Aren’t they supposed to do that though? I had a similar experience recently and was surprised by how supportive my therapist is.

Spaghetti_Hitchens,

Hmmm... maybe? I don't know that they are supposed to give specific personal advice; rather, they are supposed to be supportive of helping patients work through issues to discover their path for themselves.

I am definitely not a doctor and do not consider myself bound by any sort of professional ethical code. So I could be wrong.

Transtronaut,

I mean, if they can tell what’s going on with you and there is a clear solution known to be effective, aren’t they pretty much required to recommend it?

ClaireDeLuna,

I think there’s a difference between telling a therapist “I’m trans” vs “I think I’m trans”

A good therapist imo would lay on the questioning if you used “I think” because at that point it’s too early to encourage hormones or anything beyond that. A good therapist would recommend simple things to try out different forms of gender expression.

“Are you sure?” is the most I’d expect from a therapist if you said you are trans tbh

MossyFeathers, in egg😰😰😰irl

You were supposed to tell me I’m wrong! FUCK.

michaeljo94,

I had that experience and its everything but fun.

MossyFeathers,

Damn, that sucks. Sorry to hear that! D:

Where do the NonBinary genders fall then? Where does Agender fall?

How is this transfem specific? Anyone can wear long colorful socks if that makes them happy.

squirrel,
@squirrel@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

For some people it is, for some people it isn’t. You do you.

FirstMajesticComet,
@FirstMajesticComet@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Yeah I’m just saying I don’t exactly think the “[CW: Assumes Viewer is Transfem]” tag necessarily fits because the thing isn’t transfem specific, I know plenty of Enbies (me included) and Transmascs who enjoy Thigh highs.

x4740N,

For me personally imagining wearing long black or pink socks gives me the feminine feels but I’m in the closet currently and living with parents so I can’t buy them

It will depend on each individual but this meme is for people in the trans community that get those feminine feels from long socks

FirstMajesticComet,
@FirstMajesticComet@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I don’t deny that it will give many people feminine feels, what I meant is it isn’t necessarily women/girl/transfem exclusive, people can enjoy something cute and feminine as a boy (cis or transmasc) or enby (look up femboys or the NB version fembys), which is why I was saying it’s not transfem exclusive and doesn’t really make sense for it to me marked that way, as non-transfem people can do/like things like this as being feminine without identifying as female.

It will depend on each individual but this meme is for people in the trans community that get those feminine feels from long socks

My point exactly, transmascs and enbies (if they identify under trans, some do and some don’t) are sometimes people who get feminine feels from long socks, hence why it doesn’t feel entirely correct for it to be labeled what it is when plenty of non-women can and do enjoy this.

Disclaimer: I am taking “feminine feels” literally as in to describe something that feels feminine, as opposed to ‘something specific to girls’ which feels very incorrect knowing what I know about the separation between gender identity and how people present themselves.

Also, I’m so sorry for you, it sounds awful being stuck in that situation. Hopefully you’ll be able to get out of there and be yourself in the future and actually get to buy some of those long socks.

I don’t get it

squirrel,
@squirrel@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Compression socks are an “old people thing” (not necessarily*, but the association is there). So older trans people can easily buy themselves colorful, thigh-high compression socks and don’t even need to explain why.

*Actually compression jobs are great for people working desk jobs, because they prevent legs/feet from swelling during long hours.

WalrusDragonOnABike,

I got a pair from a hospital, so I have that excuse for that pair...

FirstMajesticComet,
@FirstMajesticComet@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I think it’s about gender stereotypes, the idea that long colorful socks are for girls, otherwise I would say it fits more under the non-specific category.

Lxrduy, in egg🧦irl [CW: Assumes Viewer is Transfem]

God damnit I did that too, can anyone explain why that’s a common thing?

squirrel,
@squirrel@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I think it’s one of those small gender-affirming things that one can do.

Smorty,

What exactly are you talking about?

squirrel,
@squirrel@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

That trans people are often attracted to things which subtly affirm their gender, even when they may not be fully aware of it.

Smorty,

Yes, I did understand that. But what did you do that was gender affirming?

squirrel,
@squirrel@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Wearing thigh-high socks!?

My first distro was Ubuntu(great for beginners but not advanced users), my second was Manjaro(horrible distro, don’t give it a try), my third was Debian(one of the best distros imo) and my actual distro is Arch and i dont plan on switching again. Why i stay with Arch ? because i like the Diy and simple philosophy around it. Linux is the best choice if you don’t require proprietary softwares(because they may be not compatible with Linux). Linux is not more hard than Windows to learn, it’s just a different world(i switched to Linux in December 2022 so it’s very recent).

Good thing is that Linux can support pretty much every hardware regardless how old it is. Bad thing is that Linux Users have it hard in a Windows dominated Landscape which makes transitioning from Windows to Linux quite harrowing. I took the plunge and never looked back. Heck my workflows and games even feel better than ever, it’s glorious thanks to Glorious Eggroll (did that user and developer chose that name on purpose though?)

FirstMajesticComet, in egg🐧irl
@FirstMajesticComet@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Is my hardware too old to start tinkering with OSs?

I don’t know what you have but I’m using an Acer Chromebook from the early days, it’s one of the few ones which had Hard drive bay. I upgraded it to 8GB of ram and it works well enough for web browsing and even Minecraft (lowest render distance running optifine, forget about servers). Also windows wouldn’t run on this thing even if I wanted to, because it doesn’t have proper drivers for it and is way too slow for modern versions to run smoothly anyway.

Generally Linux supports much older hardware than Windows does but if it’s too old you are better off replacing said hardware with something slightly newer. Some old hardware is best suited only for Retro applications such as old-school gaming or running legacy equipment.

Will losing touch with the Windows environment make it more difficult for me to succeed in a Windows-dominated career?

Depends if they require it and how much or why they do. If it’s required then yes, if you can work around it then not necessarily.
