October was apparently unofficial “knit things with worsted yarn” month for me and has led to my most projects completed from start to finish in one month ever. Yes, here is my 4th bonus #FallFinishAlong project. These are Batten Slippers in worsted weight Icelandic yarn. So cozy! And kind of a fun construction with i-cord start before picking up and knitting cuffs separately and joining together. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts
Another bonus #FallFinishAlong FO! My first completed brioche project is this Harlow Hat in worsted yarn. It hasn’t been blocked yet but I’m calling it anyway. I will block it eventually but it’s wearable now. There are a few errors here and there I’ve decided to ignore. The biggest issue is that the tubular cast on is not, well, tubular. I’m going to practice and make sure i get it right for the next time. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts
These were a gift for someone who is avoiding animal fibers due to allergies in her house. I was curious about non-wool sock yarns so got some advice from some folk on the @knittymag discord about yarn and trying a princess sole and gave it a shot.
The yarn is Universal's Bamboo Pop Sock, and it gave me trouble on my usual small circulars and went into timeout for 10 months, but I pulled them out for #FallFinishAlong and changed needles and it was much smoother sailing from there. It's not evident from the photo but the yarn is bumpy and tends to tangle, and it worked up at a very different gauge than my usual wool-heavy sock yarns. I like the self striping pattern though!
The pattern is called Comfy Soled Socks: https://dogloversyarn.blogspot.com/2008/03/multi-sized-comfy-soled-socks-pattern.html?m=1 -- it's got some nice ideas for the sole and a more padded slip stitch heel and I'll likely do it again. The "princess" sole is "knit side in" to supposedly feel nicer on the feet, but one of the results is that the socks look pretty weird right off the needles, so I blocked them before mailing.
Not sure if I'll do the non-wool sock thing again since they were a bit of a pain, but I know I can if it ever comes up again or if the person I gave these to decides she loves them and she wants more.
Shawl size, unblocked = enough to cover one drowsy doggy donut.
This is the last of the knitting things I was working on for #FallFinishAlong and it's the last project I actually expected to finish in the fall. (I've still got a quilt, embroidery and spinning on the go that I was working on in September, but they'll finish when they finish.)
And they are done! My second bonus #FallFinishAlong project, colorblock camp socks from Ozetta with bonus contrast toe. These worsted socks probably won’t fit in my shoes but they’ll work in boots and be good around the house. The Icelandic yarn has an interesting texture. I hope it softens up with a soak. I need to remember these are non-superwash or I’m going to end up with felted baby slippers instead of adult socks ;) #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts
Now that my Halloween cowl is blocking, time to pick up my leftovers from #FallFinishAlong before I start my kid's winter hat. I've just got the lace edging/bindoff left on this one!
Pattern: Ishneich Shawl by Lucy Hauge
Yarns: a Sweet Georgia party of 5 mini set and the light green yarn is Knit Picks dyed by my kid.
The Snowflake slippers are officially done, ends all woven in. Unblocked but I’m not really planning to block them anyway. Cast on and finished in extended #FallFinishAlong! The pics show outside view of too and bottom and side view of inside and outside. The slippers use twined knitting on the instep for stretchiness and stranded knitting on the sole. The cuffs are done with two strands twined in the same color. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts#FallFinishAlong_FOs
Last #FallFinishAlong bound off just before lunch was served, I wasn’t allowed to take it back home for a final block (“don’t be silly, I can do that myself”), mum put it on immediately 🥰
#FallFinishalong Update on my 3rd WIP: from 'knitted tent' via sizing down, maths, moving the sleeves back & under-bust decreases to current progress @knitting
Dug this out of hibernation to finish up for my niece's birthday next month.
Honestly, the pattern sucked. It wasn't that complicated but the instructions are SO terrible. And it's not just me, there's whole blogs about it, lmao.
So I fought with this every step of the way, and I'm so glad to have it done and blocking. Didn't pin it because I wanted to see how it'd dry when my sister washes it.
Wow! 43% of #FallFinishAlong_Polls respondents are going to continue through October! That’s awesome! And to everyone else, I hope this was a fun burst of energy in your September (even if it was your spring instead of your fall). I look forward to next year! Remember, #FallFinishAlong didn’t specify WHICH fall you had to finish in ;). Keep posting your projects! Thanks everyone for finishing-along. #knitting#crochet#quilting#ceramics#FiberArts@fiberarts@knitting
@consumablejoy@fiberarts@knitting gosh 🤣🤣i love the never ending fall thing.
I will go through september and work in october. I just hope i´ll find strength to work on my red fluffy shawl again.
Otherwise, i started and finished so many things. Without blocking for now.
Socks, sleeveless top for next summer, winter hat, and 3 shawls.
I only left aside my red fluffy shawl.
All this to say that i am very happy that #fallfinishalong is continuing.
Who knows what might come out my of needles
😆
I was too ashamed to post about this during #FallFinishAlong (especially when I was supposed to be finishing my other sweater), buuuuut I cast on a new project a few weeks ago 🙊
I've found I really enjoy color work!
Pattern is Cotton Grass Jumper by The Petite Knitter. Yarn is Berroco Ultra Alpaca in Lichen and Peat Moss.
One more success from #FallFinishAlong -- I finished the second sock today!
Pattern: Comfy Soled Socks
Yarn: Universal Bamboo Pop (yes, it self stripes like that)
I don't usually bother to block socks but I think I might because the princess sole on these makes them look really weird, and these will be a gift. Also, I love the final look of this yarn but it definitely wasn't my favourite to knit with which is why this pair took almost a year to finish and it probably would still be in hibernation if it weren't for the knit along. The recipient needs things wool-free though so I couldn't use my usual go-to stock yarns. If anyone can recommend other animal-free sock yarns let me know, though!
I've got this seamless, top-town raglan two-color brioche child cardigan thing I masterminded this summer. It's more manageable now that I'm done with the short row shaping+raglan increases and put the sleeves on hold, but it's still A PROJECT every time I pick it up. I won't know if my math is correct until I finish it, so let's finish it!
@knitting Look, I KNOW this isn't what we meant for #FallFinishAlong WIPs, but actually something I've been putting off for so so long was updating the knitting projects on my website.
So now FINALLY (and thanks to FallFinishers) you can see how this project continues to take shape at
