What games do you think would be great if they'd get properly remastered and would be a hit if it was done?

I believe this will mostly affects games which were lacking in technology.

I’d personally LOVE to see The Sims 1 or The Sims 2 re-released with performance and resolution upgrades, and, most importantly, made to be open world. Since they’re older, I believe they could very easily render the entire map like The Sims 3, but with the charm of TS1 or TS2.

I cannot think of other games, since most games I see as adequate, whereas TS1 and TS2 were bound by system performance during their respective times.

averyminya,

I’m surprised no one has said Prey (2006).

In similar vein, the Judge Dredd game would go far with modern polish, they had a lot of cool ideas that got cut.

doctorzeromd,

I played through the whole game a couple months ago after only having the demo (and playing it dozens of times) in high school. Great game.

Hadriscus,

Prey was amazing. It was the golden era of narrative shooters, and that one had cool guns, fresh mechanics (gravity warping…) and wall vulvas. You can’t beat that !

Awful ending though. I mean it was great, but extremely sad. Also, what a cliffhanger that will never be resolved.

raubarno,

I want SimCity 4 that wouldn’t crash. Even better if it was libre.

“Cities VR” comes pretty close and I would highly recommend anyone with a Quest, PCVR2 or Pico to try it (it may also be on Steam)! Not to be confused with “Little Cities” which is also good but more similar to SimCity 1.

chahk,

The upcoming Cities: Skylines 2, aka “the other CS2”, should be good.

F-Zero GX in HD with wide screen support would be amazing. It might even happen since F-Zero 99 seems to be pretty popular.

Put that shit in VR!

Psythik,

If Nintendo actually made a VR system, it would probably be the first system of theirs since the GameCube that didn’t disappoint me. I miss the days when they actually cared about releasing high-performance consoles with the latest in graphics tech.

Sir_Kevin,
@Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Even if Nintendo released a VR headset I doubt it would have the latest graphics tech. It would likely be similar to Quest but with it’s own walled garden. I would love to see that competition in the VR space though. Hi-Tech or not, Nintendo always delivers quality games.

kingofsnake,

For what it’s worth, you can play Dolphin in VR. Use the 3D tv setting, it’s already in widescreen thanks to a hack.

The only catch is that you need to play with a controller.

Sir_Kevin,
@Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Yeah there are a lot of games with “VR” ports or mods that allow for a headset while playing. I feel like if they’re not fully immersive, they don’t cut it. Now if the game supports a steering wheel, petals etc that’s different. But in general, I should be able to use standard VR controllers or hand tracking.

kingofsnake,

Would be nice but I don’t think that it’s going to be a reality. That said, FZero on dolphin could be mapped to a wheel and played well in VR, it would just take some tweaking of the thresholds and tolerances.

CrypticCoffee,

Beat me to it with F-Zero. What a game.

Alchalide,

Probably a better candidate for a remake but I’d really love to see no one lives forever 1&2 remade.

Sid Meier’s Pirates (2004) still holds up shockingly well for a game old enough to drink in most countries but I would absolutely love a remaster that makes the game feel a bit more fleshed out and less of a “capture merchant ship, fight/run from pirate hunters, return to friendly port to resupply/sell loot” routine

Ho_Chi_Chungus,
@Ho_Chi_Chungus@hexbear.net avatar

Oh and if they made Civ 4: 2 I would pay $1,000 for that without thinking. I don’t even know what you would do with it other than make graphics more pretty but I don’t care I want it anyway

boywar3,

Star Wars: Empire at War

Imagine what that game with stable multi-player and updated graphics could do with mods, especially after seeing stuff like Thrawn’s Revenge

Melonpoly,

And improved ai

clayh,

I’d rather get a refreshed Rebellion

DrSleepless,

M.U.L.E. would be awesome on the switch!

corsicanguppy,

We think my favourite uncle died playing m.u.l.e . He loved that game. We’re sad he’s gone, but he would have died pleased.

neo2478,

I’d love to see a modern rendition of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus

doctorzeromd,

Wasn’t there a Shadow of the Colossus remaster a few years ago?

ShoePaste,
@ShoePaste@lemmy.ml avatar

Sure was and it’s fantastic. They redid the controls to a more modern set up too

Blackmist,

Yeah, the original and The Last Guardian had a great feel to them, but Ueda sure had some funny ideas about which way a character should move when you press up.

manastorm,

Myth The Fallen Lord’s Myth II Soulblighter Myth III The Wolf Age

Been hoping these would show up on GOG for a long time. Easily my 3 favorite games. Multiplayer was awesome.

corsicanguppy,

The AI in myth was designed by sanda Dunki, right?

vettnerk,

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stunt_Island

Stunt Island is a plane sim based around the concept of being a stunt pilot in the movie industry. You get specific instructions on how to fly what and where, and you need to pull it off.

My favorite mission was to fly a duck, drop an egg on the police car. Another one was landing a cessna on a street and pulling up to a burger joint.

Or if you didn’t feel like completing these contracts, you could just grab whatever you wanted, and explore the island.

BelieveRevolt,

This was a lot of fun, probably a lot more if you bothered to figure out the scripting system. I just made movies where stuff blew up.

Stunt Island is likely also the first game where it was possible to do machinima.

clayh,

It’s been “coming along nicely” since it was morrowblivion.

Don’t hold your breath.

ArmoredThirteen,

Yeah but there was what, 5-6 years between Oblivion and Skyrim? Skywind has had way more time to bake it’ll be fine, finished release any decade now.

Good news!

bus_factor, (edited )

Haven’t several open source projects already remastered Quake?

BelieveRevolt,

I don’t care if I’m the only one who’d play it, remake Grand Prix Legends.
