I’m using Kubuntu as my main OS and it has been very stable for me. You can remove snapd and install the deb Firefox repository. You should look up tutorials on how to do it, I did it and nothing broke

I’m rocking a N4000 which is considerably worse

Wow not only the browser but also my ISP flagged this website as a security risk

Looking for a good Linux to install on a slow 2019 machine. Relative beginner with Linux.

Hello! My old laptops hard drive packed it in, so I got a new one and now need to flash drive an operating system on it. I think this is my time to give Linux a proper go. I tried it before for my gaming PC but switched for a cracked Windows key because I was young and not bothered to learn....

Lubuntu is really snappy, you should give it a try

Vim needs to be compiled to 6502 or you need to implememt an x86 emulator (not sure if it could run at all on a CPU that limited)

Why should I use Arch btw if Ubuntu does everything I need? It’s not some locked down os like Windows and I can tweak it however I want

@pewpew@feddit.it avatar

Theese devices support linux out of the box. Try installing a proper linux distro on your phone and good luck finding a graphics driver that is not sotware rendering

Try rotating the screen or using the camera

pewpew,
@pewpew@feddit.it avatar

That’s true, but you can always flash Lineage OS or just stock AOSP if there’s a version for your device

Same, if they are not on my pizza or not on my pasta I won’t eat them

That name is already taken by that distro

help: var folder on ubuntu won't stop filling up

I’ve had an Ubuntu 22.04 setup going for around a year, and over that year I’ve had to increase the size of the partition holding my /var folder multiple times. I’m now up to 20GB and again running into problems, mainly installing new apps, because that partition is again nearly full. I’ve used commands sudo apt clean...

I had the same problem on my PC. Journald was spamming PCI errors all the time and the disk was filling up quite quickly. I ended up disabling journald and rsyslogd and the problem was fixed. You can delete the log files, if you find them

pewpew,
@pewpew@feddit.it avatar

It’s probably because it uses Java, which isn’t known for its speed

pewpew,
@pewpew@feddit.it avatar

Yes, Linux (maybe it’s just an Ubuntu problem) does not run well in Virtual box. I could get it to boot 1/10 times and was quite unstable. But that was two years ago, maybe things have changed

pewpew,
@pewpew@feddit.it avatar

It’s a very long image, it’s from !memes

pewpew,
@pewpew@feddit.it avatar

It’s probably due to the limited amount of RAM in my phone, but other clients will display the image just fine

pewpew,

Yes but Liftoff is usable on low end devices

Intalling a de-googled android ROM on my phone was the best decision ever

You should check out the MicroG project, it can replace Google play services but it requires some hacking with Xposed modules. I got GMail working with it
