The “How old are your WIPs poll” is closed! There are a lot of adulting WIPs out there. And lots of people have at least one long-term WIP laying around. Nothing wrong with older WIPs! Some are even treasures and heirlooms. Still, starting tomorrow we’ll talk about how to get over whatever keeps us from finishing them, and the week after we’ll even perhaps commit to ripping/killing some! #knitting#fiberarts#FallFinishAlong#FallFinishAlong_Polls@knitting@fiberarts
The first week of #FallFinishAlong is almost over. How’s it going for everyone?
So far I have finished 2 pairs of socks and 4 hexiflats. I also wove in the ends for a camisole. It turns out it is huge - I could take it in 2 inches on each side and I probably will before blocking. No progress on Xmas stockings but might do it next week. Getting ready for Week 2 of the finishalong which is about overcoming blockers on our WIPs.
So, I finished the 2nd sleeve of the small cardigan for my 3-yo daughter. Hurray!
Only an i-cord edge of the fronts and neckline left to do.... only... I finished all the yarn.
So I'm thinking about going all mad and doing the i-cord edge in a totally different colour. Maybe even black? #knitting mastodonians... what do you think?? I do have a second skein of the same yarn, but... what to do!!
I made two more “hexiflats” for my beekeeper’s quilt yesterday but as you can see from this photo, the project is only 12 hexagons so far. For a 3x4 quilt, the estimate is 384 so I have a long, long way to go. Definitely not a candidate for this #FallFinishAlong but a nice change of pace. I’m actually enjoying getting back to it. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts
Full transparency, after finishing those socks and saying I’d work on another WIP such as my dad’s Xmas stocking, I just … didn’t feel like it. So I decided to take a little side step and make some hexiflats (unstuffed “puffs”) for my Beekeeper Quilt long-term project for using up my fingering scraps. Here’s two using the yarns from the Hiking Boot Socks. #knitting#FiberArts#FallFinishAlong@knitting@fiberarts
First two #FallFinishAlong_FOs with ends woven in and officially blocked! On the blockers: pom-less “Pom Squad” socks from Summer Lee. I’m unhappy because my gauge seems to have changed a lot in the years since I started these and one sock is a lot looser than the other. Not on blockers: Hiking Boot Socks from Marta Chapman. Love these. I might always do a folded cuff from now on. #FallFinishAlong#knitting#fiberarts@knitting#sockknitting@fiberarts
Second project for the #FallFinishAlong - the white linen top is done and awaiting washing and blocking (which I will attempt later today - probably).
Now on to my sock WIP's (there are 3 of them). This one has been put into timeout, because I dected a broken thread way back about the point where the heel started.
I thought for a moment of mending it, but decided to rip back because mending would take nearly as much time as re-knitting.
I thought I had 3 Xmas stocking WIPs but I only found 2. Pretty sure the 3rd one is hiding. The small one is for Wickett, my parents’ dog. You can only see the tops of the doggie ears just coming into being there. The one on the right is for my dad and is a toe-up pattern with the bottoms of the Snowmen visible. That one is almost done and is definitely a candidate for finishing in the #fallfinishalong. Will decide on some next steps tomorrow #knitting#fiberarts@knitting
I've got this seamless, top-town raglan two-color brioche child cardigan thing I masterminded this summer. It's more manageable now that I'm done with the short row shaping+raglan increases and put the sleeves on hold, but it's still A PROJECT every time I pick it up. I won't know if my math is correct until I finish it, so let's finish it!
Thanks to the 175 who answered the first #FallFinishAlong poll: how many WIPs do you have 2-5 projects, I am relieved to see that a good 20% of us fall above 10 WIPs. I’m actually above 20 but sadly Mastodon polls only permit 4 options so we couldn’t get more granular or offer answers like “I don’t keep track” lol. Stay turned for more #FallFinishAlong_Polls. #knitting#FiberArts@knitting@fiberarts (remove groups for reply)
This is my main WIP and my number one FFA goal. A trans flag blanket (Ironically the pattern is called Lars and the Real Girl - trans humor is so fun). I need it finished before my son's top surgery date in Oct, but sooner is better!
(reminder to leave off the three groups if you reply!)
My projects for the #FallFinishAlong! Left to right: 2x2 rib hat, purely for knitting belt practice. Sleeves for a baby cardigan. #Sarkle jumper for my mum, lower hems on provisional cast on so I can make them just so, only she’s on the other side of the continent now and can’t try it on… Rainbow booties for a second baby. Heel turn and foot of a sock.
@venite@knitting@knitting I love how everyone is doing these thoughtful "displays" of the WIPs to be tackled as part of the #FallFinishAlong. Kudos again to @consumableJoy for conceptualizing and spearheading this project! 🙏🧶❤️
It's very fine yarn, worked with 2.5 mm needles. But I'm rather close, the divide for the armholes is done and I'm close to the front neck line. Then the back and closing the shoulders.
As we're getting another week of summer weather I'm motivated to finish so I can wear it at least once this year.
O, hello there, September. We meet again. Big shout out to everyone doing #FallFinishAlong . Picture below, my entire knitting life surrounded by what I'll be doing instead. (No, not brekky. The boxes. The packing boxes. Even Saga has her toys packed & ready to go.) I'll be cheering you from the sideline, asking the usual What Pattern What Yarn, & undoubtedly being led astray several times by your work. Good luck & happy finishing! #knitting@knitting
Here's the second of my #FallFinishAlong_FOs. My test knit sweater completed before the deadline. I'm very pleased with the product and the process of knitting.
I'm making really good progress on the #FallFinishAlong by binding off on my Niebling. It's not quite done yet - a doily is only complete after it's blocked!
I'll throw it into the laundry (in a mesh bag) tomorrow to see if it'll help with some of the yellowing because I hibernated it for way too long.
Love to hear your tips on getting yellow stains out of cotton!
It will be a dicebag. First time doing brioche. It should be honeycomb brioche stitch, but I think I use too large needles to really be able to see it. I will persevere, and maybe understand the logic behind brioche... K1 K1b, p w/slip etc... craziness.
@knitting #fallfinishalong
Thanks for the timely reminders, #knitting Mastodonians - have just realised September starts tomorrow facepalm.
Am pondering my #WIPs languishing in corners
