jettrscga,

That’s a really interesting list.

I’m surprised how many are presumed to be stress when so many people show the same symptoms.

My guess for a lot would be social, herd mentality. That probably lines up with your boredom idea too.

jettrscga,

For the sake of this exercise we’ll consider skeletons rounded to whole integers. And air resistance may be ignored.

jettrscga,

Paint says it’s R17 G159 B168. About even blue and green.

jettrscga,

Then no one looks at the report until the next Friday and then they ask for urgent changes.

jettrscga,

I think it’s beautiful as an art piece. A perfect testament to a rich manchild’s inability to be told “no”.

And now people get to drive around in this embodiment of hubris.

jettrscga,

There’s gotta be an inside man.

jettrscga,

Canada’s metric. Close enough in much the same way that beef is vegetarian because cows eat grass.

jettrscga,

I can improve your method to 6 out of 7 accuracy with absolutely no effort.

jettrscga,

That’s fair, but wouldn’t the more practical conclusion be that we abbreviate long words since that’s the whole goal of abbreviation?

We also abbreviate short ones I suppose, like “to” to 2 and “with” to “w/”. Really, we just abbreviate things.

jettrscga,

Just here to say Omelette du fromage.

jettrscga,

But that’s an example of developers choosing graphics over gameplay. The gameplay experience is worse if the game stutters.

jettrscga,

I’m on board to argue. Saying every other day and then 5 days a week is incredibly triggering.

jettrscga,

And in Cities Skyline you can just pause time, delete and fix a bunch of shit, and continue. Instant and nobody complains that you just bulldozed their house.

I think highways would look nicer if real city planners had the ability to redesign everything vs add on pieces over time.

jettrscga,

I call bullshit. It’s not physically possible to be at that scene with a full pizza.

jettrscga,

$3.10 minimum wage in 1980. Equivalent to ~$11.50 per hour today, higher than today’s minimum wage.

jettrscga,

Failing to comply with the act’s rules could land companies with fines of up to £18 million (around $22 million), or 10 percent of their global annual turnover (whichever is higher), and their bosses could even face prison.

I’m curious how they intend to enforce this on companies that aren’t located in the UK.

jettrscga,

Dungeons and Dragons is literally just a Skyrim knockoff that uses dice.

jettrscga,

Look at this geezer, he’s at least 6!

jettrscga,

This sounds like a $20 The Sims DLC.

jettrscga,

You can’t zipper merge when you’re unable to move forward after waiting until the last second and being pressed up against the road closure.

Having to turn nearly 90 degrees to get to the other lane tends to slow down the zippering.

jettrscga,

I’m not saying anyone should drive up to the wall and try to turn 90 degrees. I’m saying that’s what people do, in the US at least. It just happens and it creates traffic.

jettrscga, (edited )

The reason it feels wrong is that “are” is the main verb in the sentence and shouldn’t be contracted. You are only supposed to contract auxiliary verbs like “you’re eating already” where eating is the main verb and are is auxiliary.

Edit: (I used a bad example because “eating” is a noun, as pointed out below.)

Un-edit: The example’s correct, “eating” is a verb in this context.

Also, I’m thoroughly confused about who’s saying “you’re already” in this comic.

jettrscga,

Good point, thanks I removed the “eating” example. That’s what I get for commenting in the morning.

jettrscga, (edited )

Sigh I think you’re right. It’s the progressive form of the verb.

That’s been throwing me off all day. Thanks for confirming. Grammar is confusing.

jettrscga,

That sounds like a good thing! I’ve replayed through it at least 3 times over the years.

