runswithjedi,

Those kidney beans are real brats

runswithjedi,

I would opt out but I don’t have a Facebook account.

runswithjedi,

I’m guessing they did this because gestures in third party launchers haven’t been supported for a while, since Android 12 I think. They’ll work but are a bit buggy, like when swiping to go home it takes a full second to be able to tap the screen.

Some manufacturers, like Samsung, have fixed it, but Google hasn’t bothered to fix it in the base release of Android. So Xiaomi had to choose between fixing it, buggy behavior, or disabling it.

runswithjedi,

I like Logseq as an alternative to Obsidian. I’ve seen comparisons and they seem similar, but Logseq is open source.

runswithjedi,

I’ve wanted to try syncthing for a while but haven’t gotten around to it. Is there any difference between it and a cloud service like Google Drive? Or does it use one of those services to do the syncing?

Where do you get your gaming news?

I was wondering where everyone went to get news, reviews, trailers, etc. IGN has always left a bad taste in my mouth with their seemingly bias reviews. I used to go to the gaming, games, Xbox, and a couple other smaller niche subreddits to gather the vast majority of the info. Now I’d like some advice on what others favorite...

runswithjedi,

Usually The Verge or Ars Technica. They’re not dedicated gaming sites by any means, but they cover enough for me. If I want to see gameplay, I watch IGN reviews, but I take their commentary with a grain of salt.

runswithjedi,

I’m no lawyer, but this seems to be pretty clear textbook bribery. I’d be interested in what a lawyer would say about this and if there are any grounds for criminal charges. www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/201

runswithjedi,

If I recall history correctly (i.e., my memory of Pirates of Silicon Valley), MS already had DOS then rushed Windows to market to beat Apple to the punch.

runswithjedi,

history | grep ‘command’

I use this all the time. Even better if you add it as a function.

runswithjedi,

I subscribe to Regal Unlimited. It's ~$20/month plus a ~$0.50 fee when I get a ticket. There's a surcharge for IMAX or 3D tickets, but it's cheaper than the full price.

I've been seeing a movie every Friday for just about my entire adult life and it's saved me a lot of money.

runswithjedi,

It seems like it would be fine to go ahead and start the slow introduction, but I am not a veterinarian so I don't know what effect that would have on either of them.

Perhaps you could call your vet and ask them about it. The office people at my vet have given me great advice over the phone without having to make an appointment.

runswithjedi,

Interesting, I hadn't heard of Calckey. Is Calckey the same thing as Mastodon?

In one of the Android app's listing, I saw a screenshot for a mastodon.social post. Is Calckey and Mastodon kind of like KBin and Lemmy?

runswithjedi,

Looks cool!

runswithjedi,

I’ve heard of more people using Substack these days. When NPR canceled Rough Translation, the host, Gregory Warner, started one. It’s been a nice way to keep up with him and he’ll likely announce where to listen to his next show there.

runswithjedi,

If the instance is federated then the content will live on all the instances that it's federated with. Every single instance would have to go away for the content to disappear.

If anything, Lemmy is way more reliable than Reddit, which is currently controlled by a whiny crybaby making unpredictable decisions.

There are already plenty of support communities generating legitimately helpful information. I expect it to only get better.

runswithjedi,

I usually just buy the exact same shoes when the old ones get holes in the bottom.

runswithjedi,

Yeah, that’s exactly what happened. A lot of hateful people liked Bud Light so when their favorite beer profused inclusivity, they started hating the beer too. I live in the Bible/light beer belt and Bud Light was the top choice of drink for lots of people. Now they hate it.

As for why the reaction has been so strong, LGBTQ+ rights have been a huge topic for conservatives lately. The greater acceptance of people in these groups has been used by conservative politicians and “news” organizations to stir up fear so they could get more votes/views. So when a company started marketing the acceptance that aligned with their campaigns/stories, they could say “see, we told everyone they were coming for you.”
