his chip designer, they’ll be pissed because they’ve been caught out.

13esq,

I think they’d take off in a Strange Planet sub, the SciFi sub is probably a little to broad for a niche comic/TV show discussion thread.

13esq,

That’s false equivalence.

China killing protesters and silencing dissidents does not make it OK for Google or anyone else to spy on you.

13esq,

This thread is about an app that spies on you, it is absolutely relevant to want to talk about other apps that do the same thing.

The “yH bUt ChInA iS EvIl” rhetoric is an irrelevant distraction from the topic at hand.

13esq,

I’m not saying that America/Google is just as bad. I’m saying that in a thread discussing apps that spy on you, that talking about non-Chinese apps that also hoard your data is absolutely relevant and shouldn’t be trumped or silenced by a “yh, but China is evil tho” type comment.

13esq,

Context?

13esq,

I get where you’re coming from, but rather than the “earth trying to kill us”, we are causing the earth to kill us through our own selfishness, willful ignorance and greed.

13esq,

Thanks

For me, if it’s in the house it’s getting drunk. I was lucky that my drinking wasn’t so bad that I could go cold turkey.

Weaning myself off doesn’t work for me, if I have one I’ll just keep going.

Now I only drink on the weekends which is a massive improvement for me.

13esq,

I thought we were boycotting Reddit.

Every visit gives them value, even if you don’t submit any content or post any comments.

If you must use Reddit, stick to the NSFW subs as they don’t profit from them and turn Reddit in to an unmarketable porn site.

YSK: Browsing "ALL" at work might get you pulled into an office, even with NSFW off.

Why YSK: It appears several Lemmy Instances are flagged as suspicious and at least 1 instance intentionally using the name of ransomware. A couple of the big enterprise monitoring suites (Fortiguard, ZScaler) will flag your account and may end up with you being pulled into an office for an explanation, or worse....

13esq,

Exactly. Use the work equipment for work purposes and there is no issue.

13esq,

Tell me how else I’m supposed to afford food and a place to live!

13esq,

A lot of people argue that lethal force should be used in a matter of life or death only.

Once they are running away with their backs turned, it’s arguable that there is no immediate threat to life and that lethal force is no longer required.

I know that at times like these it’s very easy to let the heart rule the mind and to view justice as equal to revenge.

13esq,

He’s no doubt been dreaming of the day he gets to use lethal force, the fact they were running away with their backs turned is just a technicality. Probably gave him his first hard on for thirty years.

My dog and I got jumped by raccoons this morning. Now I have to pay at least $1500 to make sure I don't get rabies

My dog is fine, though, which is the most important thing to me. The raccoons scratched my arm kinda bad and my legs are covered in scratches. My doctor can’t be sure if the raccoons had saliva on their claws, and wants me to get rabies shots just in case. She sent me to an ER because she can’t get the shots in our area....

13esq,

$1500 or get rabies. Home of the free indeed lmao

13esq,

If you had read the article, you’d have known that they’re “no longer employed”.
