kajib, in I'm playing Twilight Princess for the first time since launch.

I hope the game picks up for you! I remember enjoying the game a lot, the items were fun and that final boss was a blast. I also really liked the art style, though I can see why some people didn’t.

I haven’t played it since launch, but I’m really hoping they do a remaster for it soon. I’m surprised they did Skyward Sword before it…

cyberwolfie,

Very much my favorite final boss of the series.

worfamerryman,

They did a remaster for it on the wiiu.

kajib,

Poor Wii U… I had forgotten they had a TP remaster for it. I hope they end up bringing it and the WW remaster to Switch or whatever console is after it.

worfamerryman,

This is why I think the steam deck is the perfect “console” you can basically play anything.

kratoz29, in I'm playing Twilight Princess for the first time since launch.

Enjoy it, I hope this game gets a Switch release someday, the only way to play it in a proper manner is through emulation, or if you have a Wii U you are set…

Also recommend you to visit Majora’s Mask when you have the time, it is truly a hidden gem (maybe not that hidden as of today).

worfamerryman,

I’m playing the hd remaster on cemu. But info have my original wiiu, it’s just in a different country at the moment.

What’s the recommended way to play MM? I only ever played it on the 64, but I’m debating between the n64 app on the switch and the 3ds version through emulation.

kratoz29,

Well, there are some debate about which version of MM is better, I would say 3DS is better but I’m biased because I have only played that version.

I also know about a restoration patch/mod to fix some new annoyances like the swimming mechanics (which were okay to me because I did not know better 😂).

If you talk about were to play it I did on original hardware, but since you are emulating a more powerful game, in with a think a bugless way, then you won’t have any issues with emulating this, on top of that you can improve the graphics, so if you don’t have the hardware I’d say go for it with emulation!

worfamerryman,

Thanks! I’ll have to look into the swimming mechanics thing to see what the deal is.

Im kind of leaning towards n64 rom with high res patch. I guess it will be a less demanding emulator to run than 3ds.

sub_, (edited ) in Mortal Kombat 11 on sale for PS4

Yes, MK11 is a good game, and I don’t really play fighting games (normally i’d just go thru every characters and try out their flashy moves).

But MK11’s story mode is really good. The story is nothing groundbreaking, but it’s really fun and entertaining, and it shuffles the characters you play as, and that’s the strength of the recent Mortal Kombat games over other fighting games.

Also, if you want to save money on fighting games, always wait a year or two, there’s always an ultimate edition with all DLC characters in it, that’s probably selling at half price.

It doesn’t make sense for casual fighting game fans to buy fighting games day one anymore.

LucyLastic,

I’m looking forwards to getting stuck into the story mode this weekend, though I have to wonder if I’ll be able to finish it given how long it’s been since I’ve played anything that needs reflexes, lol

Mostly I got the game to play with my partner, and on that front it’s been excelent so far :-)

That’s a nice idea actually, and it actually gets you to consider your thoughts on a game. Quite often I’ll think back to a game I’ve played before and I can’t remember exactly what it was that I liked/disliked about it - or at the very least I’d struggle to put it into words. Instead I just have a general sense of the ‘feeling’ of that game. Considering the game immediately after finishing it would solidify things in your memory and give you a greater appreciation of it. That in turn may encourage you to play more games in your backlog that you’d disregarded previously.

Let me mention a couple of games I’ve finished recently:

Return of the Obra Dinn definitely stands out as one of the most unique games I’ve played. Clouds, explosions and all the little details of the ship rendered in that dithered pixel art style immediately drew me in. And somehow the game makes the admin of identifying and filling out a book of crew members extremely rewarding. There were some moments near the end of the game where I hit a wall - and it’s good to have a friend who’s completed the game if you want some hints. But for the most part you could make logical claims about each character. Coupled with the amazing voice acting and soundtrack, this is an extremely satisfying and intelligently designed game.

It’s a game that completely flew past me when it released, but I’d subsequently heard great things about Dragon’s Dogma. And having played it, I can see why a lot of people recommend it. The combat feels like Monster Hunter meets Dark Souls - very fluid and responsive, and I love the way you can hire other player’s pawns with varying levels of expertise to assist you. Whilst I did enjoy my time playing this one, it did feel like a very empty world. Throughout the story, I was gearing up for the game to lead me to the next big city but that never happened. The ending was actually very interesting, but it felt like it was missing a larger second act which never happened. I hope that the sequel can make the open world a bit more lively.

I enjoyed what I could manage of Obra Dinn, I really wanted to love it but I think it just got too hard for me, did you make it to the end? My memory is terrible which doesn’t help. It does look fantastic though.

OmegaMouse,
@OmegaMouse@feddit.uk avatar

Yes I did eventually get to the end. I recommend finishing it - if you get really stuck try a hint website like this. I think that can make the experience a bit more enjoyable, as a few of the clues are really obscure.

Along these lines, I think my favourite puzzle game of all time has to be The Witness. Have you played that?

Dogwalker,
@Dogwalker@beehaw.org avatar

Thank you, bookmarked in case I do go back to it! I loved the Witness, Myst vibes. I love that abandoned world feeling like not even abandoned location, but abandoned world. I believe I did use the odd hint for that game too but most of it was just really satisfying to figure out.

