jayemar,

After dinner I had ice cream

jayemar,

I always saw Scar from Lion King

jayemar,

I, for one, enjoy said green bean slop, especially with extra fried-to-unrecognizable onion strings

jayemar,

I’m getting some Clarence

jayemar,

Pontiac is a place a bit outside of Detroit. The car company is officially no more.

jayemar,

I understand where you’re coming from, but as a frequent user of vim I’d much rather have the additional line of text.

jayemar,

I understood some of those words

jayemar,

I have a 6a and can’t wait to get rid of it. The cellular connections drops often and doesn’t reconnect without rebooting the phone, the GPS takes forerto figure out where I am making it very frustrating to use for navigation, and the fingerprint sensor doesn’t work great in the dark. Might give the s23 a shot next.

jayemar,

I have tried that, and it does work sometimes. But sometimes it doesn’t and I still need to reboot.

jayemar,

Thanks for this additional info. The “smallness” was something I was after with this phone, as well, but it definitely doesn’t feel as good in my hand as the s23. The pixel pro versions have some intriguing features, but they’re just too big for my liking.

jayemar,

I don’t understand your logic. Why would climate change mean that nothing needs to be fixed?

jayemar,

I mean as one small example we have a lot more renewable energy now than we did a few years ago. So I would say yes.

jayemar,

I’ve always seen the upper peninsula as a rabbit so that took my brain extra long to process, but I’ll now try to view it as a monster eating Wisconsin

jayemar,

I didn’t realize train robber was still an option

jayemar,

I only rated this book 2/5 stars. I don’t remember it much, but now I’m wondering if I somehow missed the point of it.

jayemar,

I’m guessing I didn’t pick up on the deconstruction of colonialism

jayemar,

This is some impressive embroidery!

jayemar,

A friend of mine told me that when he worked at a grocery store as a teenager that he always liked being tasked with rounding up the grocery carts in the parking lot because he got to go outside and be by himself for a bit. I think about that a lot, but I also return my cart.

jayemar,

I’ve been using “Simple Markdown” when I don’t want to fire up Obsidian and it’s filled that gap well for me. It’s the one from William P. Brawner and it’s pretty stylistically neutral so might not fit your Material You vibe, but looks are subjective so who knows.

jayemar,

I really like your first sentence. Great take, thanks for sharing.

Simultaneous device use-case sync question.

I would like to use my laptop for note taking in class, and use an android based e-ink tablet for handwriting and diagrams. What are your recommendations for delivering the tablet’s notes to the vault? Obsidian on the tablet with first party sync looks like a possibility. What about another app that can use SyncThing or...

jayemar,

I use Dropbox to sync between my tablet, phone, and laptop. Dropbox let’s you use three devices for free so I don’t pay anything for this solution and everything is backed up to Dropbox. My phone and tablet are both android devices so I use dropsync to actually do the syncing with Dropbox so that they can be accessed via Obsidian.

jayemar,

Their basic (free) plan only allows you to be signed in to 3 devices at a time. So, for example, if I were signed in on my home computer, work computer, and phone (via the Dropbox app), I wouldn’t be able to sign in on my tablet (via the app). I specify the app because I think you could still sign in via the browser and download files, but you wouldn’t be able to automatically sync files to the tablet.

The Dropbox docs say the basic account only gets 2GB, but when I look at my account it’s showing 3.2GB with 65% so I’m not sure what the actual number is. They kind of bury info about the free tier but you can visit the link below.

jayemar,

This one brings back some memories!

People who don't have any social media *besides Lemmy of course* how do you keep up with the news of your favorite music artists going on tour? (Edited)

I was thinking of creating an anonymous ticketmaster account using public wifi since they block VPNs and just have them email me updates, but they required a phone number for the sign up so I scrapped that idea....

jayemar,

Similar, and I also just checked the bands’ websites on occasion to see if they’re touring

jayemar,

I’ve got that app too and just tried but it didn’t recognize my lemmy instance. It does work with my mastodon and pixelfed accounts.

jayemar,

That is an interesting take. I really like their guitars and the guitar bends, very cool.

I also didn’t know about songwhip.com, that seems like a pretty useful resource.

jayemar,

I’d never even heard of them before I stumbled on this video, but this was a powerful read. Thanks for sharing!

New Pixel 7a user... am I not "getting" it?

I just got a new Pixel 7a a few days ago. I specifically got that one to get the smallest of the bunch. It’s advertised as the smallest (and cheaper) model, phone size comparisons showed it to be indeed smaller than most competing devices and it’s even listed in some “best small phones” lists....

jayemar,

I’ve got the 6a, which I believe is very close to the 7a, and I have to agree that it really doesn’t feel nice in the hand. I broke out old s10e the other day which is similarly sized but feels so much nicer, and I was also at Best Buy the other day checking out the s23 and it also feels much much nicer than the pixel. So my next phone will probably be back to a galaxy.

I have heard good things about the zenfone line for a good smaller phone but haven’t had a chance to use the latest version.

jayemar,

Well now I’m very curious: what country are you in?

jayemar,

Isn’t that essentially the same wrinkle that was mentioned in the article with the Napster reference and the movie and music industries banding together?

jayemar,

This sounds really interesting. Do you have a link for your website, or your Instagram account?

jayemar,

The name is kind of adorable, too, or at least fun to say: northern hairy-nosed wombat

jayemar,

Does this require a rooted phone to install packages in Termux?

jayemar,

I started singing songs from Grease before I understood the meme

jayemar,

If never seen a more bath-friendly creature. Seemed suspicious of the situation, but was fully compliant.

jayemar,

Seems like a good time for me to try out GrapheneOS, if/when this price ever goes live

jayemar,

3 Body Problem and Civ V. I think that could work…
