The fallout is growing from Tesla’s continued refusal to sign a collective agreement with its Swedish mechanics.

On top of the solidarity strikes, one of Denmark’s largest pension funds is selling its $58 million stake in Tesla for refusing to respect the Nordic labor model.

Yesterday Elon Musk told advertisers to go fuck themselves and threatened to send his mob after them if they pull their ads from Twitter/X.

Over the years, he built a reality where he was a genius who could never be wrong. But as his fantasy collides with the real world, Musk is melting down — and has the power to make us all feel the pain as he crashes back to Earth.

Apartheid Clyde wanted to feel some childhood nostalgia so he made a trip to Israel to pal around with Zionists for a day.

Last year he turned off Starlink access for Ukraine in key areas after speaking to Russian officials. Now he’s letting Israel’s far-right government decide whether human rights and medical groups in Gaza should have access to it.

When we warn the real threat of AI is how it’s used against people in the present, not the fantasies that some day computers might think for themselves, this is exactly the kind of thing we’re talking about: health insurers using AI to deny care.

The Luddites weren’t backward technophobes. They saw factory owners using tech to degrade their livelihoods and they fought back — first by trying to negotiate, then writing to Parliament, and finally smashing the machines.

As workers today organize and strike over bosses using digital tech to upend their industries, there’s a lot we can learn from the Luddites’ story. I was thrilled to dig into it with @brianmerchant!

Elon Musk’s grandfather “believed that apartheid South Africa was destined to lead ‘White Christian Civilization’ in its fight against the ‘International Conspiracy’ of Jewish bankers and the ‘hordes of Coloured people’ they controlled.”

Damn, why didn’t Ashlee Vance or Walter Isaacson mention that part?

Apple doesn’t have groundbreaking features to entice people to buy their new products. Instead, it wants to convince you that if you buy an iPhone or Apple Watch, it could literally save your life and will mitigate your environmental footprint while it’s at it.

But those are pretty dubious claims that rely on carbon offsets and dismiss all the harm and suffering that’s been chronicled in Apple’s supply chain. Don’t buy the PR!

The United States and China are increasingly positioning one another as geopolitical foes, and that’s leading to reductive nationalist narratives that distract from tech’s real harms.

On , I spoke to @yangyang_cheng about the need to look at the United States and China more objectively if we want to truly understand the threats posed to us by technologies emanating from both countries.

For years, the media built up Elon Musk and got the public to buy into the myth of his genius. Now the truth of who he is can’t be hidden and changing how they cover Musk isn’t enough.

The media failed us. They not only need to inform the public about the harms of Musk’s empire, but change how they cover the entire tech industry so another grifter can’t replicate his rise. They owe us nothing less.

Elon Musk says a left-wing political party in South Africa is promoting white genocide for singing apartheid-era song “Kill the Boer.” He’s echoing a far-right conspiracy.

“That Musk weighed in … through the hysteria of [far-right provocateur Benny] Johnson, who erroneously, though tellingly, labeled Malema’s EFF as ‘South Africa’s Black party’, is revealing. The specter of ‘white genocide’ is a long-standing trope among US white nationalists.”

lmao, the US military keeps accidentally sending highly sensitive information to email addresses in Mali because they write .ml instead of .mil. The Dutch company managing Mali’s domain has collected 117,000 emails this year alone.

Control of Mali’s domain is about to revert to the Mali government, at which point it can collect all those emails. It’s a close ally of Russia, and could theoretically pass on information.

Marc Andreessen wants you to believe AI will save the world. But just a couple years ago, he was saying something very similar about crypto.

The truth is Andreessen doesn’t actually care about improving people’s lives. His positive vision of a world made better by AI tools is just a means to pump up the valuations of companies his venture capital firm has invested in. We can do much better than Andreessen’s lies.
