Is linux good for someone tech illererate.

Now i’ve been considering moving to linux. I don’t have much of a history using a computer and find it tougher to use than my phone. But I also really appreciate the foss movement. I’ve currently got an old laptop running windows 11 I think and it would prolly speed up with linux too. But I’m afraid I’d fuck smth up...

I think it depends on what you plan to use it for.
If it’s just browsing the web or basic usage (email, watching videos, etc.) it’s perfect for a tech illiterate person. You have distros that just work, like Mint, or Pop!_Os (compared to distros like Debian that can require a bit of tinkering, or Arch/Gentoo where you need to tinker a lot more). I’m not certain but I think these distros work well for gaming as well.
If you have specific needs for software like the Adobe suite, Excel or audio/video software, it’s still possible but definitely less accessible.

As far as the difference between Linux and Windows, I’m not sure you’d notice much if you stay at the surface. The main difference is the fact that you actually own your system and you can literally do what you want with it (even irreversibly break it).

Here is the breakdown:

  • chmod is the command to change the mode of the files (-rwxrwxrwx)
  • -R is the recurse flag,
  • a means “all”, you can also have u, g or o (respectively user, group and others) instead.
    • is add (you can remove with -),
  • rw is the permissions (rw of rwx)

I prefer changing permissions this way instead of using absolute values (0777 for instance) as it’s easier to reverse if you made a mistake.

C’est peut être le cas, mais j’entends de plus en plus souvent des termes comme “lobby LGBT” ou “wokisme”. C’est probablement une minorité qui fait du bruit, mais elle fait beaucoup de bruit.

Je pense surtout à la population générale, c’est une minorité de personnes qui crient très fort.
Et dans ces personnes-là il y a effectivement des propriétaires/employés de médias, ce qui amplifie leur voix.

I think the movies are the best adaptation we could have gotten. The books a hard read and most of it wouldn’t translate well to film. All the songs, the long winded dialogs, descriptive parts, the ending, etc. I can understand Christopher Tolkien though, especially since he grew up and old with these stories, and probably nothing would eve do it justice compared to what he imagined his whole life.

Si c’est 35% qui croient aux théories du complot, il faut voir le type de théorie. Si c’est “la terre est plate”, ou si c’est “on ne sait pas tout sur les origines du Covid”. Je sais pas si le degré de complotisme est pris en compte ici.

Avec ma copine on est d’accord sur le fait de ne pas en avoir. Plusieurs raisons:

  • Elle est TDAH et moi TSA, c’est le genre de trait qui peuvent se passer par l’hérédité et ça nous a tous les deux bien pourri la vie
  • Le point précédent rendrait la parentalité beaucoup plus compliquée pour nous (comment gérer un enfant quand toi même tu es en crise)
  • Les raisons propres à ma copine sont toutes un truc en elles-mêmes (complications de grossesse, etc.)
  • La quantité de responsabilités en plus (élever un enfant qui soit un membre “productif” de la société, etc.)
  • Les externalités (coûts pour élever un enfant, si ton enfant a un handicap ou une maladie, si ton enfant se révèle être une ordure, etc.)
  • Mettre au monde un individu en voyant assez clairement que le monde actuel se dirige droit vers une catastrophe, qu’elle soit économique, politique ou climatique.

C’est les principaux points, y en a d’autres mais la liste risque d’être longue.

J’aime toujours autant les gens qui parlent de dictature tout en manifestant ouvertement leur mécontentement du gouvernement. Certains mots ont vraiment perdu leur sens.

On peut absolument parler de dérive vers un régime autoritaire (restriction des libertés, apathie politique, perte de légitimé du gouvernement, séparation des pouvoirs en danger, répression, propagande, etc.) mais on est encore très très loin d’une dictature à proprement parler.
On a encore une opposition politique, une presse relativement libre, des élections, les libertés d’expression, de rassemblement et de mouvement, etc. Tout ça est clairement en danger depuis quelques années mais c’est encore là.

Le souci c’est que ça se vide très vite et que ça met un temps fou à se remplir. Si les sols sont trop secs ou trop artificiels l’eau ne pénètre pas et ruisselle juste. Ça sent pas bon pour l’avenir…
