For Russians “Nazi” or “Fascist” just translates to enemy of Russia, without any understanding of political background. Thats why in Russia you can see neo-nazis cheering “down with facism”

Not only Epic. Line “just use Proton and complain to Steam support if it doesn’t work” is coming more common.

My oldest cat eats anything you leave on the table, except citrus and after that he cleans the stove by licking it. He has a nutrient absorbtion problem, so he just barely keeps above minimum weight.

My former oldest, now deceased cat really liked black olives and would also eat green ones.

random_character_a,
@random_character_a@lemmy.world avatar

Yes and yes. I also use a hefty amount of chili sauces.

I try not to leave anything for them to scavenge, but they still manage to find something.

btw. I have a theory that cats are immune to capsaicin.

Corruption is the moss that gatheres on everything that stays put long enough and is always present.

Invincible, Death Stranding, Gunner Heat PC, Deep Rock Galactic, Trepang^2^.

Starting to approach my limit on FPS games. Maybe transition a bit back on 4X games or base builders.

…and if you have a physical copy with a CD-key you can just activate that game in your Steam library using the CD-key, if the game is available on Steam store.

Well, the 4th was a sequel to deliberately end all future sequels.

“Paradox” is a strong word when you sit on a speck of dust middle of nowhere and can barely see.

random_character_a,
@random_character_a@lemmy.world avatar

And yet. We wouldn’t see ourselves from Alpha Centari unless there was deliberate directed transmission.

There is a very good chance that this is the first truly habitable era in milkyways history and species now active are truly the first in sensible distance.

random_character_a,
@random_character_a@lemmy.world avatar

Well you can find this material usually with “we are the first”-solutions to the Fermi Paradox.

If dust and gas is too hot it can’t form new stars. So star formation has it’s own cycles. Too much new big stars and star formation halts for some time till things cool down. There are plenty of collisions in Milkyways early history that caused a star birth eras when there was very little heavy elements present. There is also probability that milkyway had an active center in early days that kept things nice and sterile.

Reddit was the only service I used. The day my favorite 3rd party app stopped working. I gave them the finger and created a lemmy account and installed Jerboa.

Firmware update bricked dock

Updated my dock to the latest firmware today. It worked fine until I restarted my deck to try and resolve some game streaming issues. After restarting the deck, the dock no longer works. When it is first connected to power, the ethernet lights strobe then go dark. Ethernet isn’t being detected by the deck and neither is the...

random_character_a,
@random_character_a@lemmy.world avatar

Yes. Every reboot seems like a lottery. Hdmi, hdmi audio or USB connected peripherals might not work.

If something is missing, disconnecting dock power and deck connection for a moment and you’ll get a reroll and everything might work.

random_character_a,
@random_character_a@lemmy.world avatar

My problems aren’t necessarily caused by the dock firmware.

I used a cheap dongle I bought from a local supermarket a year ago to connect to my living room TV. It had worked fine in the past, but now I had to boot the deck 4 times to get clean picture and audio.

Culprit is definitely the Steam OS update 3.5.5.

I updated the dock firmware right after that update. It actually failed two times and it only worked after I connected the dock with wire directly instead of decks wifi.

random_character_a,
@random_character_a@lemmy.world avatar

Anyone else having problems with the dock after this update.

  • dock wants to update firmware, but always fails.
  • on second deck reboot dock stopped working at all.
  • disconnecting power and steam deck and rebooting the deck after reconnect returned functionality, but dock didn’t relay audio.
  • repeating previous and full functionality returned.
  • now I don’t dare to update dock firmware.

On steamdeck itself, deck crashed and rebooted after recovering from standby mode with Death Stranding running.

Not enjoying this so far.

random_character_a,
@random_character_a@lemmy.world avatar

Update, if somebody is having same problems…

Just for the hell of it, I connected the steam dock with wire instead of wifi and the firmware update finished successfully. I don’t know how it matters. Deck should be controlling the process and the connection.

Deck is still sometimes unable to detect peripherals connected to the dock including display and it seems random.

Rebooting enough times will eventually give you an instance where everything works.

I’ve been planning to get in to this game for a long time, but haven’t done it, because I got a bit allergic to this game type in the 80’s and early 90’s.

Maybe this a good time.

random_character_a,

I’d make a slight change that nobody I personally know would understand or care to try to understand.

