It is crazy that in the conversation around #imessage on #android with #beeper was the unspoken assumption that #apple would be happy to foot the bill for android users to use their service for free and let a third party company charge a subscription for using Apple resources.
Why would that ever work? What company would ever agree to that?
Even when development started in summer '79 it took twice as long as Apple expected, not only because they had to get rid of Jobs first. So LISA wasn't launched earlier than 1983 with 1Mb RAM for almost U$D 10K. The project was a $50 million investment for Apple Inc., and kept losses low since it sold almost 5K units annually. After 27 months it was in-house competition that buried the Lisa computers, litterally. In the end it was a zero sum game for Apple, but a huge step for modern graphic user-interfaces and more personal computers.

I am tempted to start using the @Vivaldi browser but then I looked* at the diversity in the underlying technology and I think it is better to promote and start using @firefox :firefox: more.

🚨PSA: iOS 17 turns these sensitive location options back on. If you have disabled significant locations as well as adding your location information to your iPhone analytics before upgrading to iOS 17, iOS 17 will turn the options on as shown in the screenshot.
While significant locations remain local on your iPhone, they can be abused as they record detailed information about the locations you visit frequently. iPhone analytics, on the other hand, are shared with Apple. Having your location information included in these analytics reports might have privacy implications, even if the reports don't identify you.
Security experts have always advised to turn these two options off.
Go the Settings app: Privacy & Security ➡️ Location Services ➡️ Scroll down to System Services ➡️ Find these two options and turn them off:

How is it that #Apple can make an iPhone with tons of features except the ability to really make it loud enough to hear for those of us who are hearing impaired? And don't tell me about hearing aids thru Bluetooth. I want to know why there's no way to just make the volume really loud on the phone itself. Or is there a way and I've just never found it?
Apple doesn’t have groundbreaking features to entice people to buy their new products. Instead, it wants to convince you that if you buy an iPhone or Apple Watch, it could literally save your life and will mitigate your environmental footprint while it’s at it.
But those are pretty dubious claims that rely on carbon offsets and dismiss all the harm and suffering that’s been chronicled in Apple’s supply chain. Don’t buy the PR!
