Looking to dip my toes into Linux for the first time. I have a 2016 Intel MacBook Pro with pretty solid specs collecting dust right now that I think I’m going to use. Research so far has indicated to me that the two best options for me are likely Mint or Elementary OS. Does anyone have any insight? Also open to other OS’s. I would consider myself decently tech savvy but I am not a programmer or anything. Comfortable dipping into the terminal when the need arises and all that.
Perhaps Arch Linux? Maybe a bit too much for a toe dip though, I wouldn’t know. You’ll likely run into driver issues (wifi, audio and apple specific hardware) and Arch ostensibly has the latest drivers. Will happily be corrected though, I’ve been languishing on Ubuntu and haven’t had to fix anything in years.
So I’ve been using youtube ad blockers since pretty much when ad blocker extensions were first available. Lately though I’ve been getting hit more and more with these messages that YT was sending out every 5 or so videos telling me that adblockers aren’t allowed. No problem, just gotta wait 5 seconds to x it out and then...
I use NoScript to block every script from google except for ytimg and youtube and I haven’t seen anything like that; though, I do only watch 1-2 videos at a time, maybe I haven’t ‘triggered’ it.
I can even disable origin and still not see any ads because NoScript blocks them from loading in the first place.
I’m not sure how accurate StatCounter is, given that most Linux users use adblockers. However, according to it, Linux has almost a 14% desktop share in India.
It was either support Israel, or lose access to their weapons. I’m sure if Palestine was the oppressor with military superiority, he would support them. Of course, whether or not he personally supports Israel’s regime is unknown to us, but we do know he needs their weapons.
TL;DR: Reddit is removing the option to opt out of ad personalization, targeting ads based on user activity. Some specific ad categories can still be limited, but there’s no more opt-out option.

I’ve lost everything and I don’t know how to get it back. How can I repair my system all I have is a usb with slax linux. I am freaking out because I had a lot of projects on their that I hadn’t pushed to github as well as my configs and rice. Is there any way to repair my system? Can I get a shell from systemd?
Same, though I did try to chroot. Totally failed though. Luckily I had backups, which I learned never backed up properly.
The lessons I learned were to never trust a GUI and always make sure your backups are viable. I still have a copy of a duplicity backup form ~2020 that I hope one day to recover, if anythings in it.