If universe is expanding that means further away something is the faster it moves away from you. At some point that will cross the speed of light. This can be thought as an event horizon.

If expansion of the universe is accelerating it means that this event horizon will eventually start to come closer.

Like event horizon of a black hole this horizon will also radiate Hawking radiation, but inwards.

When the inside volume of this event horizon gets small enough, will the mass energy of the Hawking radiation get strong enough to counteract the expansion of the universe and form a stable bubble that wound produce baryonic matter inside the bubble from the massive energy density that gets released from the event horizons grip.

Could this be analog to big bang type event and can the interaction of the bubble with outside universe give us a sensible model of the early inflation.

Whats the best budget friendly way to transfer vhs tapes

Hiya, pretty much the title. I have a dozen tapes I want to backup before age takes its toll. My basic idea after watching some videos online is to buy a hardware based upscaler that can interface with my vcr then throw that signal to a video capture card and record on my computer. I’ll go with name brands to avoid problems...

Was the HDD -> DVD absolutely necessary? Seems like one extra transcoding for no reason.

Did the HDD have it’s own partition type or video format directly unreadable by PC? Then it’s understandable that one wouldn’t wanna go through all that hassle of making it directly work on PC just for better video quality.

random_character_a,
@random_character_a@lemmy.world avatar

Many manufacturers made them deliberately uncompatible with PC to dodge probable copyright problems.

However they usually didn’t reinvent the wheel and those formats were common, but “sabotaged” by small alterations. Analysing them on a code level would reveal how they were altered and possibilities to fix them.

…but it’s too much hassle for few VHS tapes.

Abandoned Starfield a week ago. Have been and mostly will be playing:

  • Batman: Arkham Knight
  • Death Stranding: Directors Cut

Got them last week on discount.

Meat wave tactics don’t need voluntary compliance. If you don’t go they shoot you, if you try to signal the other side with some gestures they’ll snipe your ass.

Russians march them towards Ukranian positions in Russian uniforms. When Ukranians open fire they’ll know their positions and call artillery, or Ukranians call artillery and soon need to change their artillery positions, because there is a chance Russian have triangulated their positions. After that the main force attacks.

In my age people who still work hard are worse. Busting their asses beyond call of duty to make other people money, in a project nobody remembers afterwards, or even gives anyone any credit.

Makes me tired just looking at it.

Those diseases also work the other way around. Your only small defence would be better hygiene and they would probably think you were somehow wrong in the head for constantly washing youself.

Sorry to say, but I haven’t met a single female who wouldn’t vacate the area if discussion turned to resent science headlines.

random_character_a,
@random_character_a@lemmy.world avatar

Just out of interest. How did you interpret my post that women can’t do science?

Women generally don’t just care. Same with cars and other engineering stuff. Does NOT mean women can’t do technology, nor that there are no female mechanics or engineers.

Cultural thing?

Yes. Grammar is important. Thank you.

I am clearly a retard and should ignore my posts from here on.

Trepang^2^ - Absolute FPS gem

Starfield - Hated it

Brotato - Casual quick game

Dorfromantic - Chill casual quick game

Vampire survivors is in my library and liked it too, but I prefered Brotato. More variation, your selection matter more and no 360 weapons you can overpower.

I get premonitions 5-10s to the future about 1-3 times a year. Totally random, totally useless.

Been writing it off as a some kind of memory glitch, similar to deja vu.

random_character_a,
@random_character_a@lemmy.world avatar

Yes. Now that you mentioned, it was more common when I was young.

It’s less like “having a vision” and more like suddenly remembering the future.

Wireless Z-wave module, door sensors, fire alarm, motion sensors, hidden on/off switch. Raspberry itself works as the camera and has motion detection if needed. Event notices are sent using xmpp.

random_character_a,
@random_character_a@lemmy.world avatar

Raspberry Z-wave module came with rudimentary software, that was just awful. Documentation and debug tools were utter crap and I never want to do that kind of trial and error bs ever again.

I basicly use the software to pass trigger events to linux and handle the timing and remote UI. Linux commandline clients then handle sending messages, capturing images/video and sending captured material to a cloud server.

Software allows remote control through webpage, that you can access either directly in LAN or through an obscure server that uses reverse SSH to get past your firewal.

I blocked the shady SSH connection and only use it directly through my VPN.
