bionicjoey,

You might even say that the name of the artist is deliberately buried

What is a term to describe expressing one's opinions with links and memes instead of words?

My views on things often differ from those in my social circle. I am often bombarded with article links and videos from people with no words of their own attached. It is very easy to send a link. It takes a bit of effort to form a coherent paragraph expressing a single thought....

2023 Owl of the Year Winner!!! White Faced Scops Owl!!!

With a final score of 125-99, it is clear that White Faced Scops in your choice for the first ever SuperbOwl Owl of the Year! WFS will in the near future be our new community icon, and Snowy, Screech, and Buffy will share the banner. We’ll come up with some good ideas and see what looks best and get that taken care of....

bionicjoey,

That is a superbly owly-looking owl. Well deserved win!

bionicjoey,

I’ve been called a tanky, neolib, fascist, radfem, misogynist, racist, “woke”, republican, Democrat, religious nutjob, and militant athiest over my time on Reddit and I wouldn’t really agree with any of those descriptors lol. People just assume that if you have an even remotely nuanced opinion on a topic then you must belong to the “other side”. I don’t really care most of the time. I know what I believe and I don’t let it be defined by tribalism.

bionicjoey,

More like interactions would play out thusly:

Them: All X is Y

Me: hmm, it may not be helpful to paint with such a broad brush. Sometimes X isn’t Y. (Gives example)

Them: wow, sounds like something a (insert opposing tribe here) would say.

Basically, this

+1 for reviewbrah. His content has only gotten better over the years

Drifloon: steals and murders child

Drifloon: “it’s just a prank bro!”

“Okay, then hand me your phone unlocked and give me as much time as I want to poke around your browser history, files, and photos.”

A killer is found not criminally responsible. The Crown and defence agree the system is broken (www.cbc.ca)

A man who killed an Indigenous mother of three in the Ottawa Valley a year ago has been found not criminally responsible on account of mental disorder. In court, both the Crown and defence stood up to say that the case reflects how Ontario's mental health system is broken.

bionicjoey,

IMO Asylums need to make a comeback in a big way. We need to create state of the art mental healthcare facilities for people who can’t be responsible for integrating into society. When someone’s brain is so broken that they murder another person and don’t even understand what they’ve done because they weren’t on the right meds, that’s society failing them.

bionicjoey,

I’m a 1995 kid and I think of myself as being right at the tail-end of what can reasonably be called a millenial

bionicjoey,

Did you mean “Fuckin’ A” ?

Bone apple teeth moment

bionicjoey,

Even the A hole?

Next Samsung Galaxy Buds to have on-device AI for language translation (www.sammobile.com)

It reportedly has the capability to translate languages in real-time during voice calls, video calls, and face-to-face. The feature is said to be better than language translation on Google’s Pixel Buds as the former doesn’t require an active internet connection.

bionicjoey,

When it turns out that it will gather huge amounts of data and sell it for advertising purposes? Shaka, when the walls fell.

bionicjoey,

I imagine there are many, many more computer scientists than otherwise.

Why do you say that? Is it because you’re counting anyone who develops software as a computer scientist? Because you shouldn’t. Computer science is a specific field that merges math, electronics, and engineering.

bionicjoey,

Okay but even if someone has a degree in computer science, that doesn’t make the software engineering work they do count as being a scientist. I agree there is some overlap, for example if a startup is trying to push some new boundary of computer science itself and is simply selling a product as a way to further that research goal.

bionicjoey,

Apparently they got YouTuber Jablinski games to voice act the panda. Good to see him moving up in the world!

bionicjoey,

When you teach Gowron how to use Microsoft Excel

bionicjoey,

Anti cheat should always be primarily server-side, but devs are lazy

bionicjoey,

That’s true on Windows too, people just accept it there more often since they don’t know better

bionicjoey,

It’s because they want to “embrace, extend, extinguish”

How will we ever get away from plastics when they are ubiquitous for safety

Plastic seals food, sterile medical implements, medicine, beverages, etc… it’s seems like plastic is used as a way to seal things safely. Post pandemic rising, I see even more. My work used to be have plastic utensils in the cafeteria, for example, an already wasteful thing. Now, post-2020, every fork, knife, and spoon is...

bionicjoey,

American cities were designed before cars as well. The difference is that the car and fossil fuel industries lobbied for cities to be completely redesigned around cars in the 50s and 60s. And governments all across the US bulldozed their own cities to do it.

bionicjoey, (edited )

Yes but the highways that connected them to urban and productive areas were made by destroying the old downtowns

Baby kangaroo, baby kangaroo, separate the races, baby kangaroo

bionicjoey,

Pretty sure explaining this to a 5 year old would put you on the SO registry

bionicjoey,

On second thought, let us not to to !risa. 'tis a silly place.

bionicjoey,

Referencing this community (although I’m fully aware the link won’t work)

bionicjoey, (edited )

Yeah that’s the way you’re meant to link communities. I was just being lazy

bionicjoey,

How is Google Play, which is easily circumnavigated with things like F-Droid and APKs, considered a monopoly and the Apple app store isn’t?

bionicjoey,

How exactly does a jury trial work in a case like this? Aren’t juries supposed to be “peers” of the accused? How can a corporation be tried by a jury of its peers?

bionicjoey,

Okay but just the existence of APKs and sideloading means options exist. That doesn’t make a monopoly in my mind

bionicjoey,

Yeah but who are their peers?

bionicjoey,

Obsidian is my fav. It’s not FOSS but it uses a flat folder of plain markdown files so it’s very portable and open.

Notion is decent as well but smells like at some point it will enshittify. If you are okay with the pain of jumping platforms eventually you could give it a shot.

Joplin is FOSS and I’ve heard good things about it but idk where it stacks up against the other two.

bionicjoey,

Fair enough, but it’s not like you should pursue people you don’t find attractive or have any chemistry with. That’s more of a self-red-flag that you need to work on yourself before get out there.

bionicjoey,

We better stop before this thread becomes too Elongated

bionicjoey,

I’m

bionicjoey,

Except I’ve seen people all over the place getting hyped for LNF because those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.

bionicjoey,

In theory it’s to encourage investment in business. Not saying I agree with that argument.