OmegaMouse,
@OmegaMouse@feddit.uk avatar

I’ve actually not played any of the Myst games! But I did buy the collection on Humble Bundle recently, so I look forward to giving them a go :)

NightOwl, in Recommend keeping a games diary/blog

Writing down a short summary of what I did does sound like a good way to remember what I did in the game if I put it down for an extended time like a diary. Would be able to just read what I did to get back on track.

Dogwalker,
@Dogwalker@beehaw.org avatar

For sure that is another killer, halfway through but completely forgot what was going on in the game. Give up or start again?

sub_, in Recommend keeping a games diary/blog

I stream games, even though there’s nobody really watching it (lmao, i’m a horrible streamer), but it forces me to plan and play thru my backlog. Unless if the game is just not resonating, or gave me motion sickness, I do get thru most games, or at least significant chunk of them.

By the end of the game, I’d write a short review (i used RankOne due to twitch integration), just to get my feelings about the game out.

Also with this, I rarely buy games on full price unless I really want to, seeing the backlog dampens your urge to buy new stuff.

Dogwalker,
@Dogwalker@beehaw.org avatar

Yeah the cost of living crisis has really helped the backlog not increase!

Lucky for me most of my list is old games, but still feels so good to finally tick off a game after so many years.

@mycus@kbin.social avatar

Kind of a small spoiler, but:

Only thing I have to say about anyone trying Sekiro is: don't worry about dragon rot. It is not a big deal as you first think. Like, at all.

Can you believe that actually put me off of playing it for a year or so?

LordCirais, in Diablo 1 - Follow Up: Just Wanted to Say Thanks

That’s awesome! I’ve started Diablo on my Miyoo mini recently and have really been liking it. It feels good in small bites.

DarkDarkHouse, in Diablo 1 - Seeking Late Game Advice

You need different strategies for different kinds of mobs. Be prepared to equip a bow or level up stone curse to take down ones that are hard to catch or when there are too many casters in one room. Even with a warrior, a few blasts of level 15 chain lightning can soften up big packs of black knights.

Subtex, in Giveaway: Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor GOTY

This was a really cool thing to do. Thanks for sharing with the community!

gibmiser, (edited ) in Diablo 1 - Seeking Late Game Advice

So I don’t remember specifics of the skills or gear I used, but I do remember it being crucial to take advantage of the layout of the levels - doors and choke points.

I assume you did all the side quests?

Edit: that video you posted- I don’t remember it being so hard as it looks in the video. I know I spent a lot of money gambling for better gear

TheSparrowPrince,

Yes, I had been heavily relying on level geometry to limit mobs, but the Hell geometry is much less forgiving. I also did every side quest and 100% of every level leading down to 13. I have the best gear I can find, afford, or use that’s available as a drop or shop item, including Wirt the Peg-Legged Boy’s items, which have never been fruitful / feasible. The difficulty just seems insane

gibmiser,

You might want to just start a new game with the same character. You should be able to rush through the dungeon to a a few levels before where you are stuck and get a few extra level ups. You keep all your spells, gear, inventory, and char level so no real drawback.

And all this makes me wanna play it again…

TheSparrowPrince,

Ah, so you can stack your playthroughs with the same character, at the same difficultly level, without beating the game, and start anew at any time? Nice! I’ll definitely try this.

gibmiser,

Just make sure you are holding anything you dropped in town that you want to keep. It will all dissappear except what you are holding

TheSparrowPrince,

Will the items and gold I store with Gillian the barmaid transfer over too?

EddyNottingham, in What are you playing this week?

Zelda: Oracle of Ages!

(on a Miyoo Mini Plus, and it’s a lovely experience!)

SSUPII, in What are you playing this week?

Playing Canis Canem Edit for the first time. To be honest, I had very high expectations and they didn’t really get fulfilled.

dirtySourdough,

Oof, that’s rough. Is that the one known as Bully elsewhere? What hasn’t been to your liking?

SSUPII,

Yup, that name is for PAL releases only.

I thought it would have been a much more in dept experience, instead I find character interactions very simplistics. I expected for interaction to have actually a bigger impact, when its honestly pretty meaningless especially with my character only knowing a few sentences outside of cutscenes.

Missions or tasks honestly feel more like chores thogheter with the lessons, that I feel like leave you with little time for missions. I completed chemistry and english, and feel like I can finally breath somewhat before completing art and sports. I hate how running from dorm to class you still end up having to dodge the principals because apparently you are late and are wanted for “unjustified absence”.

I honestly also don’t really like my character too. It is prothraied for his real dislike of being pushed around, yet it almost feels like he kneels to the feet of Gary Smith like its really nothing for how trusting he acts. But I am still at the start, and with how Gary acts I feel like this dude is 99.9% going to betray me.

maniclucky, in I’m playing Metroid Prime 2 and am a little stressed about the ammo. Would using an infinite ammo cheat ruin the game?

Very personal. I personally find it less satisfying when I do use those. But I’ll also call a spectre in Lies of P for most boss fights because I don’t want to run this 50 times (I do try it solo a few times before I do that).

Honestly, try it for an hour or two and see if it makes it more or less fun.

M500,

I typically try to avoid cheats in games, but I don’t mind it when the designers made an unpopular choice that generally makes the games less enjoyable.

Based on another comment, I decided not to use cheats for this.
