christ, I got bored and tapped out too soon. it’s fucking unsettling how hard this article tries to dodge around how insane all of this is — how much it normalizes these bad ideas wrapped in worse nationalism on Scott and Microsoft’s part, and how it tries to excuse OpenAI being run and staffed by cultists as them being problematically enthusiastic or whatever
I agree, the article is way too credulous about the people working with and associated with OpenAI and doesn't delve enough early enough into the dangerous weirdness of the organisation or the EA/rationalist crowd that have been leading it.

Either Scott is swimming in an olympic sized pool of AI kool-aid and constantly thinking about how else AI can invade aspects of his personal life or just a normal exec that is willing to cynically spin every aspect of his personal life in service of the grift. It’s probably just the latter.
there’s so much wrong with that story — wealthy folks’ families (that don’t get disowned) have doctors on call and don’t go to the ER for issues that can be solved with medication. also, all the thyroid patients I know are fairly close with their endocrinologist and are utterly paranoid about their meds. maybe this is one of those stories where Scott’s actual mom waiting 30 minutes to see her endo turned, out of convenience for the point he wanted to make, into someone’s theoretical, more relatable mom who can’t afford medical care waiting 7 hours and not getting it
Aw dawg, that’s on me for supposing for a moment that his story had truth to it. I did think it strange that this rich dude’s mum had to go to the ER for something, but decided to apply good faith.
So now it’s even more cynical. Scott, who now lives a life of convenience, doesn’t have any of his own stories to parlay into AI hype, so he has to wear someone else’s suffering as stolen valor.

Pas à ma connaissance. En vrai, personnellement, je préfère généralement le lien d’origine donc j’ai jamais vraiment cherché à utiliser des sites d’archivage.
Et pour compléter mon message précédent, le problème est pas spécifiquement lié à Firefox, mais plutôt au fait que archive.is ne renvoie pas les bonnes informations volontairement au DNS de cloudflare (qui est utilisé par défaut avec Firefox).
Pour moi ce phénomène de théories du complots est un problème depuis plusieurs années et ca s’amplifie encore en stigmatisant voir en manipulant pour orienter les opinions. En gros pour moi les théories du complot est en soi un complot! Et pourtant les théories (où j’ai l’impression n’ont pas de complot à l’origine…) je les trouvent toutes intéressantes, j’y vois toujours du pour et du contre y compris dans les plus improbables mais la plupart sont inventé/exagéré ou raccroché à d’autre pour dénigrer. C’est juste des théories et pourtant ca attise la haine de certains. Il y a aussi les faits avérés qui sont tournés en théorie du complot en associant d’autres choses non avérés. Le pire c’est que je pense que c’est auto entretenu avec certains qui ne peuvent s’empêcher de montrer du doigt quelque chose qui leur paraisse étrange tout en la décrivant/transformant avec leur compréhension, puis ca peu s’étendre du bouche à oreille avec une amplification pour les plus grotesques. Et comme une contagion , ca grandit avec des petits soldats de chaque côté qui se chamaillent sur des points qui ont plus ou moins divergé mais d’origine commune.
J’ai eu un collègue qui ne lisait le monde qu’à travers les théories du complot ça le bouffait mentalement.
Il y avait un vieux fond antisémite par dessus même s’il ne l’explicitait jamais.
Parfois je prennait le temps de lui démonter un truc mais il retombait sur ses certitudes en balançant que c’était sans doute une fausse piste pour détourner l’attention ou encore que les théories farfelues (reptiliens, terre plate etc… ) étaient mise en avant par les médias pour discréditer les vraies mises en lumière de complots…
C’était fatiguant et avec le recul je me dis que je perdai mon temps et qu’il avait besoin d’une aide professionnelle tout en ayant l’espoir que ça lui a donné envie de creuser et qu’il en est sortit…
Tout ça pour dire que oui le conspirationisme est un anathème facile et courament utilisé pour discréditer son adversaire mais que il y a aussi des gens en détresse qui plongent dedans et qui ont besoin de plus qu’un debunk méprisant pour farmer les clics

la plus grosse théorie qu’on a pu voir récemment était autour du COVID et la vaccination. Entre le mix de “Bill Gates nous injecte des nano-machines pour nous contrôler” à “le vaccin n’a pas été suffisamment testé, on nous ment sur les résultats”, ce dernier étant plus crédible, notamment lié à un manque de confiance de nos institutions, mélangé à du fake news sur les conséquences (pb cardiaque chez certaines personnes) qui a amplifié le fait que les gens ne voulaient plus se faire vacciner.
Personnellement, je ne pense pas aimer les spaghettis bolos, je pense que le « flying spaghettis monster » a envahi mon cerveau et qu’il fait en sorte de m’en faire manger.

Si c’est 35% qui croient aux théories du complot, il faut voir le type de théorie. Si c’est “la terre est plate”, ou si c’est “on ne sait pas tout sur les origines du Covid”. Je sais pas si le degré de complotisme est pris en compte ici.
C’est surtout le mauvais nombre. C’est 35% des exprimés, ça tombe à ~20% si tu prends en compte les “ne se prononcent pas”.
Et parmi les théories du complot, il y a le fait que le gouvernement US était au courant des attentats du 9/11. Ce qui, il me semble, est plutôt bien établi. Perso je pense qu’ils ont juste été con et incompétent, pas qu’ils ont laissé faire par calcul politique, mais les deux thèse sont conformes à ce qu’on sait des faits. Je placerais pas cette thèse au même niveau que les autres.
C’est plus proche de 20 qui disent “oui j’y crois” sur la plupart des sujets. Et tu es à 10 sur les complots de type terre plate et pyramides extraterrestres. Ca ne me choque pas tant que ça. Même pour les trucs politiques je m’attendais à pire que ça. Le pire étant le climatosceptisme et ce n’est “que” 27%.

Destiny 1 was so good, too. The gunplay is awesome. But the rest fucking tanked it.
I was also very interested in Sony doing the Last of Us Factions. It was a bunch of fun, unique game modes (with a weird meta "game" on top of it I ignored). All the reports that it was either set back or reworked or whatever because Bungie didn't think it was GaaS-ified enough fucking killed me. Now I don't know if I'll even be interested if it does happen.
Destiny 1 had a cool idea, but you could tell it got chopped up to be resold as DLC later. It was certainly more “finished” as a concept than D2, but after a few DLCs the game was kinda soured. It was basically just quasi-MMO Halo Reach still at that point.
The Dreadnaught, which was my favorite area in D1, was originally the vanilla endgame area. It was planned to be in the game from the beginning. Joe Staten literally had everything all laid out, and Jason Jones banned him from working on it and stole all his ideas, then hacked them all to pieces.
