tbf, they’d prefer to be that as you described. What happened was many publishers decided they’d make their own deal, and pulled their contracts. Still the same disappointing situation thanks to greed, but it wasn’t really Netflix’s fault.
My question, though: Is the annoyance in the many price tags, or the total price?
Because I imagine if Netflix or NetflixLike had gone their (and the streaming community’s) wish of making every show ever available on one universal app, then I doubt they’d still charge $10 a month for it. They’d have cornered the market for all entertainment; $30 would be an absolute minimum for the lowest ad supported tier.
Am I unique in feeling I won’t find every single show interesting, and I’m only going to subscribe to the services I know I might reasonably watch in a month? I’m trying to understand what solution people wanted, even if that’s “Everything, everywhere, all the time, for $10 a month”.
Under anarchism, whoever holds the most guns and food, and is the most ruthless, holds the power. Try to create a vacuum by destroying government, and someone else will claim it.
It declares itself to be classless, moneyless, and stateless. Just like terrorists call themselves rebels, and dictatorships call themselves democracies.
Ultimately, I’m looking for a lot more than a declaration or wish, a napkin blueprint that reads “This machine grants wishes!”. I’m looking for a proven track record of success.
That’s not the question. The question is “How does one BUILD something that hasn’t been built before?”
No matter how detailed the designs, any project manager can tell you that a plan ends up changing as it hits certain realities, and a system of governance, even for a small country, is going to be many times more complicated than anything most people have ever worked on. We’ve already seen several examples of the results, and they failed spectacularly. You don’t get to look at them and say “They don’t count” or “They’re not TRUE scotsmen.”
I’m not claiming planes cannot exist. I’m saying that (assuming this is pre-wright-brothers) there’s no proof yet (metaphorical) planes can exist, so it’s foolish to criticize our current methods of travel via cars and horses. By deepening the critiques of capitalism (a system I know to have flaws), you’re making the claim “It’s SO stupid to drive from Ohio to New York, when you could FLY” in a world that hasn’t yet established flying is even possible.
It could be that the solution is “Tighten the wing screws a bit more”, or it could be that the screws will always come apart from the tension, and it’s simply a doomed invention. Ultimately, we’d still need a better proof of concept to devote ANY mental energy to it.
we know many aspects of leftist organization absolutely work. We know what parts historically did not, and we also know that these issues are far from necessary for building a leftist structure.
Facts not in evidence. Don’t invent assertions as truth.
You’re arguing that there’s no point in improving the plane and fixing what is broken when we still have cars and horses.
I’m going to expect an apology for deliberately putting words in my mouth. You know very well I didn’t say this.
The Wright brothers did not pull commuters into their untested inventions. If you can test and refine without harming or harassing people, do so; otherwise, keep it to yourself.
Though, this does actually prompt the idea for a different comic where the punchline is that the side you thought was the mirror is actually the real world.
Breathing is also bad; it slowly oxidizes your body and causes you to age.
But if you genuinely want to make a case that breathing is truly hate-worthy, you need to present an alternative; something that has a proven, trustworthy track record that still sustains life. As of yet, I haven’t heard one for capitalism.
But, oh, maybe that debate isn’t what you want in memes. Hence, move it to /politicalmemes.
I’m happy to debate politics. I’m happy to analyze why capitalismbad memes are so stupid and reductionist. The question is whether people are actually willing to engage with that conversation here (they’re not, the OP simply called me a bootlicker and left) and whether commenters/mods are willing to address the inevitable flame wars. (Place your votes, people)
If you stand by ALL of that as being important here specifically, go ahead. Otherwise, there’s a reason people decide to split those topics out.
What alternative is there to getting preachier? I don’t get in people’s faces, but I understand why people do it. For years, they’ve lightly suggested perhaps making things not terrible, and it’s let the far right get away with heinous shit.
