Another post about this cool book I'm currently reading: "The Sol Majestic" by Ferrett Steinmetz. Gotta love that name.

Have you ever wondered how a top-rated restaurant might function on a space station? Light years from any planet? Well, Ferrett Steinmetz thought about it and came up with:
-artificial gravity used to cook things using the heat generated by enormous planetary-scale pressures instead of direct heat
-stasis fields instead of fridges (duh) but also speeded-up time field used to sneak a week's worth of work into an hour
-an alien sourdough culture that MIGHT be sentient

All of this is an excellent backdrop for a story of a young boy finding (gay) love, seeking independence from his parents, and exploring questions of philosophy, truth, capitalism, and marketing. It's not , but it has that homey vibe.

Btw, you can follow me on bookwyrm, I'm @SallyStrange and I read a lot.

THE PERIPHERAL (William Gibson, 2014; Spanish edition 2017).

First novel of the trilogy (not yet finished) the Jackpot. In 2020 the second novel, "Agency" was published (I am reading it now). I haven't seen the Amazon Prime version and I'm not sure I'm going to see it. The reason is that I don't think it can live up to the novel. Perhaps one of the best novels translating today's complex reality (past, present, fact, fiction, economics, politics...).

Sophie Kemp grew up in Schenectady, New York, where Kurt Vonnegut, her favorite writer as a teen, lived for a time after WWII. She writes for the Paris Review about visiting Vonnegut's "charmingly shabby" house on a road trip with her father, who bought her "Slaughterhouse-Five" and sparked her love of the author.

BINTI (2015; Spanish edition 2018)

I have read Nnedi Okorafor's novella, Binti, and I found it wonderful (as well as very entertaining). Also, with a witty reflection on the decolonization of museums.

I picked this up at Fantasycon to see whether I wanted to subscribe. It’s superb! It’s hard to pick a single standout story, but I loved ‘The Alien Invasion’ by Ely Percy, and ‘Space’ by John Buchan (‘author of ‘The 39 Steps’). @shorelineofinfinity #sf #sciencefiction #shortstories #bookstodon @bookstodon

brings forward a usually neglected and abandoned as non existent (even in the future) issue about in .
In general the creators have shown repeatedly that they don't stick to clichés and usual tropes to deliver a brilliant series.
Even from the opening scene of s1e1 they show their intentions by re-enacting the 1st manned moon landing in a provocative way.

Ukazały się "NanoFantazje 3" od Fantazmatów (za darmo!). A tam m.in. moje opowiadanie.

A piszę o czterech latach, bo ten tekst został przyjęty do publikacji cztery lata temu.
