So what’s the solution for people like me that live 10 miles from the closest shop, 15 miles from the kids schools and 10 miles to the closest train station and we have no bus services that serve the village?

47_alpha_tango,
@47_alpha_tango@lemmy.zip avatar

Getting two kids 15 miles on a bike will be fun. So would getting a weeks shopping home on one.

People need cars. It’s a fact of life.

Just finished setting up my iPhone 15 Pro Max 256GB Natural Titanium.

I’ve never had an iPhone on release day before and hopefully this one will see a good 3+ years of service.

47_alpha_tango,
@47_alpha_tango@lemmy.zip avatar

It would be nice if it lasts that long but my 12 Pro Max was only 2 years old and the battery health was already down to 81%.

I usually upgrade every 3 models. Less than that and they don’t feel like new phones.

This is one way to finally get rid of Twitter. I wonder if Spez is considering charging for Reddit?

47_alpha_tango,

It the review I agree the most with. Starfield has done one thing very well. It’s got me to finally play No Man’s Sky and I’m loving it.

47_alpha_tango,
@47_alpha_tango@lemmy.zip avatar

It’s a little known fact that if you look up “meh” in the dictionary there is a picture of Starfield.

I haven’t used another browser outside of Safari for almost a decade and I’d never dream of using anything made by Google.

Some people’s expectations are just too damn high. What are you supposed to do? NOT throw grenades into crowds of innocent people? I mean come on.

47_alpha_tango,
@47_alpha_tango@lemmy.zip avatar

So presumably the minimum safe distance is the next planet?

47_alpha_tango,
@47_alpha_tango@lemmy.zip avatar

I’m about 2 hours in and it’s ok. I’m not loving the combat or the constant use of the menus. Obvious I’ll give it more time yet.

47_alpha_tango,
@47_alpha_tango@lemmy.zip avatar

I’m hoping I’ll get used to using the menus all the time. As for the combat the space combat is kind of awesome but the enemies are so spongy even with headshots.

47_alpha_tango,
@47_alpha_tango@lemmy.zip avatar

Well that’s on you. In the MINIMUM requirements it does say “Additional Notes: SSD Required(Solid-state Drive)

Has it been mentioned if you can visit Earth in the game?

They mentioned you can go to a settlement on Mars, so you can visit the Sol system, but Earth hasn’t been mentioned. Either it’s off-limits, like in Elite Dangerous where you need a permit to visit, or it’s heavily altered, perhaps by nuclear war or climate change so they don’t have to recreate all of Earth, or they...

47_alpha_tango,

If you try to visit Earth your Xbox or PC will download Microsoft Flight Simulator and you can then fly your Starfield ship anywhere on Earth.

47_alpha_tango,
@47_alpha_tango@lemmy.zip avatar

I hope it lives up to your expectations. I’ll be playing it next week.

The review embargo lifts at 5pm BST today and some streamers will be streaming it before that time so be aware of spoilers today.

Portal 2
Resident Evil 2 (1998)
Resident Evil (1996)

I don’t expect these three to change anytime soon.

47_alpha_tango,
@47_alpha_tango@lemmy.zip avatar

I’m excited because it looks like the kind of game that will need to remind me to do the actual story missions and not just spend 100 hours exploring planets.

I’m worried because it’s a Bethesda game.

47_alpha_tango,
@47_alpha_tango@lemmy.zip avatar

The game pass versions of first party games are the standard editions. There is usually an upgrade option to get the ultimate edition which will be the difference between the standard edition price and the ultimate edition price. Which for Starfield is £34.99 and that’ll get you early access on September 1st.

It’s also worth noting with early access that if there is a day one patch that usually comes on release day and not on early access release day.

I’m glad you like the idea. As for the security concerns it was mentioned a couple of months ago. You can see the answer from the instance admin here.

I’m sure someone will make one. I would however I’m not really a PC gamer and I’m not up to speed on the latest tech and games on PC. The last gaming PC I built had a GTX 750 TI that was brand new at the time.

Now I only use macOS and I’m sure you know gaming on Mac isn’t exactly ideal.

I think to enjoy TOS you have to put on your 1960’s goggles and remember it wasn’t really considered sexist at the time. The line “I just can’t get used to a woman on the bridge” from The Cage may be considered unacceptable today but not then. Also most shows from that time were campy af. Remember Batman?

Considering the small budget NBC gave them to work with they got a lot of show out of it.

As for skipping seasons 1 & 2 of TNG. You’d be missing some of the greats and some that are essential to longer story arcs. Encounter at Farpoint, Elementary Dear Data, The Neutral Zone, The Measure of a Man, Contagion and of course Q Who.

Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic are some of the only ways to gauge opinion of the masses but yes both have their problems. But with the lack of alternative we have to make do. I did say in the post that they are also open to review bombing but they still rather accurately reflect the opinion you often see from fans online with the newer shows in the bottom half of the list with Discovery plumb last.

PSA: Have you remembered not to overhype yourself?

While excitement and anticipation for a new game are natural, overhyping can be detrimental to the overall experience. When expectations become too inflated, the actual game might struggle to meet them, leading to disappointment among players. Overhyping can create unrealistic assumptions about gameplay, graphics, and features,...

Well it’s a Bethesda game and also an Xbox first party game so it’ll be a miracle if it’s functional at launch, let alone good.

But I’m ready to be surprised.

47_alpha_tango,
@47_alpha_tango@lemmy.zip avatar

Given the quality of Xbox’s recent first party releases I’m not expecting great things from this.

Redfall and Halo Infinite are still very fresh in the mind.

47_alpha_tango,
@47_alpha_tango@lemmy.zip avatar

This is exactly what I was thinking too.

One of many reasons to not go to France.

47_alpha_tango,
@47_alpha_tango@lemmy.zip avatar

I haven’t left the UK since 2010. Don’t really see a reason to.

47_alpha_tango,
@47_alpha_tango@lemmy.zip avatar

France is particularly nasty though.

47_alpha_tango,
@47_alpha_tango@lemmy.zip avatar

Seems a bit short sighted. There are some games, movies and TV shows that simply don’t exist to buy legally or even second hand.

Torrenting is the only way in some instances to preserve content.

47_alpha_tango,
@47_alpha_tango@lemmy.zip avatar

Although she doesn’t seem to mind it.

Good. Epic agreed to Apples terms when they created their developer account only to then decide they no longer wanted to follow the rules.

Hopefully Apple will win at the Supreme Court and Epic will never be allowed back on the App Store.

47_alpha_tango,
@47_alpha_tango@lemmy.zip avatar

I prefer it the way it is now. I only have to give Apple my card details instead of each individual app developer.

One further Galaxy class starship, Admiral Hanson’s ship is noted in the script for Best of Both Worlds but is not named.

USB-C confirmed for the iPhone 15 in new leaked images - Macworld (www.macworld.com)

We’ve known that the iPhone is switching to USB-C for a while now, but there was always a possibility that Apple would stick with Lightning for one more year. Based on the latest leaked images, however, Apple is all-in on USB-C for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models, with USB-C parts for the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, and...

I’m genuinely surprised Apple didn’t opt for the portless option. With wireless charging, wireless iCloud backup and wireless connections to macOS you don’t actually need a port on the phone.

I’ve had a 12 Pro Max for almost 3 years and I’ve have never plugged anything into it.

Mine only gets charged on the dock overnight. I’ve never needed to charge it during the day so it doesn’t get used while charging.