What’s the response if someone is making statements like “I think it’s important for everyone to get in politics. For instance, I have listened to Mr. Dobadian many times and think he’s an excellent candidate.” and the first search result for this fictitious person is a speech where he declares; “ALL PEOPLE WITH BROWN EYES NEED TO DROWN IN MUD WATER.”?
Shut down the latter person immediately as racist. But what about the first - the person advocating them? What’s the right way of disrupting their beliefs without “belittling” them?
“Hey, I listened to that Mr. Dobadian and he sounds crazy. I think you should be careful about listening to him.”
“I get that it sounds different for someone indoctrinated by media, but I do think you should give him a chance.”
“No, I mean, he literally said that schoolchildren needed to be blown up.”
“I don’t see value in disingenuously misrepresenting my candidate. I think you’re drawing your own extreme conclusions.”
“Okay, you know what, screw you, you’re just another racist.”
“Wow! Immediate shutdown much? Your kind are so intolerant!”
Or, you could ignore these “secondary echos” of the extremist crazies - which is what lead to people in extremist positions spreading their message and getting elected.
So, which is it? Do you interface with them, and make your beliefs known, or not? Keep in mind, you literally won’t have all the time in the world to dismantle the lack of logic behind every one of them.
I’m kidding there, but maybe you see my point. Just like myself, you’ve set only a small set of options. Either people are evil, or they’re stupid, and no one likes being called either. It’s not plausible to completely avoid either label.
The point about marijuana is unfortunately lost on me. If it’s a reference to some extremist position, I’m afraid I don’t necessarily follow.
I seem to remember one techno-Asian-dystopia book that may have highlighted this, where every week all the major banks have a ceremonial exchange of tons of gold bricks, as a proof to solidify their claims of having money that’s owed/exchanged.
On first point: It’s understandable if the stuff Valve built out was just small library shims to account for functionality Windows games expect. If it’s still designed for gaming and doesn’t impact the user experience, I don’t see that as having the same negatives as Windows addons.
Second one has rung true with my use of the Deck. There are frame spikes and input stalls on Windows machines that, while rare and hard to account for, I don’t notice on the Deck - often making sense only in relation to some background service that isn’t respecting gaming timing.
Third one makes sense to me. Many people on Windows have hit annoyances where they fat-finger the Windows key, and end up in the wrong window while focusing on a game. Having a complete OS boot where the UI focuses on two things: Picking a game, and playing a game, does cut a lot of complications. On Windows, the game overlays on top of the extensive desktop environment, leading to necessary game options around fullscreen mode.
The drivers point I agree with you on; Linux won’t necessarily be easier, especially when it comes to peripherals.
The last point about modification is still going to be true if Lenovo puts out a Linux handheld; in fact it’s a long-understood benefit of Android smartphones too. I like my iPhone but I’m certainly locked off from things like alternate app stores.
I have to admit, this is the dilemma I see; no system - Democracy, Law, Businesses, achieve their goals if a huge number of its participants have ulterior motives. You can’t put 8 people in a room, and give them a “system” where they will move a ball from one side to the other, if 7 of them don’t want to move it.
So while I hate the racists appearing on juries, I’m still not sure I’d use that as a justification against the practice.
I find it cool that in my company’s cultural tolerance / unconscious bias course, they kind of call out how everyone’s going to have their initial struggles of possibly saying the wrong thing, and just accept that it’s a part of learning something new.
If you’re visiting an African family and end up saying something insensitive, you can apologize while still continuing to engage; as long as your hosts are good people they’ll likely accept common flubs as long as you show signs of improvement.
Generally, the value proposition of subscriptions for publishers is the lack of friction for a lot of people.
You’re managing your expenses tightly, which is smart, but I think that’s not as common as you expect. A lot of people might hear about a cool game coming to Game Pass in two months, and for simplicity just decide not to unsubscribe even though they’re not playing it for the next month.
People also make theories that everyone uses the XBLGold promotion trick, but I also think that’s not so common.
