Pretty sure it’s already against the law in Illinois. You can’t film anyone without their consent.

My building’s management was threatening illegal shit to me. I asked if I could record the conversation for my records; manager smiled and said no, that’s against the law.

She was managing a building for severely mentally ill individuals. And was doing horrible things. She threatened me because I called her out on Facebook for not treating bed bugs in the residence of a vulnerable, unnamed individual. Lmao. Said I was violating HIPAA and she would have me arrested. I emailed her the law that states that HIPAA only applies to employees <3

So glad I got out of there. They were massive dicks and were constantly threatening to evict me. While other residents were violent and RACIST (most of the residents were black, they had a white resident that called a CHILD the n word) and they weren’t evicted. I hate this planet.

I think I asked to record a conversation with some cops and I was told no then, too. I was complaining that my upstairs neighbor had been screaming for six hours straight and had been slamming and breaking things. At night.

They asked why I was cursing and being aggressive towards them (I literally just said it was fucking loud or something) and they told me I should be more sympathetic towards her because she has a mental illness. Okay. She also has a criminal history and she came at me with a knife. She was acting up because she was drunk and part of our lease was no alcohol usage on the property or we’d be evicted immediately. Manager did find a beer can of hers and she was still living there. She nearly destroyed her apartment and mine by flooding it and then refusing to use the fans because she didn’t like it (note that I had the fans on too and I’m autistic so I’m sensitive to loud noise). Point is, there’s mental illness and there’s being a scumbag. She refused treatment too and I’m pretty sure treatment was another condition of living there. They wouldn’t evict anyone for anything serious, but when I slandered them I was threatened with eviction and arrest.

if you’re using android, mull is supposed to be the good privacy fork of firefox

i think it has ad-blocking but i do ad blocking through my router anyway, so idk for sure

okbin,
@okbin@kbin.social avatar

there are a small amount of websites that don’t work properly on firefox… when my phone was being repaired i couldn’t pay my rent on anything that wasn’t chrome >_>

okbin,
@okbin@kbin.social avatar

there are firefox forks that might be safer? tor (overkill?), mullvad browser, and librewolf

if you use macos, there’s also orion

okbin,
@okbin@kbin.social avatar

reddit bros recommend brave, chad fedi users recommend firefox (and its forks)

okbin,

unless this is a known upcoming issue, i rarely have any issues using firefox

i was wondering that myself! my guess would be ungoogled chromium…

Looking forward to being able to use it once it’s my turn :)

Possibly a stupid question as I don’t know anything about making an app or APIs - since Artemis doesn’t use kbin’s API yet, can you still post comments through Artemis? Or is it read-only for now?

dark developers give me the forbidden kbin apps

📢Entire mod team on r/mildlyinteresting (and more subs) removed and locked out of their accounts after changing their rules upon community's request. (They're also switching subs BACK to SFW) (kbin.social)

EDIT: GO DM MODS OF YOUR FAVORITE SUBREDDITS AND POLITELY ASK ABOUT MIGRATION!: something as simple as "Hey, I love this community but I no longer use reddit, will you guys be making a community on Kbin or other alternatives? Let me know please, thanks." will work!! We need more voices encouraging migration!...

okbin,
@okbin@kbin.social avatar

they won't

i tried to move my 100k subscriber sub to kbin (i also offered two different chatrooms)

6 came to kbin and people started attacking me for having the sub closed (one person even resorted to transphobia like jesus fucking christ) and being "political" and one person even made their own version of my subreddit

moving is too much work (it's actually not that much work, but since we now need two videos playing at the same time and can only watch those vids for 30 seconds, everything is "too much work"). that's why people are still on facebook, twitter, instagram, and tiktok.

i'm very glad there's an acceptable amount of activity on the "threadiverse" right now... but i just don't have hope that everyone will leave.

okbin,
@okbin@kbin.social avatar

nope. BPDmemes... which is just fucking sad because BPD is associated with identity issues including gender identity, so in some sense being transphobic can be ableist in that context as well.

i'm letting it go, they were probably just really dysregulated (as is the nature of this illness). but i did ban them for all of pride month.

however, my friend and i HAVE seen transphobia in the owl house community and we don't understand?????? there are literally multiple trans characters on the show like why would you be transphobic if you're a fan you. walnut

this might seem silly, but - while the lag is frustrating - it kinda reminds me of the old internet and it's weirdly nostalgic for me? lmao

okbin,
@okbin@kbin.social avatar

ye

i've caved a few times today, briefly. and i'm frustrated because reddit is basically google for me. i go to it for a lot of info. the fediverse can't do that just yet. if it becomes popular it will, but yeah. not yet.

and it's good for random info too. like even when i'm not looking for anything. i'm already subscribed to topics i care about. so i will see relevant things.

other sites aren't really fulfilling that for me right now.

okbin,
@okbin@kbin.social avatar

i saw your username and thought this was posted to m/trash and i was like "that's such a nice keyboard, rude"
