Cross stitcher, knitter, crocheter, newbie sewer (sewist?). Multicrafter extraordinaire! Have a YouTube channel I'll never not feel awkward about.

@LemmyFeed @CrimeDad oddlysatisfying material right there, great work OP!

@bitflipped Definitely with you there! In this case the app in question actually has a pretty good export / backup process but I just got complacent and didn't use it enough. Worked out ok in the end but it very nearly didn't and my lesson is learned! 😬

Um, has anyone ever bothered manually converting a decently large paper pattern into digital?

Was it worth the time you saved during actual stitching?

Because it seemed like a really good idea to give myself a Pattern Keeper version of Errol, but this much took me half an hour, so maybe not...

@ubermeisters May have to look into this at some point if I ever stitch any more of their paper-only patterns!

thegiddystitcher,
@thegiddystitcher@sunny.garden avatar

@ubermeisters Ah right, I was thinking maybe you meant people scan in the paper version, project it onto the fabric and sketch it out or something! Other way round makes a lot more sense 😁

thegiddystitcher,
@thegiddystitcher@sunny.garden avatar

@Jornia @Drachin @lemmy_stitch Thank you! Mine is significantly smaller, but still big enough to be a pain in paper form, so sounds like I was on the right track all along.

rolls up sleeves

@thegiddystitcher@sunny.garden avatar

@Jornia @Drachin @lemmy_stitch Sadly mine has so much backstitch everywhere PK can't really make sense of it. But you know what, I'm in the groove, I'll just keep going.

For science! 😆

@Jornia @Drachin @lemmy_stitch Will let you know how long this takes and if it was worth it in the end 😅

Is it too late to be posting spooky stuff?

This took me like a week to stitch, another week for my fingers to heal up, and then I went and forgot to post it 😭

My first ever hand embroidery piece. Not too shabby, I reckon! Good tree 😁

My official last project for the extended . Roll on the next one!

Pattern is https://www.etsy.com/listing/1554526317/pdf-pattern-spooky-cabin-step-by-step

Closeup of the tree and the ghost, both made with raised puff stitches that give the piece a pleasing texture

Mildly belated but cute-as-heck FO

Keep forgetting to post this finish, so let's do it while I think on!

This is Ocean Wonder from Caterpillar Cross Stitch, it was their subscription box number 13 and I think we can all agree it's adorable.

I think my favourites are the little turtle and seahorse friends, can't decide between them!

I have no idea how to FFO this but it's a problem for Future Michelle 😅

@lemmy_stitch

Close-up, tilted photo of the project, focusing on the area with the turtle and seahorse. They technically have no expressions, but they manage to look happy and carefree regardless.

Artecy freebies for October

This month we've got a colourful tree that I really like the look of (90 colours, but it just might be worth it!), and a quintessential Italian coastal town.

This is, as promised, a reminder to cross stitch pattern hoarders everywhere 😂

Grab 'em at http://artecy.com/free.html

@IoSapsai @lemmy_stitch Yeah I'm not made of money, here!

Can't decide how I feel about the AI thing, honestly. But it makes me a bit uncomfortable so I'll sit with it and figure it out later 🤷‍♀️

Spooky Halloween shirt complete!

Husband has always fancied a proper cool Halloween shirt, so I picked this fabric in secret and banned him from the sewing room until it was complete.

I could only afford the absolute bare minimum yardage, and didn't have much control over pattern placement (also no room for cutting errors, eek!)

But it all worked out and as of tonight he's seen it and tried it on and appears to love it. All good!

I will get proper posed photos at some point but for now here it is on my decidedly more curvy dress form!

Main annoyance is that my topstitching is a bit wonky, and I'm normally pretty good at topstitching. Oh well.

@weirdsquid I'd love to claim that the button band thing was on purpose! Ideally the pumpkins wouldn't be quite so "on the boobs" but needs must when you have the minimum fabric I suppose.

But the pattern matching on the pocket definitely was on purpose, and I'm proud of that part 😂

We'll be doing our annual Spooktacular movie marathon tomorrow so naturally it needed to be ready by then!

