Following the example of the German government and the European Commission, the government of the Netherlands is now running their own Mastodon server! No middlemen between them and their constituents! Welcome @minbzk!
About a week. I called it. Now my timeline on threads is sorted in a weird algorithmic way where the "top" posts showing are all from hours ago. Not even the replies are current. This sucks.
"In the 17th century, a certain amount of what was printed contributed to what ultimately became a Scientific Revolution.
But a great deal more was devoted to alchemy, astrology, witch-finding and obscure arguments about the difference between transubstantiation and consubstantiation — in short, to superstition."
watched a doc about #cambridgeanalytica … psychographic analysis is the reason why I got into marketing in the first place but once you uncover how rotten it is and what the big consequences are it’s just absurd to look at. the intersections of #politics , #marketing and #socialmedia with their implications need to be taught in schools, there must be data/media literacy courses taught to young people.
Threads already has more than 30 million users, but that doesn’t mean it’s sure to displace Twitter.
We shouldn’t forget Meta is a terrible company with a long history of spreading right-wing propaganda. Plus, if Threads succeeds, it will be filled with targeted ads just like Facebook and Instagram are now. We can do better.
I think it’s impossible to ignore the way the COVID labor market and increasing interest rates have brought out all of the latent authoritarianism in the highest circles of Silicon Valley
Elon and Twitter, the spring tech layoffs, Huffman and Reddit…
Elon Musk just gave you a huge raspberry and middle finger regarding how many tweets you can view on Twitter.
Even my Ukrainian friends are searching for a replacement.
"Now that Twitter doesn't allow to see many tweets, I've started re-reading The Road to Unfreedom by @TimothyDSnyder."
MIGHT I SUGGEST YOU RECOMMEND MASTODON TO YOUR FRIENDS?
Unlimited access to posts AND it's in English too!
I'm thinking of leaving the #FediVerse and indeed all #SocialMedia as I really do not want to be involved with #Meta#Facebook#Instagram in anyway whatsoever, and I do not want anything I post to be available on their servers or services.
I don't think it's possible to have something nice or positive in an arena dominated by evil corporate entities and interests.
So, when Meta arrives, I will be leaving.
I have already left #Twitter and #Reddit and was never a member of any Meta product
Social media platforms depend on CONSTANT churn, ratcheting the producers actually making the content.
We've seen a BUNCH of smaller creators walk away over the last couple years. Podcasts are struggling to monetize. And even larger (and more profitable) channels are now talking more about the burn out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sn10AWGF6OU
Seeing the trends at play from executives at companies like Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, and Reddit, we can be confident that this creator burnout trend will likely continue.
This will also probably contribute to the problem of churning content, as the platforms increasingly turn to disposable short form videos and algorithmically manipulating the feeds of viewers.
Your favorite creators and podcasters need your help and support.
