As someone who comes from a Canadian Muslim family, that’s probably the thing that made me stop watching the show. It was just so over the top in terms of Muslim culture that it just seemed off. The way Islam was brought in to pretty much every discussion, no one actually talks or acts like that, at least no moderates. It’s no different from people of Christian backgrounds who I am sure aren’t talking about being Christian 24/7. It just felt like pandering.

zefiax,

This is exactly how I feel when my American colleagues discuss the weather in Fahrenheit.

zefiax,

I don’t know where it love but downtown is probably some of the most sought after property and desirable locations in Toronto. So you statement is most definitely not applicable to “any city”.

Am I the only one who sees tennis balls more as green than yellow? And no I am not colorblind, it just looks closer to lime green to me then yellow.

zefiax,

Ya the photo is definitely more yellowish but I play tennis regularly and I always see it as green in person.

zefiax,

That’s a thought I’ve always had a well, of we all actually like the same colours. Also could just be how you are raised. I remember calling tennis it green since I was a child and no one disagreed so the colour I see for a tennis ball, my brain sees as more green than yellow. It actually blew my mind when I first realized some people consider that colour to be yellow or at the very least closer to yellow.

zefiax,

Meh, they had to make the changes. The book cycles through characters every few chapters. You can’t make a show without characters people can invest in.

zefiax,

Ya it’s quite good overall. I would recommend.

zefiax,

Agree, best episode so far!

Women working in Antarctica say they were left to fend for themselves against sexual harassers (apnews.com)

The National Science Foundation, the federal agency that oversees the U.S. Antarctic Program, published a report in 2022 in which 59% of women said they’d experienced harassment or assault while on the ice, and 72% of women said such behavior was a problem in Antarctica....

zefiax,

Your downvotes mean you like women undefended and unprotected. that’s kinda sorta a bunch fucked up. please find peace in your lives where you aren’t afraid of guns because you just want to rape unopposed.

LOL. no, it doesnt.

zefiax,

Spend that 8.6m on homeless shelters instead. Or fixing pot holes.

zefiax,

Ya but better than videos showing thousands of innocent dead Iraqi civilians followed by a clip of him saying shame on me.

zefiax,

I find them much easier to carry.

zefiax,

Maybe for you. For me I always found the length annoying. My pockets have width. A phone can be thicker. That’s also the case with a lot of purses.

zefiax,

I am not. Sure my pocket has plenty of depth too but that doesn’t mean i want a giant slab in it when there is plenty of width to spare and my phone can afford to get thicker.

zefiax,

The political spectrum is a circle. Extremists might latch on to different BS but personality types of extremists on all ends are essentially the same. Loud hateful aggressive assholes lacking the intelligence to understand nuance.

zefiax,

Perfect example above of not being able to read or understand nuance.

Yea, that’s more of a self-report on your end if you can’t comprehend nuance and think absolute rejection of classist hierarchy and absolute adherence to classist hierarchy** are the same positions**.

Extremists might latch on to different BS but personality types of extremists on all ends are essentially the same.

If you tried actually reading, you would have noticed how I in fact said the exact opposite. I never claimed they were the same, I specifically mentioned they may latch on to different things/positions. What I said instead was that they had the same personality type.

zefiax,

No actually I am most definitely correct. You are either just too biased to accept it or can’t separate viewpoints from personality types and behaviours.

zefiax,

There we go, perfect example of extremists making discriminatory statements and unable to engage in discussion. I care about politics plenty, I just don’t subscribe to one dimensional propaganda not supported by data.

Protip: attacking everyone who doesn’t share your extremist and hateful views doesn’t really make you look any better or change their mind. But I do get it gives you an outlet to be channel all your hate and blame others when you are just too dumb to understand nuance.

zefiax,

Again you should try learning to read. I never said people on both sides. Most people on either the right or the left aren’t extremist commies or fascists. The extremists minorities on the other hand, one and the same. Intolerant of any other views or criticism. Your comments are a perfect example demonstrating.

zefiax,

I didn’t even say right and left are the same, I specifically mentioned extremists who are a minority on both sides.

zefiax,

Just because you can’t differentiate between what a personality type is and what beliefs and positions are doesn’t mean that statement isn’t true. You just seem to conflate political positions with behaviour itself.

zefiax,

I am not sure what kind of strange bubble you live in but that is objectively not true. Most people on the left are most definitely not communists. You either do not understand what the word communist means, or you live in a very strange bubble or country where everyone on the left is described as a communist.

Communism (from Latin communis, ‘common, universal’)[1][2] is a left-wing to far-left sociopolitical, philosophical, and economic ideology within the socialist movement,[1] whose goal is the creation of a communist society, a socioeconomic order centered around common ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange that allocates products to everyone in the society based on need.

