I've finished: The Stranger Times by C.K. McDonnell
It was recommended to me here on Mastodon' though I don't remember by who.
I hadn't heard of C.K. McDonnell before and am glad to have found such a talented comedy writer.
The Stranger Times is over the top sitcom urban fantasy.
There aren't many good funny fantasy writers. Many try to hard and it shows. McDonnell's characters go all the way across the line into caricature, thus avoiding the uncanny valley between the real and the absurd.
I have a deep love for the "Quentin Tarantino carves a turkey sketch" from Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (which, incidentally, is never shown on screen).
It's an advanced class in writing comedy, writing violence, and the role of the audience's imagination in storytelling.
In this episode Justin selfishly refuses to do what's best for the show. We also take a look at some more of the amazing submissions from the Threads community and answer some questions. www.2legit2crit.uk@ttrpg
#TheBlackening is so good. It's got so many fun moments with a great cast. It's not too late to watch a house-in-the-woods comedy. Spooky season isn't over. It isn't.
Your twenty fourth recommendation for the month is Chop (2011), a wonderfully hilarious horror comedy that plays out like a great riff on the Saw movies.
I usually only watch movies on the weekends and today we needed a new show so we started #Deadloch and it is QUITE delightful. I laughed aloud many times. It's a fresh and funny take on all those murder investigation/mystery shows that are so popular.
Starting right soon, we have a selection of short stories from the magnificent #MarkTwain, read for you by Sam! Stop on in for some tall tales and some satire, with a seasoning of social commentary. https://www.twitch.tv/chilliteracy
