We were both at a concert, she was on a date with another guy, it wasn’t going well, he stormed off, our mutual friend introduced us, turns out we went to the same college and had never met before. The mutual friend ended up marrying the guy she was on a date with that night.

Braga: ‘I still cringe when I hear it.’ Apparently, it was a long road to the franchise’s most despised title music (www.slashfilm.com)

Working from the oral history in The Five Year Mission: The next 25 years, this is a fascinating deep dive that answers the question “How did a recycled cover of a 1998 song written for Rod Stewart, ‘Where My Heart Will Take Me’ aka ‘Faith of the Heart’ become the title music for Enterprise?”...

vita_man,
@vita_man@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, and that song was even more unbearable (for me)

I live in the US. I use a credit card for all my purchases because not only does it shift liability from my money to the bank’s money, it also pays me a % in the form of cash back and I pay it off in full every month to avoid any interest charges. It’s extremely important that my credit card balance is never higher than my checking and savings combined to ensure I really can pay it off in full.

I agree with the critics scores way more than user scores. Strange New Worlds and Next Generation are wayyy better than Voyager or Enterprise. However, I disagree with the critics in that Voyager is better than The Original Series.

Armchair Expert - interviews with not just actors, musicians, and directors, but also professors, philosophers, authors, etc. The host is very open about his childhood trauma and recovery from addiction. Very interesting intellectual conversations.

Behind the Bastards - really good deep dives into the assholes of our time and prior.

Beach Too Sandy, Water Too Wet - each episode, the hosts (brother and sister) read real reviews on a certain topic or genre and discuss. The reviews are generally hilarious, ridiculous, and/or crazy.

I’ve never seen someone refer to Fahrenheit as American degrees, but it makes sense

I have watched that movie so many times, I can practically watch it in my head. I love everything: the music, the acting, the effects, the story. It’s sooo good, one of those films that really makes you think.

“The things you own end up owning you.”

Excellent. The only thing I would add to this list is maybe a basic first aid kit and towel.

We would have gotten away with it, if it weren’t for you meddlin’ kids

Where do you get your video content nowadays?

On the old site, there were a number of funny video communities with regular posts, for example /r/Unexpected, /r/PublicFreakout, or /r/WhatCouldGoWrong. While there are plenty of memes on Lemmy, we have relatively little video content. Those of you who used to frequent video subs, what have you replaced them with since coming...

I think it’s safe to say they had a file on anyone who was even moderately famous.

You should create a login specifically for lemmy.nsfw, there is a lot more there than you think and it’s definitely growing.

They require a fair amount of effort, but the payoff is well worth it

Looks delicious! How are you making the mashed potatoes that make it such a time consuming and tiring part of the dish?

vita_man,
@vita_man@lemmy.world avatar

That does sound like a lot of work, with a nice payoff

vita_man,

Very impressive. How long did it take to perfect?

What a great stash box! Where do you get odor proof jars that fit so perfectly in the box?

In Today's Cliche Post: How the fuck do I meet new people locally?

Let me set the stage: Newly single dad of a young kid. After COVID-19 I haven’t done much outside of my home and taking care of my kid. I work full time-remote, and between the kiddo and leaving room for a hobby or taking care of the house, it seems like the only other thing I have time for is sleep....

vita_man,
@vita_man@lemmy.world avatar

You should check out Meetup.com. I started a meetup group for people in their 20’s and 30’s in my area who are looking to meet people and do fun things. We go hiking, do trivia, wine festivals, dinner&movie, board games, bowling, etc. It’s how I have met many friends, some of whom I would consider best friends.

vita_man,
@vita_man@lemmy.world avatar

Dutch Treat is definitely my favorite. It is a perfect hybrid that chills me out without putting me to sleep. I have a high sensitivity to different strains, some will give me extreme anxiety (sour diesel) some will give me paranoia (bubblegum kush) and I have never done well with pure indica.

Which particular episode(s) of Star Trek do you find yourself going back to?

Just interested if there’s an episode of a particular series you find yourself going back to? Not necessarily “the best” or your favorite, just one you gravitate toward for a comfort re-watch? Here’s the episodes from each series I find myself re-watching a lot:...

vita_man,
@vita_man@lemmy.world avatar

I love the ‘Darmok’ episode from TNG.

vita_man,
@vita_man@lemmy.world avatar

I get the joke. However, I just want to point out that in the later series, red signified command and someone important. When I wear my Commandar Riker costume, I don’t appreciate the comments about the red shirt and being expendable.

vita_man,
@vita_man@lemmy.world avatar

Haha yes. That may be true there are 2 Rikers, there’s only one Commander Riker.

All the Bioshock games, in my opinion

vita_man,
@vita_man@lemmy.world avatar

When I was 10, we got the Nintendo 64 for Christmas, it came with Super Mario World and my mom also got Goldeneye 64. Fun times were had for many years on that console. I still miss the single joystick.

You need to go into your settings and check the box that says “Show Read Posts.” It’s annoying. I think lemmy should still let you see the posts you create even with that boxed unchecked.

My phone is the first and last thing I look at each day. I use the Eye comfort shield setting (which limits blue light) set to turn on at 9pm and turn off at 6:30am. At 10pm my phone is set to turn brightness down to almost 0%, reminding me to put it down and get some shut eye. These settings have helped me get a decent amount of sleep.

vita_man,
@vita_man@lemmy.world avatar

I do. I watch a lot of YouTube videos, I hate ads and use YouTube music as my primary source of music.

TIL that following the Roman departure from Britain (410 CE), systematic construction of paved highways in the UK did not resume until the early 18th century (en.wikipedia.org)

After the Romans departed, systematic construction of paved highways in the United Kingdom did not resume until the early 18th century. The Roman road network remained the only nationally managed highway system within Britain until the establishment of the Ministry of Transport in the early 20th century.

vita_man,
@vita_man@lemmy.world avatar

That’s a long time to wait for highway construction to complete. Nowadays, we complain when it takes longer than a year.

vita_man,
@vita_man@lemmy.world avatar

This is exactly what I would do.

In March, I upgraded my video card from 1660 to 6750. I am really happy with how much better things look now, especially while gaming.