Things like buying the console, buying add-on content for games, etc. People have a membership, and want to make more use of it- though MS likely doesn’t mind people keeping it to the basics, since they don’t make huge bank off of singleplayer gamers anyway. I won’t even deny, I’ve bought small microtransaction items in a few games I only access through Game Pass - but I’m sure other people do far more often than me.
When playing game pass, there is a tab in the upper left with eight dots that is used to access the Xbox menu. Problem is, I have an oled and when I play docked it bothers me that it might burn in eventually. Any way to remove this?
There are some browser addons that let you manually apply a certain CSS stylesheet to particular websites. With some work (likely in desktop mode) that could be a way to handle this. However, how would you quit a cloud game in that instance?
Fiction fetishizes the “burn it all down and restart” mentality; but you could stretch imagination to a billion sentient species, even assuming they could ever exist, and I doubt any could make the change and progress humanity has.
It’s not even possible to duplicate the Industrial Revolution before, because the easily accessible fuel is no longer there.
I do not think it’s any easier to get people to do things when the building is on fire. People just become more stressed, and make poorer decisions for self-preservation. While you do see people support each other during disasters like floods, it’s not always the case.
I have no information to add but am writing a response to foster further discussion. Next time, I will include incorrect information so that someone will jump in to correct me.
Something I notice is how comic panels naturally developed the anime rule “Talking is a free action”. In JoJo, a character can fumble a ball, and explain to their teammate that they need to catch it before it hits the ground or the enemy will steal their souls.
In a comic, having a talk bubble during an action shot is very normal, and we don’t think about it too much; it only ends up twisting our view of time when motion is added in an anime adaptation.
The one thing I don’t like about digital payments is that so far, they’ve all been owned/controlled by various major card processors, like Visa. That control really gives those processors a dominant position and basically free money.
When I was in Venice I only tried a Diavolo at a local restaurant. It certainly could be my American expectations but nothing amazed me about it; definitely feel like a bit more could be done to mesh the ingredients. Or, maybe my American brain just craved sweeter, cheesier stuff.
Then again, I went to Germany and the bread there was fantastic compared to America, so unless they boarded the sugar train it feels like there must be something that can be done right with good ingredients.
My favorite is downvoting both sides of a political discussion when both sides have stopped citing interesting arguments/facts, and have devolved to name calling or some variant of “don’t care”.
Sad when it leads to someone failing to find love. Horrifying when it leads to someone becoming harassing and abusive in beliefs that they’re being “persistent”.
This is true for a small category of sites I won’t name, but there’s also lots of sites that have a direct business relationship with the publisher. Ex: greenmangaming, gamersgate.
Blame the gray resellers. If the world courts had found those sites illegal, then devs could likely still set regional prices without having 90% of them getting resold to the outside world.
Are they? I’ll admit, my experience is limited but it’s seemed to me even pistols are a considerable weight, especially compared to other survival/camping supplies.
If Linux was the world’s most popular operating system, it too would have tons of vulnerabilities.
There’s two sides to that statement; one being that increased attention leads to more findings. The second being that in order to become popular, it would need a large set of simplified convenience features aimed for mass consumers; and those are often what lead to vulnerabilities. (Same story pretty much happened with Android)
The age old dichotomy between what is a grossly perverse, voyeuristic effort by the artist, and what is a bold, profound realization by male viewers that it is not, in fact, wildly immature or degrading to say that women do in fact have breasts on their body.
I always picture the Kobyashi world has a large set of dragons living elsewhere away from humans, and have very saddened, anxious feelings about their brethren that hold deep identity issues where they spend 90% of their time shapeshifted into a maid uniform.
The eight main heroes are receiving an alert about the empire starting its invasion, and the hero’s cousin is leading the charge? That scene deserves good VA. It’s dramatic, plot important, and can get you invested in characters.
A farmer is giving you a radiant quest to kill an optional boss? That kind of thing absolutely doesn’t need VA. It even means that people cycling through content can speed-read his introduction, and aren’t forced to listen to horrendous voice acting.
