@fediverse Let's face it. When talking about the Fediverse, it is very hard to sell interoperability between different types of instances as a major advantage.

Worse is Better.

@xigoi @Anbalsilfer Not everything is federated yet, but of course we are part of the same network (= ).
For example, I can reply here from Mastodon (from etc. it also works) and also make posts in Lemmy communities (by tagging the community account).

The real problem is: People use mastodon and are not willing to use other fediverse-software…

But there are so many of them out:

Are there any platforms that don't compress or others ruin image uploads? reduces many images to under 2000 pixels in either direction, usually in the 1600-1800 range from what I've seen.

Almost a week since I moved from / to Mastodon:

  • More apps to choose from, some of them really well made.
  • The web UI is not as good.
  • I miss emoji reactions - how am I supposed to express myself with just a star (favourite)?
  • Mastodon server configuration is sooo complicated, default post limit of only 500 characters 🐦
  • I miss MRF policies - auto custom emoji imports, policies for content and expiration
  • Many websites recognise my handle now (cough GitHub).

* QUESTION

is there a spreadsheet of how much it costs to run a instance based on # of users & activity?

i would like to see numbers from the hundreds to the millions

it would be cooler if we could have that information extended to all the other platforms: and amma gonna throw in in case there's any instances using ActivityPub & federating

(* lazyfedi is my take on the legendary asks from blogging days)

Does anyone know if posts from Pleroma/Akkoma can be embedded?

This closed issue from three years ago suggests this should be possible, but I can't seem to get this to work. Unless this is not typically enabled on instances?

Thanks to everyone who works on making stuff accessible outside walled gardens but the only viable way seems to create the content outside of those gardens in the first place.
