lolcatnip,

Everyone from Seattle loves eating a bag of Dick’s (except vegetarians).

lolcatnip,

I think it’s a offshoot of the shabby chic aesthetic. Expensive stuff made of cheap elements because you’re being sold a certain flavor of minimalism.

lolcatnip,

Fancy a bit of jolly cooperation?

lolcatnip,

Question for the audience: what city do you most associate this style with? For me it’s Seattle, because that’s where I live, and ugh, it’s everywhere.

lolcatnip,

Yeah, I doubt many people mind the decor, just the prices that seem to always come with it.

lolcatnip,

Oh God, I thought that was just a PNW thing because it’s a hop growing region.

lolcatnip,

I’m trying to figure out how you need trig for that. Just the Pythagorean theorem and ratios seem sufficient to me.

lolcatnip,

Right, but why bring theta into it at all? TV screens are as a hypotenuse (a²+b²) with a fixed ratio (a/b=16/9), so you just need to solve for a and b.

lolcatnip,

If it works it works. I just never would have thought to do it that way.

Give Russia’s Frozen Assets to Ukraine Now (www.theatlantic.com)

A majority of Americans and a majority of Congress want to help Ukraine win the war against Russia, and to stop the spread of autocracy into Europe. A majority of people in the European Union and a majority of EU leaders want the same. But small minorities of lawmakers—some inspired by Russian President Vladimir Putin or his...

lolcatnip,

For a show franchise about gay space communism, it’s not very gay at all.

lolcatnip, (edited )

Isn’t that what saltines are for?

Edit: Wait, I read that as peanut butter. Butter is…not gross but not what I do.

lolcatnip,

Everything can be used as a dildo, but many can only be used as a dildo once.

lolcatnip,

Or the gom jabbar from Dune.

lolcatnip,

You don’t kill the golden goose.

lolcatnip,

I challenge you to produce a shed of evidence that Google sells user data.

lolcatnip,

Google is the ad company. They don’t sell their primary business advantage to competitors.

CA bought data from Facebook, not Google.

lolcatnip,

That’s not what selling is. At all. Selling implies that any random person with money has access to data about you.

lolcatnip,

Stole. The NSA steals data from companies like Google. That’s why, for example, everything in data centers and everything sent between them is encrypted.

lolcatnip,

That’s what they’re doing now.

But it has been encrypted for years.

lolcatnip,

Evidence?

lolcatnip,

You think Equifax is buying data from Google? About credit card purchases? Google doesn’t even have access to that kind of data. It’s credit processors and credit bureaus that are selling you out. Credit bureaus openly do what people accuse Google of doing, yet the complaints about selling data are always directed at Google. People running credit bureaus must be laughing their asses off.

lolcatnip,

Generations are as real as genres.

lolcatnip,

People born around 1980 are Xennials or the Oregon Trail generation. We’re kind of a blend of gen X and millennials.

lolcatnip,

Pretty good analogy, IMHO.

lolcatnip,

There’s an xkcd about precisely that observation.

lolcatnip,

If you’ve previously identified one side as consisting of pathological liars, it’s best to ignore whatever they say because the more you hear from them, the more likely you are to accidently believe one of their lies. It takes a lot of vigilance to listen to a bunch of plausibly-true statements without misremembering some of them as being true.

Vulnerable Republicans nervous as 'tone deaf' Supreme Court takes up new abortion case (www.rawstory.com)

The U.S. Supreme Court's decision to take up a case on the abortion pill mifepristone has unnerved Republicans from swing districts. The court's decision last year to overturn Roe v. Wade limited GOP gains in last year's midterm elections and is expected to again play a major role in next year's elec...

lolcatnip,

The Republicans’ only agenda is to hurt people and further enrich the wealthy, and you say the Democrats’ only goal is power? Stopping the Republicans is a worthy goal all by itself.

lolcatnip,

It’s not that Republicans are not responsible for their actions. The issue is they can’t be influenced to be less evil. They’re the Borg, the Daleks, or Sauron’s orc hordes. All we can do with them is try to defeat them.

lolcatnip,

Do people unironically refer to playlists as mixtapes?

lolcatnip,

IMHO you would have been within your rights to yank that guy’s console out of his hands and smash it.

Of course the risk escalating wouldn’t be worth it, but you’d have the moral high ground at least.

lolcatnip,

Strangers who use public spaces absolutely owe other people their consideration. It’s part of the price of admission to a public space. It’s not enforceable in practice but I’d be surprised if a certain level of being inconsiderate is even legal in most public spaces.

lolcatnip, (edited )

You can call the police, but will they actually show up and do anything about it? Where I live they almost certainly will not.

lolcatnip,

Yes? I’m not saying it’s a good idea to actually do it.

lolcatnip,

I just think it’s odd that such a long-outdated term is still in use. Something about it being more specific than “tape” makes it more weird to me.

lolcatnip,

You can at least feel superior to the assholes screwing up public spaces to the rest of us.

lolcatnip,

Look up “Let’s go Brandon”. It’s painfully stupid.

lolcatnip,

I’m sure Mike Johnson will be happy to help!

lolcatnip,

That was happening for me a few days ago. I tried the same prompts again later and it worked fine.

lolcatnip,

Wikipedia says the range was 30-40 yards, and it was a 28-gauge shotgun. Shotguns don’t mess around.

lolcatnip,

Last I checked there was a statutory limit on the size of the court, so the House would have to be involved in raising it.

lolcatnip,

Democrats had the opportunity to enshrine Roe after the 2020 election.

God I am so sick of hearing that. Anything less than a Constitutional amendment would do fuck-all to protect abortion because Republicans would just repeal any law the Democrats passed. How do you not get that? Or are you just a Republican troll trying to demotivate Democrats?

lolcatnip,

Don’t worry about going through my comment history

Ain’t nobody got time for that.

lolcatnip,

Or pi, for a more well known example that falls out of pure math rather than having to be measured. But I guess OP will say circles are a social construct, too.

lolcatnip,

That’s a vastly better critique than just whining about the sample size.

lolcatnip,

Funny, she doesn’t look Klingon.
