@pivic@bookstodon one of the strangest things about #goodreads is how absolutely terrible its algorithm is at recommendations. You might assume that Daddy #Bezos and #Amazon would know how to make that work but its truly awful. I think I'm like a lot of people in that I use it to track what I'm reading and ignore most of the social functions.
I had a good idea about who I wanted Lauren to be when I started writing The Challenges of Being Me. She appeared as a character in a previous book of mine, and she was the one character I got overwhelmingly positive feedback in DMs back on the bird site and emails. I am so glad I got to dive into growing her character with this latest book.

"Hephaistos watched himself in the great silver mirror. The magic had worked, well, like a charm. It wasn't his crude, bearded face staring back at him. Instead, he saw smooth cheeks, long, dark lashes and flowing golden hair."

Facing pressure in India, Netflix and Amazon back down on daring films
In the last four years, a chill has swept through the streaming industry in India as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party tightened its grip on the country’s political discourse and the American technology platforms that host it.
I signed this, along with more than 160 Jewish leaders calling on #apple#disney#google & #amazon to stop doing business on Twitter. I encourage others to leave that platform & stop giving Musk any legitimacy by your presence. #antisemitismhttps://www.xouthate.org/

Creatives: Would you like to better understand why writers & authors (+ musicians and artists) are being squeezed? The impact Amazon has had on the publishing industry, the chequered history of DRM, the dirt on copyright? How about 'how news got broken', 'why streaming doesn't pay' & what people in the creative industries can actually do about the current state of affairs? Highly recommend Choke Point Capitalism (by Rebecca Giblin & Cory Doctorow) as a read. Please ask your local library to get it in too so more people can have access.
President Lula vetoes the "Time Frame" law passed by the Brazilian Senate that would have undermined indigenous claims to land occupied prior to the ratification of the current Brazilian Constitution in October 1988. The veto could still be overturned by a majority vote in both houses of Congress.
Historically low river levels in Manaus in Brazilian Amazon caused by severe drought reveal submerged ancient rock art that hasn't been visible since 2010
Angeblich sieht man bei Amazon keine Flut an KI-generierten #EBooks. Trotzdem führt der #Onlinehändler ein tägliches Publikationslimit beim Self-Publishing ein."
If an #ebook subscription service sounds like it might be for you, please consider supporting one that isn't owned by #Amazon, that exploits its dominant position to force authors into exclusivity deals preventing their work from being available elsewhere. There are alternatives to #KindleUnlimited, including (but not limited to) #KoboPlus. @bookstodon
I’m a bit baffled that #Amazon would give up the opportunity to scan faces. If you have a married couple with joint card account, Amazon wouldn’t know which one of them made the purchase without cameras.
Doesn’t this also mean they need a human to monitor for people who don’t scan their payment card?
I know this might seem an odd request, but I'd like to celebrate the removal of my first novel's #Kindle edition from #Amazon. It was published by a now-defunct small press that went out of business in early 2019 and orphaned a lot of books, so if anybody had bought the Kindle edition of Without Bloodshed since then I wouldn't have gotten paid.
