is my shit completely broken or is firefish fucked now? i cant use stop.voring.me at all the site doesnt even load; i tried signing up for ff.social and i cant post, tf is going onn? #fediverse#fedi#mastodon#firefish#calckey#pleroma
“Firefish is a hot new microblogging platform”: it’s not that “new” at all, #Calckey, which has been around since 2021, has only recently changed its name to Firefish
the antennas / news picker had apparently not yet been fully understood by the author: they do not fill retroactively and it is a full-text search that also finds parts of words. Therefore, if it doesn’t fit, search words can be excluded - it works very well for me! If you use it for a little longer instead of just taking a quick look, you can use it to structure your content very well.
“Lack of an official app is kind of disappointing”: “official” apps are perhaps important as a “brand” for some, the so-called “Mastodon” app is also the worst app ever for Mastodon (fortunately with many better alternatives). The PWA for Firefish works great on all devices, if you don’t want to miss out on any features and want the best look, you don’t need an app.
The biggest hindrance at the moment right now is the flagship instance at firefish.social:" The instance has clearly communicated that it primarily serves as a test instance, i.e. it does not strive for or want to guarantee stability. In contrast to mastodon.social, Firefish itself also makes clearer reference to the selection and there are now really many Firefish instances.
For me, the biggest disadvantage of Firefish at the moment is that it doesn’t yet federate properly with Lemmy.

#akoma and a plethiora more of them… you can have all the features here, which are you missing on mastodon… but people love to complain about missing features than trying another software… #mastodonisnotthefediverse
Are there any #fediverse platforms that don't compress or others ruin image uploads? #mastodon reduces many images to under 2000 pixels in either direction, usually in the 1600-1800 range from what I've seen.
The #Firefish word #trademark is registered for NICE classes 9, 41, 42, i.e. computer software and services etc., for the whole of the European Union (and I believe for the UK too, not checked). Server admins in those jurisdictions, you may want to avoid domains containing the word or at least get legal advice before deploying a server with such a domain - this could potentially be costly otherwise.
I should add for completeness that the existing registrations do not exactly match the provision of social networking software and services and some relevant activities in classes 38 and 45 are not registered at all, but the existing protection is broad (in particular for class 9, but this may be more a risk for the project itself, not the individual server) and close enough to consider the legal risk - a specialist lawyer will be able to do so. #calckey#firefish#trademark
Hello, I am looking for some cool Filipino accounts on Mastodon that you guys can recommend. Can be food, travel, news, as long as it’s an active account / group. :) thank you in advance, much love ❤️🇵🇭
You can follow any of these from your own server as long as they are not blocking each other. You don't need to create an account on the other servers if all you want is to interact or follow.
This is not a comprehensive list. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of Filipinos on the fediverse network.
Hyphenised to avoid mass tagging. Just remove the hyphen or convert to URL format.

Trying to figure out the #Fediverse Reddit-likes, and feeling like a newb. Should I be setting up a new account? are there apps? Would a #Lemmy app work with #Kbin? Is that even the right question?
@john You can browse Lemmy or kbin instances without logging in, but you need to create an account if you want to subscribe.
I think apps are coming or maybe are here. Lately I've been on my desktop browser a lot so I'm not sure.
Client apps generally use the frontend API of the server software, so it depends on whether or not Lemmy and kbin APIs will be compatible. For example, #Calckey apps are not compatible with #Mastodon and vice-versa.
Say a competent & committed person launched a premium instance. #Calckey, let’s say, but it could be any #Fediverse flavor.
By premium I mean that it would require all accounts to pay $15/month.
Further assume that 100 people would sign up for that. (For the record; I would totally sign up for that.)
That’s $1500/month. Not a living wage, but possibly enough to make it worth their while to do all the backend shit people like me cannot do, which likely is not anywhere near a full-time job.
I know the devil is in the details, but on broad strokes… why wouldn’t this work?
I actually had a #misskey account a while back, but I think I was on a bit of a sleepy instance and focused on #Mastodon. I do miss the longer posts & neat features of misskey/calckey though, so giving this another try - maybe for longer posts.
(this masto account will remain, calckey is in addition!)
As of today, #Calckey makes up 0.13% of the #Fediverse by user count, and 1.9% of the Fediverse by server count. We're tiny but mighty, growing each day. (Stats by @FediDB )
** GlitchSoc new features on tech.lgbt ** Oooo ... nice to see that we have a couple of useful new features: any weird looking posts in the next week may be me playing around with:
Comment: I do still love [#Calckey for it's migration of posting history and 'Antennae', but for now at least have realised I'll wait until mobile #Fedilab :android: App supports it fully - which is supposed to be coming. Fedilab is so feature-rich ...]
Thanks to everyone who works on making stuff accessible outside walled gardens but the only viable way seems to create the content outside of those gardens in the first place.
You know what fucks me up? The fact that several different #Fediverse platforms can seemingly talk to each other seamlessly, even the ones that seemingly were not even meant to talk to each other. Stuff on #mastodon is visible here on #kbin. My account from a #Lemmy instance can see my other account on #CalcKey. There's several different "not-Twitter" services each with their own interfaces and instances, and they all chat with each other. I can feel my brain expanding as I learn all of this.
Firefish Could Be the Next Big Thing (wedistribute.org)
Firefish is a new Fediverse social platform with a beautiful design, cool features, and great tools for your feed. It has a lot of potential to grow.
If you’ve heard that people have problems with the head of mastodon (gargron) this recent little incident might be an example. (github.com)
