Yeah I’m thinking of moving more in that direction too

+1 for Logseq & Syncthing

It works really well!

That was really good. Stressful at the beginning, getting into the fights, Sabine still learning, Ahsoka really going at it.

Surprised to see her in the WBW and damn what a cliffhanger

She’s older and matured. She’s realized function over fashion is good too

    I like Logseq. It doesn’t meet your first requirement, where the image is in the title. But I do insert images in-line in my notes. But it has tagging, can be synced with syncthing or whatever application of your choice, and is cross platform.

    That feeling when you're googling the answer to some technical question, and your own Lemmy post appears 4 results down. (lemmy.one)

    Hopefully this kind of content is ok here. Up until recently, when I would be searching for some kind of technical info, the top (and best) results would usually all be Reddit posts. I was very pleasantly surprised to do that this time and find a Lemmy post instead!...

    Pretty cool to start seeing Lemmy posts in search results

    Ideas for self-hosted services

    I’ve had a “home lab server” for a while now, it’s nothing special but I think I can do more with it, I just don’t know what to do with it… I currently use it just for a pihole and (sometimes) a Minecraft server or a web server… I used to also have a nexcloud and a searxng instance (which I will probably bring...

    If you want to keep using Keepass within your LAN. I highly suggest picking up Syncthing. I use it to sync my files between all my devices.

    I can’t say I actually recall. My dad was a software developer and into open source software so I was around a lot of that growing up. Firefox was my first web browser, OpenOffice writer was my first document processor. My dad installed some open source games on an Ubuntu machine for me to play. It was a little bit of everything.

    I did one driving lesson in a manual car, have done plenty of sim racing, and ride a motorcycle.

    So although I might not have a lot of real world experience with a manual transmission in a car, if I was put in one, I don’t think I’d have any problem with it at all

    New features/changes to the Android ecosystem will almost always go against what enthusiasts want.

    First off, I don’t think every single one of Google’s decisions regarding Android is good. Hell I actually think they’ve blundered too many times to count when it comes to bringing new features to Android. That said, for Android to mature further, it really needs to go the “it just works” route that Apple’s been...

    I mean, Google’s nearby share (and the Apple equivalent) are just worse versions than Syncthing.

    We already got a competitor that’s better. Set it up once and it’s done. Regardless if you’re near or not, or have a Google account or not.

    And yet you can feel that all Google wants to do is break the service.

    t0fr,

    Whelp. Guess my mind didn’t even go to that use case. Was just thinking about my personal devices

    I mean it’s not blocked, but if you’re connected to their network, they can still see your traffic if they wanted to.

    t0fr,

    Absolutely. Everyone could use that reminder

    t0fr,
    @t0fr@lemmy.ca avatar

    I mean yes it can be locked. It can all be controlled by the group policy.

    But either way, they can monitor all network traffic going through their network.

    Those who are against iOS and Apple in general, have you tried their devices lately?

    I am dissapointed in my peers. For years I have always been told to stay away from Apple devices and the company in general. However, no one who said that actually used their devices, or used them but not recently (some had like iPhone 4s in the past). Their knowledge was always based on some 3rd hand impressions or internet...

    I’m anti-cloud for many reasons, privacy being one of them. I want access and control of my own files. I use Syncthing to sync my files between all my devices.

    I would be unable to do this on iPhone as access to the file system is extremely locked down on iOS devices.

    t0fr,
    @t0fr@lemmy.ca avatar

    Yes true, sorry.

    I’d be unable to use Syncthing to properly sync my devices on iOS as it is completely locked down. You can’t run a daemon that’s always running on iOS and multiple apps cannot have access to the same files. Each app has their own little sandboxed playground.

    t0fr,
    @t0fr@lemmy.ca avatar

    It’s because it’s not a cloud, it’s direct for sync. When I leave my house, and do not have internet I’ll have access to all my files because they’ve already been saved locally to my phone.

    No cloud puts files onto your local filesystem until you download them to your phone manually. A syncing app will put them there.

    SyncThing - to sync my files between devices and avoid the big corporations cloud (use it for notes, Keepass database, photos, etc)

    Logseq - super advanced note taking with tagging and relationships between notes (all store locally)

    Authpass - opening my Keepass password database on my phone

    GrapheneOS Camera - just to avoid the Google camera app as I have Google Photos disabled on my phone and needrd a good app that doesn’t break when going to view the gallery (since it tries to open Google Photos)

    Simple Gallery - to view my photos on my phone

    Signal - I have it but I have very few friends that use it unfortunately

    AntennaPod - for podcasts, I’m thinking of self hosting a podcast tracker to sync my listening habits across my devices, we’ll see if that happens

    Vinyl Music Player - to play my local mp3 files and playlists (I use MusicBee to manage what I sync to the phone as my mp3 library is quite large, and SyncThing to actually copy stuff over)

    You can set your home instance in the settings. Then at least the links open the communities in your instance.

    Avoids copying and pasting and manually searching at least.

    Following the spirit of spreading across the Fediverse (and because my main instance is down so many times, because diverse reasons) I’m intrigued about the joining instance process, because I honestly don’t know what criteria to have in order to join another one if I ever want to do it....
