Sometimes I’m at the doctor’s office, at the library, or even at the grocery store and see an unused power outlet. My phone is dying. I feel weird plugging in, but I feel even weirder asking for permission.
In honor of communities throughout the Fediverse, @BestOf will be highlighting communities that distinguish themselves from others with the quality and value they bring to the Fediverse....
I'm old now. I've finally realised I get more enjoyment from watching someone play than to actually play the game. Why is that? Do you experience that as well?
In a post regarding climate change I called another user an “Ignorant Slut” like that line from the Office. Anyways got permanently banned site wide and I just can’t help but wonder if that was necessary....
I have some quibbles with this article (and some eye rolls), but looking past that there are a couple of pull aspects that I think hit on some VERY IMPORTANT concepts, especially for the #fediverse going forward.
I also think that this is a pretty typical feeling or experience for a lot of people as they move off of #reddit and #twitter, and that's important too.
As Lemmy starts maturing, there starts being so many communities out there that it’s pretty hard to keep track. I’ve been browsing for about a month now, here’s a list of popular communities I’ve subscribed to that others would find interesting!...
As off-topic discussions are generally discouraged, we have decided to establish Monday threads for meta discussions. Under this thread, you may discuss about the earlier discussions, the direction this community is going, moderation, etc....
I’m a Reddit refugee who was on that platform for 10+ years. I saw not just a tremendous amount of controversies, but attempts at introducing alternatives to Reddit during all of them. The 2015 blackout saw a ton of alternatives suggested, and if you go back and look at them many have either not survived or never achieved...
Think about things from the point of view of someone who has never used Reddit or the fediverse, but you've heard about them both from recent news articles and want to see what they are about....
m/dance was created very recently on kbin.social and has only a few posts. Still, if I search for its URL on lemmy.world it is visible and I can subscribe, though I can't see any of the posts: https://lemmy.world/c/[email protected]...
I also noticed that any moderation doesn't transfer between instances. I moderate @BestOf. I did remove one post for being irrelevant with the spirit of the community and it's still there on Lemmy. I hope this is something that can be fixed.
As the Fediverse expands, the best content may become dispersed. This community will collect the most insightful posts and comments found on the Fediverse! We already have a healthy base and collection of best posts on the Fediverse.
It’s one thing to have differing views, but I’ve seen enough attempted reddit migrations to be relieved that the popular communities in the fediverse so far haven’t been about crazy racist stuff or other extreme right bullshit....
You are entirely in control of what you say.. but it sounds like what you meant is not in line with what you're saying.
Do you deliberately want to belittle people with developmental issues? It doesn't sound like it. I think what @Dr_Cog is trying to say is that you should consider lining up the words you use with the message you're actually trying to convey.
I think the problem with your opinion is that it conveys that you believe children are being throw into surgery rooms and given sex transitions loosely and without thought to the consequences.
I think your real opinion is that you believe children shouldn't be given unnecessary surgeries. If that is true, the large majority of the population would agree with you.
In addition, have you explored what Doctors believe is a necessary sex transition for a child? What are those parameters? If you don't know, then I would consider your original stance to be of ignorance. Since you really never dive into the subject, most people will assume that you haven't explored those parameters and don't understand the reasoning behind them. That is why you're facing aggression with your opinion.
If you click on the "more" button under a comment or link there will be an activity tab. In this tab you can see everyone who has boosted, favourited or reduced the post. I'm not sure if this a...
I've had some time to think about it and I think I actually like the current setup. "Boost" provides more visibility to a post, while "upvote" and "downvote" is synonymous with agree/disagree.
In a way, I can disagree with someone AND boost it. Disagreeing with someone doesn't have to be hostile. I think it would be healthy if a community could disagree with each other in a civil manner.
I also like that if someone disagrees, that person cannot influence if the post gets less visibility.
At first it was all about presenting data in an original looking way. In the end it was about pushing political ideas in your throat using a plain bar graph. It was not about sharing something interesting you found but about taking advantage of a captive audience.
Why does anyone need a 'men's space'? I'm a man but I just would not be interested in that specifically. This is the Internet and there's a space for everything specifically. Sounds like a 'men's space' or a 'women's space' are bound to be filled with intolerance for the other genders.
When first logged into kbin, I noticed a lot of important communities were missing so I created a few in hopes of putting them in the right hands when things took off. I'm at about that point where I'm ready to give some because there's no way I can manage 5+ at the same time....

I created /m/BestOf on kbin to kind of avoid having multiple instances of all. I wonder why other communities don't try to represent all of the Fediverse instead of just their instances..?
