The definition of Irony.

Ironfist,

It’s like rain on your wedding day, It’s a RICO case when your hair dye wont dry 🎵

MedicPigBabySaver,

Lock him up! Lock him up! Lock him up!

CaptObvious,

Didn’t he also pioneer the “perp walk”? Can we pleeeeease see him and The Cheeto led down the courthouse steps in handcuffs? Pretty please?

doppelgangmember,

Takes one to know one

popemichael,
@popemichael@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

You can’t piss on the American People and tell them it’s rain forever

Common sense will eventually prevail, and the truth is golden.

msage,

Please please pretty please let that be true.

Since, you know, american people are getting shafted for many decades and still nothing.

Pagliacci,

Well, takes one to know one, ya know?

wolfylow,

So a question from a non-American …. How likely is any of this to lead to actual conviction/incarceration?

What’s the feeling in the country? Is this all just likely to be brushed off?

Iwasondigg,

We are in uncharted waters at this point. I don’t think anyone could really answer this question with certainty.

wolfylow,

Fair point!

I’ve been pretty much shocked by a lot of the things that have happened in the last decade or so … kind of like “nobody would ever ever have predicted that, before ….”

Arsecroft,
@Arsecroft@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

If you look at our history, there has always been a sort of club where those involved in wrongdoing end up being shielded from real accountability. There are no other examples of a president being criminally prosecuted for anything.

People say that is because the founders never imagined that a criminal would be elected president, but given the lack of mention of slavery until the 13th amendment I have a feeling that’s not quite the case.

nbafantest,

Most of them, Trumps guilt is almost assured. However if he elected president again, he can pardon himself for his own crimes.

These Georgia charges are very likely to land a conviction, at least on som of them. And as president trump cannot pardon any of these crimes.

I personally doubt we will see any jail time for any of them. Maybe a house arrest or something of that nature.

Trashcanman,

He can only pardon himself from federal charges. Since these are at the state level I believe it would require the governor to pardon him

stopthatgirl7,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

Not in Georgia! The governor can’t pardon people. There’s a special panel that decides pardons.

frezik,

Also, it’s quite possible he’s headed for pre-trial detention, because he’s incapable of keeping his mouth shut. He keeps spouting off attacking the judge and witnesses, and can’t help but release privileged evidence to social media. If so, it’d be all but impossible for him to run a campaign.

wolfylow,

Terrifying that we’re in this state tbh. Those in power really do just get away with it …

onionbaggage,

RICO has minimum jail time of 5 years.

RGB3x3,

Oh man, is that minimum 5 years for each charge? Any more than 10 years and he’ll die in prison.

He should end up in Gen Pop like all the rest of us. No more privilege for the rich.

restingboredface,

House arrest with no internet would be enough for me. Probably the worst punishment trump could get tbh

FuglyDuck,
@FuglyDuck@lemmy.world avatar

Take his golf clubs, his reputation and his adoring crowds.

But let him see the world move on without him.

It’s enough to break a man like trump.

Isthisreddit,

I suppose the fear is we will get a jury, in Georgia, where I suppose there is a high chance to get a MAGA fanatic, and you only need one asshole to sabotage the entire trial. This is always the risk with all jury selections, and the lawyers are very aware of this when they do voir dire

dhork,

I think this one has the potential to stick. Not just because it’s a state charge that can be easily pardoned. But I think it tells a story that even Conservatives in the South can relate to: a bunch of elites from the North storming in and acting like they’re the ones in charge.

afraid_of_zombies,

IANAL

I put conviction for some felony at 99% going to real prison at 1%. There are so much that can go into this. Years of appeals, pardons, arguments for house arrest, etc.

NegentropicBoy,

From en.wikipedia.org/…/Racketeer_Influenced_and_Corru…

"The Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act is a United States federal law that provides for extended criminal penalties and a civil cause of action for acts performed as part of an ongoing criminal organization. "

Blastasaurus,

Oh man that’s funny.

lolcatnip,

Wrong RICO act. Trump was indicted under Georgia’s version.

whiskeypickle,
@whiskeypickle@lemmy.ml avatar

you know what’s really funny? of the 40 counts on the indictment, Trump is charged with 14. Rudy? 15.

lmao

yiliu,

Trump is gonna be pissed that he got eclipsed…

TheCopiedCovenant,

Whenever I hear this man’s name, I must remind everyone of the time in Borat 2 where he began to touch himself after having drinks with (who he believed to be) a young news reporter (happens around 3:30) Gross old crone …

IBNobody,

And she wasn’t even his cousin!

tekchic,

So much schadenfreude right now. It’s about damn time.

downpunxx,
@downpunxx@kbin.social avatar

hahahahahaha, Fulton County Georgia is gonna get and release mug shots on every single one of these motherfuckers, and the court cases are going to be televised, ahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

FuglyDuck,
@FuglyDuck@lemmy.world avatar

I wonder if they’ll sell collections of mugs, with the mugshots on them.

const_void,

They could call it Mug Club.

FuglyDuck,
@FuglyDuck@lemmy.world avatar

*My Mug Club

Feirdro,

Donnie has wet dreams about a televised trial. It’s just another stage to him. He’ll mug the judiciary and the left will draw back in horror and the right will cheer him.

And the legal system will be left even weaker than it was before.

  • GiddyGap,

    Problem is that Trump has support from 40 percent of the US population. Alex Jones did not.

    Trump can literally do everything wrong and it doesn’t matter to his voters at this point. They will vote for him regardless.

    dogslayeggs,

    When he said before the first election that he could murder someone right in the middle of Times Square and get away with it, I thought, “how could anyone vote for such a blow hard asshole?” Now I know he wasn’t bragging, just telling the fucking truth. It’s absolutely insane that he constantly has major scandals and still has the support of so many people. And I don’t get why. He’s extremely unattractive, isn’t particularly well spoken, isn’t a good Christian (not that I care about that, but his voters say they do), never really accomplished anything without failing immediately after, and openly insulted members of the military after lying to skip out on military service (also something his voters say they care about).

    GiddyGap,

    “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters, OK?” Trump remarked at a campaign stop at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa. “It’s, like, incredible.”

    Trainguyrom,

    I live close enough to the boarder with Iowa that I often listen to Iowa radio stations and look at Iowa news for local news. This tracks for Iowa…

    dogslayeggs,

    Dang, I was 2 blocks off from the quote.

    GreenMario,

    These Christians would vote for Literal biblically accurate Satan if he promised to kill off all the liberals.

    afraid_of_zombies,

    , isn’t a good Christian

    Neurology has shown that your opinions are the same as your God’s. It doesn’t matter what some book says, it matters what you feel. Which is why almost no one reads the books of their own faith.

    AssPennies,

    The old(?) Ricola cough drops commercials. They were huge in the '90s, not sure about since then though (I stopped watching tv a little after that period).