Most people on the left are NOT pushign for common ownership of the means of production and distribution and are most definitely not in support of a centrally planned economy.

This is also the danger of extremist views, they think anyone who does not subscribe to their extremist viewpoint is against them and the enemy when in reality, 90% of the people on the left would not agree with communist ideology which has failed in reality time and again.

zefiax,

That is absolutely not a bad faith interpretation but rather a clear reading of what you have said so far. If you cannot see the similarities in communist and fascist methodologies and execution, both historically and looking at the current climate, you are not assessing it objectively. Both communists and fascists have utilized repression, non democratic governance, torture, and killed millions of civilians who have the audacity to challenge their extremist views. Similarly with this discussion thread being a perfect example, both communists and fascists react negatively to any and all criticism and works hard to brigade and shutdown any discussion that might be contrary to their views.

zefiax,

Half of all people are dumber than the median. I am assuming the mean is actually higher than the median so chances are way more than half of all people are dumber than what people normally think of when they think average.

zefiax,

Laptops are primarily designed with portability in mind. If I wanted a work station I would use one. When you are traveling regularly and carrying a laptop in your backpack, every gram counts.

zefiax,

That’s absolutely not true. It is very difficult to develop lighter and thinner laptops. And the main utility of a laptop is for it to meet my needs while being portable. The portability is the main utility. A laptop like this will meet the utility needs for 99% of the population while giving them what they are looking for from a laptop the most, portability.

zefiax,

It absolutely does matter because for the vast majority of people, the only UI they like using is the one they are used to. So if 87% of teens use iphones as teens, they will do so as adults. This is a huge marketing win for apple.

zefiax,

That analogy would work if toys were ultimately targeted to adults which they are not. A smartphone on the other had is targeted towards adults thus getting a child or teen to have brand loyalty at an early age would ultimately convert to sales as an adult.

zefiax, (edited )

If you ever get the opportunity to, highly recommend going to see it. It’s probably my favorite thing on earth.

zefiax,

Well some of us happen live outside of the US where true centrist options still exist. Additionally, just because the US doesn’t have a centrist part and one side has decided to go full Nazi doesn’t mean you can’t still be centrist. Being a centrist doesn’t mean saying both sides are at fault or finding a position between both sides. It just means your views lie somewhere in between the traditional left and the traditional right in either or both social and economic topics. As an example, I don’t support communism, but that doesn’t mean I dont believe in social safety nets.

zefiax,

Since when is memes an “US” environment? Maybe learn to read and check where you are posting before assuming everyone in this world lives in your country.

zefiax,

The level of idiocy from some people here who can’t seem to think outside the media created brands in the US is just sad. Centrism has an actual definition that is not your extremist media created bs. Go educate yourself.

zefiax,

Lmao extremist propaganda sources 101.

zefiax,

I did none of those things but lmao you extremists are sensitive as fuck. No wonder the echo chamber works so well for you guys.

zefiax,

Calling them articles is a massive reach. Sources and the quality of those sources matter. Just because you get your extremist friends to brigade doesn’t change that fact.

zefiax,

No I refused to engage in them because I do not waste my time with biased extremist sources spouting bullshit and propaganda. I check the quality of the sources I consume information from before doing so.

zefiax,

It’s really hard to give up meat completely for me so I am trying to at least cut back by eating meat only every other day. Hopefully we can just move to lab grown meat that’s not detrimental to the environment so that I can enjoy meat without guilt again.

zefiax,

We have it in Canada. Conservatives hate it and love to point to a small percentage of abuse of the option however it has really helped alleviate stresses for families and people suffering from terminal illness.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 beats Motorola Razr Plus in marathon folding test (www.androidauthority.com)

In Youtuber’s hand-folding test (live stream), the Razr Plus broke after 126,364 folds (hinge gave up after ~44k folds) while the Z Flip survived 273,316 folds (but lost ability to stay fully open after 223,000 folds) and is still going right now in the live stream....

zefiax,

I absolutely love the flip. Much more comfortable in my pocket. And I like the student angles you can have it in for photography, watching videos, or reading.

zefiax,

Do you actually get anxiety from a curved corner or was that just hyperbole?

zefiax,

Lol I really don’t. I am trying to figure out what condition would lead to actual anxiety for something like this.

zefiax,

I don’t know if this is satire or serious.

Of serious, I envy your life. I wish my lifewas privileged enough that I could focus on hating rounded corners as much as you. Lol

zefiax,

Clearly not as privileged as you lol

zefiax,

LOL. Compares round corners to 1984 and then claims to not be a twat. Maybe get out of your moms basement for once and go face the real world.

zefiax,

You are getting heavily down voted but honestly there is some truth to it, just may be phrased less extreme. There are too many people here who are really stuck in their techie bubble and seem to have little to no understanding of what the general population actually wants or likes or needs.
