I really think y’all should just let that one marinate.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Hell yeah, Micro master race. It gives me VSCode feels on the CLI. It’s great ❤️

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I know! Definitely a bad idea 🤣

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I definitely get the small town feel. Like I regularly run into the same users, even from different instances. No one here tries to be a jerk, at least from what I’ve seen. And when you create content, people actually look and care.

[discussion]: regarding the best OS for a pirate

This post started out as a question, but throughout two days of googling it became this compilation of links. I will tell you everything worth mention that I found, share my plan with you, and expect some critics (for the infos of course, please not for the silly hyperactivity of my ADHD brain over such a trivial matter 🥲)....

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve broken either of my Ubuntu desktops. And I’d say 80% of the time, it was my fault. For everything else, there is BTRFS and TimeShift .

According to Steam's terms and conditions can they remove games from your library and are Steam emulators allowed?

This is in reference to a post titled https://leminal.space/post/1113224. The title is kind of self-explanatory and piracy was brought up in the comments. Someone mentioned GOG and Steam granting users indefinite licenses to users regardless of whether or not the game is still being sold....

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I mean, alot of content services suck, but Steam killed game piracy IMHO. 90% off sales and such.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve seen this before. And half the time they just leave a prompt open anyway…

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Running Ubuntu w Mate desktop on laptop and PC. Debian for servers. I need all my weird devices to just work and Ubuntu has the best compatibility. PopOS seems nice, but if I run Mate for me DE, it doesn’t really matter, AFAIK.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Heck yeah, it’s great. Wasabi is nice too, but keep in mind they bill differently for storage vs retrieval.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I do FreeNas at home. How does RockStor work out, seems like OMV.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Eclipse… I used that back in college… In 2003…

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I never got the whole emacs vs vim thing… I’m here to get work done, not wax about editors all day 🤪 JetBrains on a Mac.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Micro for quick CLI edits. VSCode for mashing text and PowerShell JetBrains Suite for everything else. LazyGit is amazing BTW. Pairs well with LazyDocker.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I like the design, but the categories are all wacky, if your in the know about fedi stuffs.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Sure! Maybe move Lemmy.World to general? I know we’re kind of a catch all instance. Other then that, great stuff.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Ah neat!

An admin deleted all my uploads and I have no clue why (lemmy.world)

I have been uploading comic art images by Moebius for several weeks almost daily to the !eurographicnovels community, where I´m a moderator myself. All those images have disappeared. Modlog says the images have been deleted by “admin”. Modlog gives no reason for this but says the images were later restored by “admin”...

@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

There are also custom firmwares you can load on ESP8266s as well, but nothing beats a UL approved solution so you don’t burn your house down 🤪

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

You should also check out Hubitat, they make a excellent ZigBee + Zwave hub. Works with Google Assistant, has a REST API and can work offline as well. They give you a lot for free.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Option 1, KeePassXC plus SyncThing, done. Works amazing on all my devices.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I still got a 3a! It’s definitely on the slow side these days, even with root.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Oh dang that’s neato!

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I mean, who doesn’t use snapshots these days? BTRFS / ZFS has saved me days of grief.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Why not just keep on using Keep? I’ve used a ton of different ones and a I keep on going back to it. It’s simple and just works. Obsidian is also really nice if you need a full notebook.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I’m so damn happy they are. The closest thing I’ve been able to afford is a Dell Latitude 7490. Damn close, even has the mouse nub.

Does anybody know what happened to lemmy.villa-straylight.social?

It was my home to my account. I didn’t catch any announcement it would be going down. 2 weeks ago the website started throwing errors (50* internal server errors) and since a week it is completely unreachable. There are still DNS records resolving the domain, but the site seems completely gone.

We’re trying ❤️ Also we’re growing our infra team as needed. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask or DM me 😎

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Sounds like you need branch protection rules, which you only get on paid plans. Setting up a org is also a good idea anyway if you plan on working as a team of more then 1-2 additional folks.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Just saw this last night, amazing video. Really bitter sweet. Grew up listening to them ❤️

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

lemmy-status.org ? (Disclosure, yes I run it)

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I go off FediDB for my stats. so it needs to be above x users for it to get added. Also TY TY <3

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Veeam is amazing for sure. Used it for years in workloads big and small. “It just works” is their tagline for a reason.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I mean both are great in concept, but man are some folks insufferable to talk to regarding both. Ubuntu, part time vegetarian…

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Just make sure all the bridges are only 7 ft high because fuck poor people right?

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

That hits so fucking hard! 💯💯💯

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

They had amazing keyboards. I could type sooo fast on my curve.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Its kind of funny and interesting, there a few big players in the Fedi, and for the most part, we all try and get along.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Sorry the photo uploaded sideways <3

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

She’s a very sweet girl. Wakes me up every morning and demands attention when I try to go on my phone.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

<3 TY!

I’m the head of infa on LW, but we have a few other managers as well who run different parts of the site. I’m also a site admin as well, for when I help out w/ moderation.

AKA

LW infra = Head of sysadmin team

LW Site Mods = Just a janitor :-P We have other managers, and mods that work under them.

We have infra across many services, but that is kinda of sensitive.

jelloeater85,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I use both ALOT professionally. I can say I prefer Python over PowerShell anyway… Except for Windows automation, where PS is actually pretty dope. Bash is okay, I’ve seen folks write shit in it that should have been done in Python, or GoLang, or literally anything else.

That being said, I won’t go near Rust, not because it’s a bad language feature wise, but my brain hurts when I try and read Rust code.