Goodbye Youtube and thanks for all the fish (infosec.pub)

Youtube let the other shoe drop in their end-stage enshittification this week. Last month, they required you to turn on Youtube History to view the feed of youtube videos recommendations. That seems reasonable, so I did it. But I delete my history every 1 week instead of every 3 months. So they don’t get much from my choices....

jettrscga,

When you put it like that… That’s like saying stores are a scam because you could just take the products for free.

jettrscga,

Instead of leaving and physically exercising, is it acceptable to shout incoherently back at the cats?

jettrscga,

If it makes you feel better, I wish I had a fraction of the confidence that you had 33 years ago.

jettrscga,

They also mentioned 1998 and Hell In A Cell. I’m thinking they were full of shit.

jettrscga,

Yeah but do you know how long it takes to animate another corpse? Especially when you have a perfectly malleable one at home. It’s just not practical for the modern political necromancer.

jettrscga,

MMOs don’t feel practical these days with so many games to play. Who has that much time to dedicate to one game?

I’m not sure if the game market has changed, or just my perspective of time. Probably both.

jettrscga,

And you get to say “just like in the simulations” when you really do those things.

jettrscga,

I’m on Lemmy and I’ll be honest, I’m still looking for better content here.

There are old memes, comics, Linux memes, and that’s about it. If I filter for my subscribed stuff, I get nothing new for 12 hours.

But I’m still not going back to Reddit after fucking over third party apps.

jettrscga,

I’m glad you said this. I was really confused by the meme stock phase.

As a consumer, they never felt like a great company to deal with. They were just convenient being located nearby. Trade-ins always felt like cons.

jettrscga,

Locke and Key had the premise that only kids could remember magic.

Kids Next Door is all about kids good, adults evil.

jettrscga,

God damn, Cruz will molest talking points into a sentence by any means necessary. It’s like he rolls dice each morning to decide which random words he has to slap together.

Drag shows are literally banning gas stoves through an Antifa deep state Obamacare abortion.

I've been blocking ads for so long that actually seeing them feels perverse

I use ad blockers and open source privacy focused software whenever I can but occasionally I have to use computers that don’t belong to me or an older phone where my usual applications aren’t installed and seeing all the advertisements just feels dirty and dystopian....

jettrscga,

I’ve heard that actual football action is about 11 minutes. And yet football broadcasts lasts hours.

jettrscga,

You who are so wise in the ways of pig fiction: how does a wolf blow when it has no lips?

Why are people hyped about RSS regaining relevance? (lemmy.world)

According to Google Trends, during the past few years, there has been nothing but a few minor bumps that faded away as quickly as they came. I love RSS because i do not have to scroll through dozens of different news sites all day and i would love it to return....

jettrscga,

There’s still an algorithm and “like” system in that scenario: clicks. The news providers generate more content based on what was clicked most.

Some sites are more objective in what they report on, but there’s still going to be biases in what you’re fed.

In that regard, I’m not sure how different subscribing to certain communities is from subscribing to certain news outlets.

jettrscga,

If this was kickstarted 10 years ago, Smartwatches weren’t nearly as prevalent back then.

jettrscga,

I still have to google search reddit when I’m looking for specific info like opinions on games. Unfortunately lemmy’s not reasonable to search, and Reddit has a much bigger userbase with a longer time to accumulate info about most topics.

jettrscga,

I felt that the protagonist in The Martian and Project Hail Mary were way too similar - both loveable science goofs making jokes while doing unreasonable math on napkins. But maybe that’s the right formula to keep the science interesting for the reader.

The stories were different enough, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that Mark Watney was on this new mission.

jettrscga,

If the wind gets even slightly playful, that mist is right in my face.

SHOWER GANG

jettrscga,

Yeah the entire article smells like gold plated HDMI cables from Monster, as if that somehow improves the quality of digital signals.

Sony has judiciously used gold across the internals of the NW-ZX707, including its solder and reflow solder elements, to further improve sound localization.

Gold has a higher resistivity than copper. Resistance adds noise. It’s probably just for corrosion resistance.

Another reason audiophiles have come to appreciate the NW-ZX707 is something called the vinyl processor that lends the unmistakable character of vinyl discs back to their digital tracks.

So they further distort the sound to replicate lower quality equipment? They’re definitely not making it sound more like the original by introducing vinyl artifacts.

This is some serious hobbyist pricing bait, but I can’t judge since I’ve got my own dumb expensive hobbies.
