Just Act Natural on steam is similar and more casual. If you don’t mind the claymation style animation I highly recommend it. Cheaper, more active, and I think more progress has been made than Spy Party too
This is because some people who aren’t as good at the game still want to feel like they earned all of the achievements. I feel that its a lot more inclusive and even though it feels more like “everybody wins a prize” I feel like if you truly love a challenge you shouldn’t need an achievement for doing it. I would rather have gaming be more inclusive than exclude some people.
I really like this one. Figuring out where to spend the cogs is difficult though - you can’t just resolve to never buy ammo, and yet there’s so many bonuses to spend on.
I liked the vibe of the PS1 FMV opening, I almost wish we could get more of those, where a game is telling a story that it will frequently “up the budget” for when something important is happening.
I’ve played and finished almost every Zelda game, one of the things I love about the Zelda saga is that every game has lots of common points with other games. But also it has its unique mechanics and feel.
Majora’s Mask is among the most complex games with its time mechanics and timed events. Also the atmosphere is quite opressing and strange compared to other games. Also you need to knowledge that N64 Zeldas almost belong to first generation 3D games which compared to new adventure 3D games aren’t as intuitive or playable.
I really loved oot, I can’t imagine the amount of hours I spent playing it. I’m looking forward to giving that another go. In fact, I’ll probably start tomorrow.
This might sound negative, but I don’t mean it that way. I just think differently about this. I’m glad for those who do enjoy keeping logs and writing about and reviewing games, but it’s not something I really want to do.
I guess I’ve never felt the need to keep a log of what I play. I’m either enjoying myself, or I bounce off of it to something else. I’ve also never really been stressed about a backlog. To me my backlog of games isn’t a list I need to complete, it’s a list of choices I currently have if I’m looking for something to do. I don’t even really have a backlog, just a list of games on steam and/or my hard drive. Along that same vein, I don’t feel pressured to finish games. If I’m really into one and I’ve made a lot of progress, I’ll push it through. If I’m not feeling it, I don’t. Games to me shouldn’t be a chore. I do give them a good try, though, because it sometimes takes a while for a game to hit it’s stride.
To me, because I’m not feeling those urges, keeping a list would be more of a chore for me than anything else.
Totally get it, and I wish I was more like that! I am definitely a list person so without ticking something off I can never tie off those mental loose ends.
I could totally see having something like this take hold of me, but it just hasn’t as far as video games are concerned.
I tend to treat books differently, for what it’s worth. I don’t review them or list them, but a book sitting around that I haven’t read is more of a mental loose end for me than a video game is. Not sure why. I also feel obligated to give a book a really good try before finally bouncing off it forever. Like, this is the 4th time I’ve read this book and have never gotten beyond page 700 before. Calling this one done.
I really loved this game but having played it again not too many years ago, it does have several “sins” of the genre like overly cryptic puzzles and pixel hunting.
I don't think the sins were that bad (I've played far worse), I thought it was one of the easier games of the genre. I didn't quite like the ending though, it felt a bit anticlimactic and that the heroes didn't really earn it. It was like they decided to rush the ending and just wrapped it up.
Has anyone played both the original and remastered? I wonder how they compare, I think I may try the remastered version next time around, it had a big impact on me in my youth.
It’s basically the same game just with modern controller support and HD graphics. It looks better. The 3d FMVs look less dated.
Edit: I had Full Throttle in my head. But mostly the same pretty much applies to Gim Fandango. And they made the tank controls optional. It plays like an actual point and click now.
I’ve played both, although it’s been a while since I played it now.
The controls are much better.
The graphics are only mildly improved. The character models are improved but they kept the same pre-rendered backgrounds of the original game, which were all made for old 4:3 screens. So on a widescreen monitor you can either have it stretched or with borders on the left and right.
I think everything else such as the audio is the same.
My partner ran into a weird bug and couldn’t progress further, but Doublefine sent me some save game files to work around the issue. I think those issues have since been fixed.
