brain_in_a_box, to worldnews in U.S. Empire Humiliated at the UN: The World Stands with Palestine!

It’s becoming increasingly obvious everyday that the dominance of the USA empire will have to crumble before the world can start improving.

eluvatar, to worldnews in U.S. Empire Humiliated at the UN: The World Stands with Palestine!

Since when is the US an empire?

Bay_of_Piggies,

Since they had a base in every corner of the globe with multiple outpost territories and a neo-colonial relationship with much of the developing world.

brain_in_a_box,

Realistically it has for most of its history, but it’s real zenith was the post WW2 period.

Pons_Aelius, to worldnews in U.S. Empire Humiliated at the UN: The World Stands with Palestine!

But even with this resolution passed, the UN does not have the ability to enforce their decision.

So the countries that voted either way knew it was an empty gesture that would not change the situation on the ground.

Those that voted against the USA got to appear righteous without having to actually do anything.

Those that voted with the USA reaffirmed their loyalty to the USA without having to actually do anything.

Every UN delegate got paid their wages and got to sleep safely after the vote while achieving nothing.

The USA was not humiliated, it was just another day of improv theatre at the UN.

Did you read it? It primarily sources US provided figures and even states the methods to implement their stated goal in the area is unclear. It also addresses how tensions have been eased between the two countries. What more are you looking for? Regardless, doesn’t journalism by default always have some bias involved?

    mookulator,

Does it really need to push the idea that a new conflict is coming though? The US military moves people around with unclear (public) reasons often.

    GaveUp,

Unclear? I feel like it’s pretty obvious 99% of the times they move people around to raise tensions and intimidate others. The 1% of the times to actually start a war

    freagle,

What are you fucking talking about? The US moves the largest military in the history of the world, replete with nukes, banned munitions, chemical weapons, and a history of killing Innocents by the thousands including killing entire weddings and funerals in an attempt to kill single individuals, because of UNCLEAR reasons?

What the fuck else does it move forces around except for force projection against the global South from which it extracts trillions of dollars of wealth?

Drusas, to worldnews in San Antonio police kill Melissa Perez in her own home during mental health crisis - Liberation News

If police killings of the mentally ill are a systemic issue, then so is SAPD’s record of excessive violence. In 2018, an SAPD officer shot and killed Charles Roundtree Jr., an unarmed Black teenager. In 2016, Antronie Scott was shot and killed by an SAPD officer because the officer claimed he believed Scott was holding a gun; he wasn’t. Marquise Jones was shot in the back by an SAPD officer in 2014 as he was running away from a minor traffic accident. In 2020, Damian Daniels – who was experiencing an episode of PTSD – was shot and killed outside his own home by Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (the county where San Antonio is located) by deputies sent for a mental health check.

That three different officers on scene opened fire speaks to the lie of the “bad apple” narrative. As Perez’s family’s attorney explained, “We are not talking about a rogue officer who just lost his mind or got mad. We’re talking about three officers who thought it was OK to gun this woman down in her own house.” (kens5.com)

The sad factor of the matter is that in the US, unless you are in a gang, the person most likely to shoot you is probably a cop.

Goathound, to worldnews in San Antonio police kill Melissa Perez in her own home during mental health crisis - Liberation News

I had a close family friend shot and killed by SAPD last year. Not surprised to hear this, but damn.

iks, to worldnews in San Antonio police kill Melissa Perez in her own home during mental health crisis - Liberation News

Why they shot with deadly rounds an unarmed person instead of tasing her or shot something not lethal to stun her?

    Skaryon, (edited )

I know it may sound crazy but cops in my country can handle situations like these without shooting or tazing or stunning anybody at all.

    iks,

    Here too

    Hiuhokiguess,

They used to in the US but now it’s a free for all. Want to get some “legal kills”? Be a cop and start blastin…it’ll all work out fine.

American cops are trigger happy, especially with a non-white target. And they know all they have to say is “I feared for my life” to get away with it.

    knatsch,

There is nothing not lethal to shoot, only less lethal.

    RomeCallen,

well why not have some less lethal shit to start?

Caboose12000, to worldnews in San Antonio police kill Melissa Perez in her own home during mental health crisis - Liberation News

man what was going through their heads at that moment? “an unarmed woman has fled to her house and told us not to enter, let’s just fuckin kill her”??? I don’t think anything could ever justify this to be clear but what was even the thought process??? did she walk too close to her own damn window or something??

    somethingsnappy,

Sounds like they only shot 14 rounds (on video), that’s like a warning shot here in dystopia.

    raltoid,

It’s no excuse, but their training is measured in weeks, not years. And it mostly consists of scaring them into thinking everyone who isn’t another cop is a direct and immediate threat to their lives and must be stopped with deadly force.

They are literally taught that everyone have concealed weapons and dream of killing cops.

    Dubious_Fart,

The fact that they actively recruit right wing terrorists doesnt help either.

t3chman, to worldnews in San Antonio police kill Melissa Perez in her own home during mental health crisis - Liberation News

Here's the body cam footage. Warning, it's graphic of course https://youtu.be/Q3exS4fglQY

fubo, to worldnews in San Antonio police kill Melissa Perez in her own home during mental health crisis - Liberation News

The news here is that the three members of the police were charged with murder.

    adhdplantdev,

It’s unfortunate that’s the bar for good news but at least that is good news

    pineapplelover,

Bar so low we can only hope murderers get charged for murder

    Goathound,

Yeap. SAPD shoots and kills a handful of people a year, often times the body cam footage gets posted and nothing gets done. Hopefully things will be different this time, but damn. This is fucked.

    Dubious_Fart,

Yeah. thats the horrible thing about America.

We’re not shocked that police pointlessly killed another innocent person to get their rocks off.

We’re shocked at when they are held accountable for it.
