Diablo 4 and EA Sports FC 24

Project Zomboid. I’m always back to PZ whenever I feel like “gaming”. The continuous flow of mods makes this game better and better every time I open the workshop.

LotRO and DotA2

Spiderman 2. Trying not to hurry through it but it’s tough

Emanuel, in What are you playing this week?

I’m not one to usually play the latest games, but a friend recommended Chants of Sennaar and I’ve finished it in a few days between this and last week.

It’s been a very fun experience and I hesitate to say more because it’s that kind of game that is best to go in blind. Just know that it’s about figuring out language in a point and click adventure game which has some breathtaking architecture, scenario and cultures.

danieljoeblack,

I watched SSS stream the game and kinda wish I wouldn't have watched. Gonna wait a bit so I forget some of the puzzles then check it out. Such a beautiful, and interesting game.

Emanuel,

I assure you it’s very much worth it. If you watched too much of it, then it’s probably best to give it some time before diving into the game, yes.

sleeping dogs , picked it up about 2 weeks ago when it was on sale. I need to finish the year of the snake dlc now. I played through the main stories quick enough. There was a fun fight tournament mission like the movie enter the dragon.

Other than that I’m dipping in and out of super Mario wonder , emulated on deck and I need to get back to metal gear 5 to finish the campaign.

I played Turmoil which is honestly pretty fun but nothing mindblowing.

I‘ve also finished Supraland which is also recommendable but I wished the dev would have actual useful pointers where to go and what to do next, I‘ve been lost walking around for an hour until I just gave up and checked out a guide on where to go multiple times. Especially when you put it down and come back to it a couple weeks later you‘re doomed lol

Shoutout to Lovely Planet which is an entertaining speedrun FPS that doesn‘t look like much but for sure surprised me. Final shoutout to Pineapple on Pizza which is a ten minute f2p game with a wholesome ending

Supraland is great. I intentionally try to avoid going the right way when I play single player games, but in this one, that kept just putting me where I needed to be lol

Manic miners. Basically a remake of the LEGO rock raiders game from 1999. The original was a part of my childhood, and the remake is free, not buggy (unlike the original), and has better graphics. Would definitely recommend.

I absolutely loved A Link Between Worlds and Twilight Princess. I felt ALBW was a bit on the easier side for Zelda games but had enough challenge to remain fun and interesting. Secrets weren’t too hard to find, but instead required just enough effort to make them satisfying to obtain.

Twilight Princess is really incredible and I recommend getting back around to it. The dungeons are highly creative, the art is top notch, and the story is excellent. I played through it for the first time only a couple years ago. I think it has aged quite well.

M500,

In albw, I got frustrated trying to figure out how to get into the desert temple. Haha. I probably would have stuck with it? But I just got a steam deck and was itching to try out some other games.

dirtySourdough,

Ah yeah, I remember having trouble with that one too. Can’t blame you for wanting to use the steam deck! How are you liking it?

M500,

As everyone else says, I love it. I mostly play retro games through emulation, but I had no trouble getting fallout 4 to run on it. It kind of blows my mind thinking about how far integrated graphics have come. I’ll never buy a dedicated GPU again. I am so happy with the steam deck, that this will be the only way I game from now on.

I’ve been playing Factorio… Help

bug, in Revisiting 3D Zelda Games (thoughts)

I’ve tried playing various Zelda games over the years but I’ve just never got into any of them. I’ve just started WWHD and it seems to suffer from the classic Zelda problem of having one very specific solution to a puzzle blocking off all progress, and not telling you at all where that puzzle/solution is if you haven’t already identified it! Also it tempted me with an open ocean of sailing and gave me some side-quest maps to follow, then when I tried to follow them it immediately turned me around and said “you can’t go this way yet”!

maxprime, in Revisiting 3D Zelda Games (thoughts)

I would recommend using a guide for MM, unless that goes against your ideals or something. I tried playing it over and over for years, no, decades, and it wasn’t until I used a guide that I actually enjoyed it. Maybe that makes it a bad game, but the story is incredible and makes it well worth the struggle IMO. Also, Nerrel’s texture pack is quite good, the only texture pack that I used and liked, aside from HUD packs.

Also, don’t forget about Skyward Sword. It was my least favourite of the series (I found it too cheesy) but lots of people swear by it, and it gives a lot of context to the history of Hyrule. I’d recommend emulating the switch version if you can. The game gets less cheesy as you progress, looking back some of the levels I quite enjoyed, especially Lanyaru.

M500,

I should be able to emulate it. I’ve actually never played this one and have heard nothing but bad things about it. I’m not particularly excited about it.

maxprime,

One of the biggest complaints is the Wii Motion Plus not working as intended. It’s fixed in the Switch version which is why I recommended it.

My choices are the following:

  • Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor - Good guitar riffs and it fits the mood of the game
  • Brutal Legend - Lots of music, lots. Ozzy Osbourne is in the game
  • Final Fantasy 8 - I think it had a memorable soundtrack
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - The original radio stations were great in this game.

Some games with soundtracks I particularly enjoyed over the last couple years:

  • A Hat in Time - a cute, fun collect-a-thon platformer with a kickass soundtrack. This one is particularly fun to play and hits nostalgia vibes for the early 3D Mario games.
  • Shantae and the Seven Sirens - 2D platformer with an energetic chiptune-y soundtrack. The game itself is OK, but the soundtrack is what really made this one for me.
  • Paradise Killer - vaporwave inspired surreal murder mystery
  • Subnautica - underwater survival and crafting game with a soundtrack that set the mood very well
  • Demons Roots - 18+ RPGMaker game where you lead a demon uprising to reclaim the surface world, invading country after country freeing slaves as you go. Very dark game that is unusually good for the type of game it is. If you're not put off by the RPGMaker doujin wabi-sabi and are tolerant of adult content in games this one is worth a look. There are some absolute bangers in the soundtrack.
  • Pyre - Lord of the Rings meets 3v3 basketball with a very enjoyable soundtrack by Darren Korb (Bastion).
PrivateNoob,

Actually thank you for the reminder, I forgot about playing Hat in Time entirely. It was a really fun experience.
