Dear fediverse, I wonder how you get music? I would rather not use Amazon or Pandora, Spotify, etc. Interested in digital and traditional formats.

CrystalEYE,
@CrystalEYE@kbin.social avatar

@flicka I mostly stumpled upon artists or songs via BandCamp, SoundCloud and YouTube, sometimes Instagram. If an artist catches my interest enough to buy an album, I get digital on BandCamp or physical directly from the artist (or used CDs on Rebuy).

"Every time someone visits SonicGarbage, it performs a YouTube search with randomly generated phrases to discover videos. It then downloads these videos, processes their audio, and converts them into two formats ready for sampling: one-shot and loop."

@stefan Wow, such a fun idea. Have to fiddle around with it more, but after my first usage I would love to be able to filter the number of pads to random 8, 16 or 32. It is just overwhelming to have so many sounds available. :)

== Mac Glocky

@JCPhoenix They definitely do! I replayed Sam & Max and DOTT on an emulator for my phone and played the remastered versions of Monkey Island. They are still awesome games.
I want to add "ToonStruck" to this list as well. One of the funniest, weirdest games I ever played.

@worfamerryman "We want to have thin phones" is no longer a valid argument manufacturers can come up with when the cameras keep sticking out so much, in my opinion at least.

I am currently using the Xiaomi Mi 9T for the exact reason that it was one of the last phones to not have a hole in the display for the camera.
Yes, Xiaomi stopped giving it software updates, but you can install Lineage OS if you want to upgrade to newer Android versions.
Apart from that the phone still runs very smooth with everyday use and there is not much I am missing.

Is there an easy way to copy all my subscriptions and followed users from over to ? Or do I just have to copy&paste them?

CrystalEYE,
@CrystalEYE@kbin.social avatar

@Jo Oh god, that reads horribly like this article about Google killing XMPP that spread around last week: https://ploum.net/2023-06-23-how-to-kill-decentralised-networks.html

@Frog@kbin.social True! If it is Important to know, dear @DeadNinja, please copy the TEXT over here, not a link to reddit. We don't want traffic to go there, we want traffic from there to migrate over here. :)

Can I somehow follow hashtags on kbin?
I would love to see posts or articles with certain hashtags

@dandan Oh, that is a good idea, I will try that. I will still miss some threads then about these topics, but at least I can catch all the posts. Thanks!

Feature Request: upvote/downvote coloring?

Came here from reddit. I can't tell if i have upvoted a post or not, as the coloring difference is very minor. This creates a frustrating experience on kbin. Can we get upvote/downvote coloring please. Not sure if i am posting in the right magazine. Thank you for reading.

CrystalEYE,

@revengebreaker I think that is about to be changed: https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/pulls/154

How do I see what magazines I'm subscribed to?

I know how to see the THREADS that I'm subscribed to, but I haven't been able to find a list of subscriptions I have to check a magazine that I've forgotten the exact name of, or magazines that might be active but are getting crowded out by more active magazines, or inactive magazines that I want to just post to. Is this hidden somewhere?

CrystalEYE,
@CrystalEYE@kbin.social avatar

This maybe sounds stupid: How can I quickly see my subscriptions?

CrystalEYE,
@CrystalEYE@kbin.social avatar

@Noxvento It should be on your profile under "subscriptions" or https://kbin.social/u/Noxvento/subscriptions. But it seems like you did not follow anything?

While you're waiting on a kbin app, you should know the mobile site is entirely functional as a mobile app. Just make a shortcut for your home screen (kbin.social)

Apps are always nice, but lots of mobile websites, including the kbin one, are entirely functional as an app. In your browser you can just make a shortcut to them, and they'll appear on your home screen and act as an app....

Screenshot of kbin on Firefox, with the Install button. Then the kbin icon on the home screen. Then kbin opened from the shortcut
CrystalEYE,
@CrystalEYE@kbin.social avatar

@PurpleReign As far as I read that is already in development and should come soon.

@JoeCoT

Kbin and Lemmy should come to a consensus on how to name stuff

Is there really a reason, for example, for there to be the distinction of "magazine" and "community"? When you're federating, the same features should be called the same, if close enough. That way everyone can talk with everyone about stuff and we all immediately understand each other....

CrystalEYE, (edited )
@CrystalEYE@kbin.social avatar

Not really. A magazine is a collection of articles that all are about a certain topic. It is not that hard of a concept to grasp

Plus: The polish dev called his platform kbin = karabin = rifle, the contents of a rifle are stored in a magazyn = magazine. I actually would have loved if the dev had called threads "bullets" / pocisk to keep going with the theme.

EDIT: this info might be wrong, as @minnieo pointed out. kbin is just a reference to the linux sbin folder.

I am more confused with the upvote and down vote buttons on kbin: the upvote is actually favorite, the equivalent to reddits upvote is boost, the downvote seems not to have a real function besides counting the number.

CrystalEYE,
@CrystalEYE@kbin.social avatar

@minnieo Oh, sorry. I just read it somewhere in a comment and it made sense. Since there is no official FAQ or help page that explains it, I just accepted it as truth.