@thegiddystitcher@sunny.garden avatar

@weirdsquid Pretty sure if you can't see it that means it was a success, so thanks! 😆

Given how much I enjoy knitting socks, encourage others to try knitting socks, and basically never stop talking about knitting socks, I thought you might all appreciate the project notes from my first ever socks.

@meggied90 Toe-up gang for life! Except for all the times I knit top-down, of course 😂

(also these first ones that I hated were toe-up, so that put me off for a while, but I came back around lol)

Just over a year for a pair of socks? Yeah that's about my kind of pace.

Still, Halloween socks in time for (this) Halloween, and even more importantly in time for our annual Spooktacular movie night on Saturday. Hurrah!

All kinds of mistakes, some egregious pooling because I love a heel flap and gusset and can never be bothered to do anything to avoid it. Love them!

Another angle on the finished Halloween socks, this time my feet are held sole-to-sole showing off the sides of both socks.
And finally a top-down view showing off the slip-stitch pattern on the top of the socks in more detail.

Do I suspect this #knitting pattern looks much better on other people than it ever could on me?

Yes.

Am I casting it on anyway in a spirit of hopeful experimentation?

Also yes.

50p sheet into an entire holiday outfit!

Yep. Fifty pence in a charity shop, you literally can't go wrong.

I made this over the summer in preparation for our big family holiday, and remember I had to ask for help with gathering over at @sewing because it was being a nightmare and I am a noob. Worked out pretty well in the end, though! (Thank you Lemmy folks for the advice)

Lots of firsts with this skirt! Well, two firsts. I put pockets into a pattern that didn't have them, and also drafted a curved waistband so it would actually fit. Felt pretty pro after all that, I won't lie 😎

Patterns are the Cali Skirt and Ellie Bralette from https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/NHPATTERNS, and I was about to shoutout @wisbr for enabling me with that link in the first place, but she seems to have gone and now I'm sad 😢

#Sewing #CruiseWitch #MeMadeWardrobe #ItHasPockets #Thrifting

The same outfit from the previous photo, but now modelled by me, an early middle-aged white woman with long brown hair and glasses. I have my hands in the skirt pockets and am swooshing it about, showing off the two slits in the front. I look pretty pleased with myself!

It's and that can only mean one thing!

(it's me reposting all the projects I already posted to the various craft communities on earlier today)

Here we have an awkward double shot of my Steampunk World Map project, which is slow going as I add all those tiny shapes down the right hand side, and this self-designed spooky house silhouette .

The house is so spooky, it gave me motion sickness earlier today. Yeah, you heard me.

Then I've also made good progress on the Halloween sock! Heel is turned, gusset is next, this might actually be finished in time for me to wear it on 2023! 🤯

@knitting @crossstitch

Half-knitted sock in a slip stitch pattern of orange and purple. The little heel pouch has been created, but where the sock gusset will eventually be is now just a gaping hole!

@IoSapsai The title thing happens because Lemmy takes the first line of your toot as the post title. So if you just put the first sentence on its own, and do your community tagging separately, it's totally fine.

I have also experimented extensively, lol.

PSA: Artecy freebies for September are up.

I'm sure most #CrossStitch & #Embroidery folks are already aware, but #Artecy give away a couple of their patterns for free each month.

Exactly when the page updates each month is anyone's guess, so I just have a calendar reminder to keep checking back so I can catch 'em all 😁

Anyone else who likes to collect and hasn't seen the latest update yet..behold! https://www.artecy.com/free.html

@lemmy_stitch

thegiddystitcher,
@thegiddystitcher@sunny.garden avatar

@sortofblue You're welcome! Soon you too can have an unreasonably large library of Artecy patterns you'll never get round to stitching! :apartyblobcat:

Sometimes they add them early in the month, sometimes on the last day, sometimes they forget entirely and then do two months all at once. I'll post here whenever I find they've changed it, can't hurt 😁
