Started another pair of #socks In case you’re wondering, I joined a sock #yarn of the month club this year. Now that we’re ending the year, I thought it was time to start #knitting 🤣🤣
When people were asking about fun Advent projects I completely spaced out on Imagined Landscapes yearly gnome adventure! If you’re still looking for a fun Advent thing check out the mystery gnome event Snow Matter What. She says it’s easy to catch up because the clues are small and spaced out (she has other good stuff between clues) https://www.imaginedlandscapes.com/snow-matter-what/
I really have to clear some cupboard space, so decided to use up some of the leftover wool on a Fair isle jumper for one of the forthcoming Feb/ March babies before I buy any more wool (which I inevitably will, of course). Just randomly choosing designs I like the look of from Mary Jane Mucklestone’s excellent 200 Fair Isle Designs book #knitting@knitting#fiberarts
Treated myself for the first day of December. Although honestly i suppose I treat myself when I feel like it. I happened to realize a favorite indie dyer had just restocked her store and I could not resist. I now have more Little Lionhead Knits yarn when i have not yet used my previous sock sets. I bought one more thing but that might end up a gift so not sharing. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts (remove groups to reply)
When I finish this next repeat I'll do the edge chart. It turns out the modified chart is even simpler than I anticipated. Excited to order the super luxe yarn next month. Then we're going bead shopping!!
I saw this video the other day with a new method for SSK that I had never tried before. I love it. It’s easy and it looks nicely symmetrical to the k2tog. I love Patty Lyons 💜 #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts (remove groups to reply)
25 hexiflats is a very very long way away from a blanket. I’ll have to to turn up the speed if I expect to hit a substantial blanket in the next several years (17 so far this year). These are for my variation on a Beekeeper’s Quilt (unstuffed hexagons). #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts (remove groups to reply)
I noticed the Norwegian purl videos often also feature the Norwegian method of tensioning the yarn and so far I just do not get it! Arne and Carlos are very insistent this is the most relaxed way to hold the yarn. It’s some kind of pinching method, no extended index, and no wrapping around the pinky. If anyone has tips on how to “get” this please send. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts remove groups to reply
I have learned the Norwegian Purl! I have never found purling in continental knitting / picking that difficult actually, but I am definitely preferring the look of the ribbing I am getting with alternating knitting with the Norwegian purl. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts remove groups to reply
And here it is in all its unblocked glory: my Bumblebee Acres Farm Return of the King advent 2022 Painting (big) Honeycombs shawl from Stephen West. Day 1 at bottom (curled so you can’t really see it). Full skein used for honeycombs. Close-up shows the earlier days and a pin of Aragon that came in the advent set. I’m hoping blocking will help even out all the little weirdnesses and also make it larger. Happy with it overall. @knitting@fiberarts#knitting#FiberArts
Officially cast off my Painting (big) Honeycombs Advent Shawl! Here is a pic of just the last part of the shawl. I have a lot of ends to weave in plus some serious blocking to do. One observation is that it also seems like my gauge is a lot looser so honeycombs are a lot bigger now than they were when I worked on this project last year. Hopefully it won’t be obvious after blocking. Excited to be done! More pics soon. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts
Getting so so close to the end of last year’s advent shawl. However it turns out there is 1 more honeycomb row than I expected because I didn’t realize the pattern was saying do 34 honeycomb rows and then do one more. Happily it doesn’t throw off much (just one extra honeycomb of the last color). I have 3 more rows of honeycombs or a total of 4 1/2 honeycombs to go before a 25 stitch icord bindoff. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts (remove groups to reply)
Working on my doodle socks. I’m bad at color selection. For colorwork it’s good to take a b&w pic of the yarns together to ensure you have good contrast for the colors to stand out from each other. I didn’t in this case and even though it “might” be ok (my partner insists it stands out well) when you look at the black and white pic you can see why I find the contrast to be not good enough. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts
I ordered 2 yarn tensioning rings because although I normally do stranded knitting with one color in each hand, doing 3 color knitting was hard and I thought the ring guide might help. Even 2 color knitting, it seems like the ring guide could help with making it easier to capture long floats. Plus, knitting bling, how could i resist? But I have never tried to tension 2 yarns in one hand before so this is me just learning and trying to get the hang of it. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting
I have 10 skeins of very rustic single yarn, worsted weight. It's been sitting in my stash for over a year and I couldn't decide what to do with it.
Now it's going to be an oversized cardigan that should be more than warm enough as outdoor wear most of winter as long as it doesn't rain too much. Mistake rib creates lots of volume, a lot like brioche, without using the yardage (and weight) of brioche.
Current progress on my doodle socks trying to use up all the colors in a woolstok yarn bundle. I re-started the second sock due to it being at too tight a tension and have finally made it back to wear I was when i decided to rip back. #knitting#fiberarts@knitting (remove group to reply)
Experiments of entrelac with self-striping DK - the entrelac is working out pretty well. The overlap of same color rectangles on top of each other has been relatively minimal so far so I’m pleased with that. Unfortunately the expansion ratio from cuff to entrelac is too much so it wouldn’t make a good fingerless mitt at this size. I’ll rip out and begin again at some point (when I’m not working on one of my multiple other WIPs) #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts
I'd never thought that (though the picture is small which could obscure things a bit).
I'm in love with the design, and I'm really contemplating, if I want to tackle that one day. Without measurements it would be a real adventure... Because whatever size 34 means, it certainly won't fit me.
